Matt Spaeth just agreed to terms for two years. Got alert from Steelers but no dollar amount reported.

No surprise to those of us that follow the Steelers a lot.

Spaeth and Moats. Shoring up spots with their own FAs that they feel offer the most value before making any moves. Keeps them from making desperation moves in FA. Slow and methodical is usually the Steelers way when it comes to FA.

Whoo hoo, out with the old, in with the new....er, wait a minute....

Nah, I'm glad we're signing the likes of Spaeth & Moats, both solid players. Based on Moats' numbers, these look like smart deals to solidify depth....

I know that Spaeth isn't that exciting signing but he does serve a purpose in the Steeler's offense and that is the guy is a damn good blocking TE. You all know that and he's like having an extra OL out there and God knows we need that more often than not. Good signing and Moats too. I think McCain could be next if he doesn't let last season go to his head and ask for too much. They won't overpay McCain and they shouldn't. Blake too. Sign Blake.

You're absolutely correct. Blake and McCain should be next on the signing block...

Speath is a funny case. Correct me if I'm wrong but when they drafted him wasn't he a terrible blocker that they originally wanted to develop into a pass catching TE? I seem to remember that being the case until the pass catching didn't develop and then he goes and transforms himself into a stud blocking TE.

That's funny you say that because I was thinking that earlier today. Memory serves me correctly he was a pretty good receiving TE out of college I think Minnesota Gopher without looking that up. Not too sure about his blocking abilities but most of these guys don't come out of college up to par in blocking at least by Steeler standards that is.

Pretty sure he was a garbage blocker when he first came. I remember people going nuts and saying he got manhandled every play he was in there.

Spaeth won the Mackey award as the best TE in college. He was a great receiver in college. The problem was that he's not that fast so he doesn't separate from NFL coverage. That's why he was available late for a guy with such great college production.

He was not a great blocker out of college but few are these days and The Steelers drafted him with the idea that he had potential to be a very good blocker. That's what he is now. He's no Mark Bruener as a blocker but he's better than most in today's NFL. He can be a reliable receiver too so long as there are enough other weapons that he gets soft coverage.

Im glad they resigned him. Spaeth will be a good 2 TE whether they keep Heath or draft a young receiving TE to develop.

Good depth signing. The guy can block and that is what they need from him.
