Steeler vs Ravens and End of Season Thoughts

Im still playing back that one play Saturday night where James was coming around the edge and he took a swipe at Flacco's arm and if not for the last nudge by the Tackle to throw im off just a hair, he either sacks Flacco, forces a fumble or disrupts his read-progression. That one play couldve changed our fortunes..........so ****** close...........

Yep Harrison missed him at least three times. Smh

We will get to see this weekend if the Ravens are as mediocre as many here think.

One more thing. Pouncey and Decastro better hit the buffet and the weight room. I know they are athletic, but I'm tired of seeing them get pushed back by big DL. I don't want them to be draft slobs, but no reason they can't each add 10-15 LBs, get stronger and still be plenty athletic.

Zuttah for the Ravens got pushed back into the pocket a LOT more than our guys. So much so that he tripped Flacco twice for completely lost plays.

The Ravens still found a way to win.

Every player is not perfect every play. Good coaching is anticipating where the failures are going to occur most often and planning ahead to allow successful plays to still happen even when your guys get beat at their anticipated frequency.

Damn I hope not. I hate most every team left. By default, I'll be rooting for the Panthers or Colts (then in this order).

Panthers / Colts
Broncos
Packers
Seahawks
*Patriots
Ravens
Cowboys
I for one hope for a Colts/Panthers Super Bowl
just to piss off the NFL

Look for a NE and SEA/DAL SB. Better storyline, money and hype- per the NFL.

Lol, really? Its the NFL, it will be hyped NO MATTER who the two teams are! Ratings will be huge, revenue will be earned, I promise. The idea that the league office is trying to manipulate certain match-ups is just preposterous, I'm sorry.

My bet is on the *pats and seattle, simply because those 2 look to be the two best teams left in the field, i dont see either team losing at home. Both teams will roll this weekend.

Omar, my post was done tongue and cheek. Maybe I need to add those little smiley faces more. Of course, the SB will get huge ratings and hype regardless who is playing. In their perfect world, the NFL would love to see teams like NE and DAL in the SB and I wasn't suggesting they would have any say who gets there.

I watched the game and it sure looked like the Ratbirds kicked our *** to me.

I grant you that Jar Jar, Archer and Mitchell are complete wastes of space. But Shazier has promise and Moats was actually a nice FA pickup for the money. Heyward, Tuitt, and McCullers are some really nice youth along the Dline with Heyward being a standout. Sharmarko has potential to be a playmaker in the secondary. They need an outside rusher and corner help obviously, but I'm not as down on the D as I once was. When Ike and Troy sat, they played better. I think with a fresh approach to the D, they may have something. I'll look to see what that status of Coach Dad is in the coming weeks. And while Archer was a stupid pick, the best talent on this team clearly is on the offensive side of the ball. Aside from the greatness of Bell and Brown, Wheaton and Bryant should come into their own as well. They just need to come up with a decent 2nd RB. After last season's near playoff miss, I was about where you are now. I feel a bit better about the team this time though.

I may mellow as time passes, but because they did win 11 games, we will see less changes not more. I honestly really feel like they will bring Troy and Dick back and that will be a gut punch to me. So we will have to see. By the way did you notice how much better Dallas D got even though it supposedly lost some of its best players? I would love to see Dick retire and a D that didn't require so much thinking and much more just doing. Troy makes more mistakes than anyone but is never held accountable; all we have is more quotes from Dick about how TP is the most instinctive player he has ever seen, blah, blah, blah. It's time to end that collective nonsense.

Full on *** kicking. Rat birds are built to be big physical maulers on the line tough tacklers in the back field. They were built to beat cowher era steelers. The kinda teams that had Kirkland roaming the middle knocking heads off. Except for Harrison no one on this team scares any one. We need a new direction. I lived and died as a boy growing up in western PA steeler football, chuck noll and everything about that era of football. But it was time for a complete change in direction when the steelers hired cowher. We are at that point now, the direction right now is weak ****** football. I don't think you need to fire everyone, cowhers best players were developed by noll, but it's the direction that really matters. Bring back the violence.

I think with Baltimore's win over us last weekend and their now further advancement in this year's playoff, I would have to argue that Baltimore's record (regular season and playoffs) is better from 2007-2014 than the Steelers 2007-2014.

In my opinion we are 2nd in our division.

This can only be attributed to 3 options:

1. Their GM/roster building is better than ours over this time frame.
2. Their coaching is better than ours over this time frame.
3. Their quarterback is better than ours over this time frame.

Those are really the only three explanations.

I disagree with 3. Put Flacco behind our line vs. their front 7 and he would be the worse QB.

Well, it has to be at least ONE of the three options. Not necessarily all three.

And for all the talk I hear about how much of an advantage Roethlisberger gives us in the division since 2007, the Ravens have scored 2915 points vs. our 2959 points. That's almost exactly the same really.

They fine or flag them every time they hit someone. Of course they don't even tackle correct as it is. It's all arm tackling.Hell even when we can hit guys like running backs we don't. It's pathetic, but the old days of knocking heads off for the most part are gone under today's rules of engagement.

Since '07 Big Ben vs AFC North opponents, regular season:
vs Stains: 13-2
vs Bungholes: 12-4
vs Rats: 7-4

Big Ben in the post season vs AFC North opponents since '07
vs Rats: 2-1

Know when the Rats have had the most post season success? When the Steelers didn't make it there.

Mmmmeh, i just dont see new england NOT having a 14+ point lead on this rat squad by the late 3rd/4th qtr

I think the Ravens have over taken us in the scouting and gm positions

So, before the game the sideline chick asked Tomlin why the rivalry is so heated and the games so close, and he says, "Because we are so much like each other." That maybe used to be true, but it no longer is; the Ravens are still a physical team, first and foremost, and we are clearly not. If you just look how they build their team, physicality is top priority. Us? We draft 212 lb ILB while they take the hammer instead.

Harbaugh is a much better coach than Tomlin and that mismatch permeates the teams.
