Was Archer worth the pick?

He needs to learn how to make a guy miss. He is slow and indecisive. In that second clip, why didn't he cut it to the outside? The entire opposite side of the field was open. You follow your blockers to a point but you don't follow them into a pile of opposition players. You must have vision, react and react quickly. He does none of that.

The more I watch that second clip, the more pissed off I get. He ran right into a wall of Bungles. A cut to the opposite side, with his supposed speed, should have had him running down the sideline for a TD or at least a large gain.

It doesnt matter... you are foolish to carry a KO specialist in this day and age... Moreover Archer doesnt have any ability to make people miss or break tackles, and since he bulked up he is clearly slower. He doesnt even run away from guys... The issue is that in this NFL there are very few returnable Kickoffs to begin with, to have a spot for a guy who only does this one job is just insane. Quit defending Archer.. it was a foolish pick for a useless position and to make matters worse he hasnt panned out to anything above average at all. There are a dozen more useful things that spot can be used for... Id rather another high end Special team coverage guy make it over an average kick returner who cannot contribute to the offense

Their whole return games sucks, both kick off and punt. Seems the only time they can block anyone is when it's from behind.

Jeepers, talk about a stretch. Maybe the blocking isn't the absolute perfect, but the returner needs to help. Our returner not only can't see very far, can't set up a block, can't make anyones cousin miss, can't run through a hand tackle, can't ******* kneel it down, you get the drift. Blame all you want but the bottom line is the guy with the ball, NOT making yards. NEXT man up.!!!!!

Yeah, he should have pressed the X button really really hard and he would have made a touch down. Get real dude. The problem is our kick return unit blocks like a bunch of 12 year old gymnasts and Archer or Todman has no place to go.

Tomlin mentioned in his presser "Archer ran where we told him to run". They were getting killed on their blocking schemes. Archer had been doing alright till this game, I'll give him the benefit of the doubt. Can't blame him for running the play that he's instructed to.

I'm not advocating Archer here at all but even when faced with evidence that the blocking is subpar people still won't give the guy any slack. And for those saying he should of hit the sideline instead of following the design of the KO... when a RB or KR/PR deviate from the design of the play that's where you get holding calls because blockers are surprised the run is coming their way.

Give me a break. I know our blocking isn't the greatest but Archer sucks. In that second example, there is absolutely no reason he shouldn't have bounced it to the other side of the field. You DO NOT always head straight to the mass pile of humanity that is the wall of blockers and tacklers. If there is a hole, an opening or an entire side of the field open, you need to have the vision to make that move. Archer makes no moves, none. I defended him early on but he is terrible. He is slow and indecisive. If you can't see that, then you need more than glasses.

Archer is straight garbage. Don't need a 60 page thread on this.

Antonio Brown, sets up blockers. His punt returns or even his open field running, shows that all the time. Archer can't even elude to that aspect. it's a straight line, easy pickings for defenders. No jive, no cut, no incredible speed. Someone mentioned his "Bulking Up", if that is truely the case, and he has slowed down, then his ONLY weapon is failing him, S-P-E-E-D.....Plain and simple, he NOT getting it done.NEXt MAN UP...!!!!

We should just put Jesse James back there. For ***** sake, he was a 5th round pick and can't even get on the active list. During games, he has to stand since he's not allowed to sit on the bench. Someone should point that out, but since he's a Penn State alum, it wouldnt go over too well.

ALSO, I bet he wouldn't go down on a H-A-N-D tackle either.......

of course not, considering he can't even get on the F-I-E-L-D.

I thought Wheaton was pretty decent. At least he has the strength to break a tackle. When Williams needed a breather they went to Brown. Nuff said.

The dude is hot garbage. Returners can't be indecisive. Is the coaching staff telling him to take shots from the back of the end zone? Next.

Sure, the blocking has not been great. But if you look at good kick returners, they make people miss and find the running lanes. Archer can do neither. For ****'s sake, look at old man Sproles and you can see a huge difference.

If you read the comments it says Archer is 10th in average yrds per return and 7th in total return yrds. That is actually pretty decent. I did not fact check, so hopefully they were correct. I thought Archer had decent strength numbers at the combine so i do not think he is a weakling.
People are correct in saying the good returners find lanes and archer may lack vision, but if he is doing what he is told them its hard to fault him.

Spoken like someone who has never played football. This isn't high school this is the NFL and you go north and south not east and west. If he tries to bounce it to the other side of the field on the first example he is tackled by TWO defenders 5+ yards earlier and if by some miracle he escapes them he is tackled about the same yard line by a third. In the second example you are so pissed about there are literally TWO steelers to block FOUR Bengals. Again by following his blocking Archer gave himself the best chance for success. If you look at the first example IF peerman is blocked Archer could run up the middle for a very nice gain. In example two if Peerman is blocked Archer would have been able to follow his blockers who had set up a nice wall for him and again have a nice gain. Instead in both instances he did not receive the blocking needed for this to happen.
