Stan Savran just said....

Post it. Post one article where any player contribute the losses to coaching..

Stan cited two examples today under Cowher of diva behavior. Greg Lloyd refused to play ILB for Cowher. Flat out said no. Hines Ward at one time refused to play in the slot.

Cowher was absolutely a players coach. Problem with Bill is his 3 yards and a cloud of dust offensive game plans. It wasn't until Ben came along that he busted out of the run run pass offense. Even with that we rode the Bus and Parker to SB XL. Ben had a terrible game in the SB but he is the reason the team beat Denver and got up early against Indy and yes outplayed Carson Palmer before he got Kimo'd out of that game.

Could one imagine a Tomlin-coached team with O'Donnell or Stewart at QB?

Bill Cowher to me was a better player's coach, but he also had the ability to pull a player aside when needed during the game. Tomlin isn't as approachable with his dark shades and often just points. Mike's sideline coaching is very limited.

For whatever reason, Cowher seemed more respected by his players. Cowher also was more animated and seemed to motivate his guys / get his guys to focus a bit better, and because of this I think lost less to .500 and below teams.

Cowher was animated and tore into his players.
Tomlin has a more disappointed look on his face when someone messes up.

Romo even said during the Steelers/Bengals game that Tomlin is a real cool guy lol

He probably would win as many SB's with them as Cowher did I'm guessing.

Bubby: "I don't mop up for no one".

It's funny how the same people who ripped "Tombert" for ignoring the secondary, or offensive line, are quick to give Cowher a pass for ignoring the most important position on the team for 12 years. "Cowher didn't have a qb" is the often heard refrain. I have to ask, why didn't he? I don't seem to remember too much effort being made to acquire a quality one before Dan Rooney said "enough"! Somehow I don't think Shawn Andrews would have gotten us Lombardis number 5 and 6.

I have been wishing and hoping we would dive into FA for the past 5 or so years and sign a top CB. Pay the money but hopefully the guy would take care of his side of the field. Never happened. When the rumors swirled we were talking with Haden I wanted to believe but didn't actually believe we would make the move. I know the difference in our D isn't all Haden but he is a big part. Amazing how a quality CB can change what and how you do things.

You think because Tomlin wears shades his players think he's unapproachable during the games? Did you not see him and Ben screaming at each other at the end of the first half? There have been a number of instances where Tomlin has in fact "got in a players face", but lets be 100% honest here. How often is the coach REALLY shown on TV? It's not like they have a camera in the corner of the screen showing the coach the entire game. Unless you are at the game itself, and focus on nothing but Tomlin, anything you say about how he is on the sidelines is just guessing. Also the losses to the .500 and below was actually covered in this thread by another poster.

Erase some of those embarrassing Bear/Jag type losses and you would be amazed how the fans quiet down on every perception...............

Are they embarassing because we expected them to be cakewalks? The Bears just dominated the Panthers with their offense producing pretty much nothing. Their Defense is the real deal. And the Jags are currently tied for first in their division, and are second in the league in point differential at +73, the Rams sit at +74. They've got a solid D, and when their O clicks, they are a tough team. But I know, it's Jacksonville, the pushover of the league for so long it's hard to imagine them actually being a good team. These aren't 0 and teams anymore, even if the Bears currently sit below 500. No one is marking that game down as a win right now.

Maybe you should read what players have said about playing down to the level of mediocre to bad opponents. Its a Tomlin hallmark. Data agrees with me.

We have a team full of diva's in case you aren't following. That did not happen under Cowher to the degree it is happening now. Why is this so?

A team full of diva's, who are they? Brown? He hasn't caused any REAL issues, he flipped a cooler big whoop. Nothing there. Bell? Since signing his deal, he's been the model team mate, and he's been balling his *** off lately... Bryant? Maybe the only one you can actually say there's an issue with. But a team full? I see a lot of hard working guys, sticking together, playing for each other. Especially the defensive side of the ball... so where is this team FULL of diva's?

I often brought that up every time the Tomlin vs Cowher conversations were brought up, always got swept aside as it was too much fact for some people to swallow. Fact is we've been lucky enough to have to THREE coaches in 48 years, and in that time, there have been a hell of a lot more ups than downs.

Lol.....such a tool.

Let's see Diva's during Cowher's era...Leon Searcy, Eric Green, Woodson, Hines did for a time during Kordell's run, Plaxico, Santonio.....

I haven't read one article where there is a negative statement from players to Tomlin. Give us one link.

SO...tomlin sucks. Cowher was to dumb to get a qb. players are arrogant, prim donna ********.

I can honestly say, the 70's was fun. But, watching the Brister led STEELERS was a good time, too. They played their ***** off for a victory. Loved the heart. Actuually exciting games.

Loved Cowher as a coach. Love Tomlin as a coach. The only difference is the era and the players. Either would have the same trouble playing in each others eras. But both are definitely player coaches. Both didn't bullshit, were honest, hard on the players, but fair.

Players want to play here, and we have a great history of winning. Both are doing something right.

I think a simple answer to that is it is a totally different time than it was when Cowher was coaching. There was no social media then, which has certainly increased the divaness.

Good to see you back Diver

True, I do think Cowher was a better overall coach, IMO, but I was glad they took Tomlin over Grimm and Whiz.
It's tough on Tomlin with social media, the fans see and hear everything now. I mean the people bitching about ABs Facebook live thing, which was disrespectful and idiotic, but what did they wanr Tomlin to do bench him for the AFCCG? Same with Bryant, people want him benched, and with juju in protocol, we are suddenly without our #2 and #3 guy.
It's way to hard to compare because of social media

Put me on that boat as well. I wanted outside organization COACH and we got him. We definitely could have done a lot worse. TOMLIN is a pretty good coach with some horseshit traits. Cohwer had his too.!!!!!!

Keep this in mind. The Steelers have had 3 losing seasons since Noll retired. During that same period, the Pirates had 20 in a row. Pitt Football has had 12. The Cleveland Browns have had 3 winning seasons since Noll retired. Just for the record, all of the others have been losing seasons, no .500 seasons among them.

Wait, wait. You think Tomlin wearing shades intimidates players, makes them less likely to approach him? Gimmie a break. That's just ridiculous.

Yes thank you others are seeing the foolishness in the statements Coach makes. Thought i was the only wanting to throw my phone lol

I wonder what he thought of Al Davis, who was the ultimate "cool shades".

Was there any other time where Tomlin took a tough stance towards a player as Bryant. I know Mendenhall he semi benched in a game for fumbles and Rogers he deactivated for miss handled punt. After listening to Bryant's talk with media not sure anything will get his attention.

He released Legarrette Blount.
