Stan Savran just said....

I think Neil wanted to leave. Not where we drafted, no. Hell there weren't many good QBs then to begin with. I'm sure there were ok QBs like Aaron Brooks, but none that were guys that you'd say if he's there you better take him.
I mean we passed on Dak Prescott in 2016 draft, but I'm not going to hold that against Tomlin

I don't know what QB's were taken back then and in what rounds. I just think you might be looking in hindsight on the whole QB issue. I could be wrong. I'm just saying that just because a QB didn't pan out on one team doesn't me they would have flopped with us also. Just like because Ben flourished here he might not of somewhere else. Opportunities are different on every team. Would AB developed into what he has somewhere else? And as far as Neil goes I think he was the perfect QB for Cowher's system. You say he wanted to leave. I honestly don't remember. Why though if it is the case. He was just on a team that was in the SB. I know he signed for huge money(at that time) and don't think we could have match but did we even try to sign him the year before? Or even after. He was a Chuck draft pick. was that an issue? Hell. 99% of the people on this sight were happy when Neil left. LOL

I think Neil wanted out because he was taking a ton of **** for that Super Bowl loss, I was 16 at the time so I could be wrong, and I think what the Jets gave him was a pretty big contract back then

His contract with the Jets back then was huge. Neil went on and made a lot of money on his contracts after he left here.

It was Graham or Ferotte(spelling), they were the only free agent QBs that did anything in the nfl that year, I remember it well, because I thought they both sucked.
Yeah rookie coaches usually do something to make a point even at the expense of the team, remember Tomlin came in and released Porter right away because he was a big personality in that locker room, and then ran 3 a days and wore the team down.

Tomlin didn't release Porter. The front office released Porter because he was in the last year of his contract, and was pissed that the Steelers weren't trying to extend him. The Steelers knew Harrison was ready, and didn't want a pissed off Porter disrupting the chemistry of the team. Under the same circumstances they made Faneca play out his contract, and he had a pissed off attitude all year. The difference was that they didn't have a future star waiting in the wings at his position, so they put with him, knowing he wouldn't be as disruptive as Porter might have been.

They didn't know what they had in Harrison, no one did, they actually drafted Timmons to be the ROLB.

That's fine then you cut Haggans and go with Porter and Harrison

No, I was more up for letting Porter walk in FA, since Harrison played his side. Iittle did I know that Porter will still be killing it in the sack department for another 3 years, but Harrison did get a DPOY in that time!

True but Harrison did play a decent amount of LOLB before that to
