Sources: LJ Fort released

So what does Johnson bring that Fort doesn't?

A real head scratcher.

Read the tweet the Steelers sent out that is in that article. Something happened behind the scenes. They don't usually use the word terminated when talking about a player that they have released.

Was it with extreme prejudice?

Someone noted in the comments that there seems to be a guaranteed salary issue associated with Johnson if he plays game 1 and the intention was to go with johnson all along. Haveing fort on the roster for game 1 instead of Johnson saves the team some guaranteed money. No idea of the truth of that.

Yeah the word terminated feels off to me too and makes me think there was some kind of issue. But if it were the guaranteed salary in week 1 thing? That's more than a little shady. If he's your guy, and you feel he's earned the spot, then he's also earned the salary. Why do him, and LJ, like that?

So, Fort made it to the practice squad. Looks like those other 31 teams didn't quite think he was worth the roster spot we had for him either. Welcome back LJ. :)

Joe

They'll probably move Fort up and down on the roster and down to the PS all season. Stuff like this happens all the time

That should make it clear that there wasn't some violation of team or league rules, then.

They obviously wanted to keep both, now that we see Fort added to the PS. And they couldn't have moved Johnson to the PS, hence the chain of events on how/why they happened.

This is true. Steven Johnson is a vested veteran and LJ Fort is not. So if Johnson makes the opening day roster he's guaranteed all 17 paychecks (not week-to-week). Now we have it set up that either/or just get game checks when they are on the team.

I don't like this move at all. Fort is a good ILB, and I'm afraid he'll go to a team like the Pats.

I think Fort is a pretty good cover LB. Maybe our best nickel LB outside of Shazier.

And the sage continues!

Johnson released, Fort resigned.

Stay tuned for the next episode of

As the roster turns!

Yeah, when I saw that, the first thing that jumped into my head was that a poacher was a slinkin' around our PS. Why else would they be playin' this dance of on again off again than to find a way to keep them both.

I think there should just be a 60 man roster, and no practice squad.

Do PS players currently travel with the team?
No just practice with them. As technically they are free agents. As they are free to sign with any team. Unless of course the interested team is on the schedule for a soon to be head to head matchup.

Ok....through the activity that occurred last Sunday, I noticed, but failed to hear anyone mention that Steven Johnson was released and LJ Fort resigned to the 53, Has anyone found anything what is the deal with the musical chairs between the two?

I just took it as someone showed interest in Fort...

Yeah, I knew he had a visit to Detroit....but he wasn't signed. He wasn't signed by Pitt until Saturday
