Something to ponder on Lev Bell

As soon as he sign his contract i would try and trade him for the Raiders LB Mack. This has got to be the first time i have seen the Steelers without a playmaker at LB,

I am for rescinding the tag, and rolling with what we have. Take the money an fill a few more positions. Then take the comp 3rd next year.

MT, we lose the comp pick if we rescind the tag. That's why he won't get rescinded.

I'm all for a value trade at this point. Kalil Mack for Lev Bell is a pretty damn good straight up trade.

.

Question... If we were to rescind the tag... how many teams would "right now" be able to meet his contract demands?

I think VERY few. Now... which ones? This could be quite a chess match if he were to sit out.

.

There are 13 teams with the cap room to pay his tag value. Another 11 could pay him doing mild restructuring.

What is Mack's cap hit? I know the Raiders are tight to the ceiling but imagine Mack's salary is involved there. I would love the Bell for Mack trade scenario but we all know there isn't a chance in Hell of that ever happening unfortuneately.

Fist post in thread is really interesting take, Bell is such a headcase who knows, but giving up 9 milly probably not
I am in the camp that trades him for Mack if possible
Lets win some games with defense rather than having to score 30-35 per game, Connor can play in this league

He’s wanting 18 mil/year....don’t likely see that happening. Plus who is he replacing?

My guess would be Mack for Dupree's spot, but Dupree is doing well. Though you get a DPOY and elite pass rusher, so I'd make the trade.

The value for this season is about the same. Both are around $14M, but I think Bell is about $500k more expensive.

Even if it's for 1 year, it might be worth it for a team trying to get another SB needing another impact player on D.

Also for a talent like Mack's, I'd have no problem paying him $16-18M a season. He is that good.

Mack for Bell, I take that all day everyday and especially on SUNDAYS.

Yes please make it happen, you can go RB by committee. And to another question about who spot will he take, i would bench Dupree in a heartbeat, hell Oakland can take him with Bell if they want him.

I'm pretty sure LevMEon Bell reads the MEADIA so I would bet he is on here reading this message board. If he isn't then he has someone who is so as he can get the fan perspective.......His step dad has been here so I'm pretty sure BeLL knows about this place. That said he has said "**** YOU" to us fans in several different ways. PONDER on that for a spell.

Remember there's only about a 50/50 chance that Bell plays in every game. Another reason why he won't be missed as much as people think.

This notion that it's no big deal that the best all around back in the game may not play is comical. There is nobody on this roster who can even come close to what he brings. He helps in every way on offense. He's been a complete *** hat over the contract situation, but we aren't winning squat without him. As for the Mack talk? That's never going to happen.

Did you say that with a smile on your face? Dupree all day long.

Straight trade so you keep Dupree and use him as a relief pitcher. Relief for the tired off the bench. Injury protection for Mack or Watt.

That secondary would look that much better with QBs running for their lives.

Seriously? We all get his pass catching importance. But to think this club can't still win is down right silly. As he departs in free agency you can bring in one and draft one high. (say the second round)

You replace him by RB by committee. And that would give you a high draft pick, JaySam, Conner, and whoever the free agent was.

You might not be as top heavy, but you end up with deeper depth.

Yep, and trade/cut Chickolo.

It's not like we have won anything with Bell. That is for sure.

When they got that back from Carolina their wasn't that big of a drop off, and of course Conner isn't anywhere near good as Bell, that is why you mix in the other back.

Bell is not some sort of RB God. If you project other RBs numbers with the amount of touches bell gets I'm sure Bells numbers would not look so spectacular. Couple that with a not so great YPC and no breakaway speed Bell sits in the middle of the pack.

Go read what James Harrison said today on a sports talk show. The same damn thing I said when I started this thread.
James said if it were him he would hold out until he had to report which is by game 10 so he doesn’t lose the season.
He further added that he’d forgo the big weekly check just to ensure he stays healthy since he knows he will cash in in F/A.
James also said everyone keeps thinking he’s going to show up but wouldn’t bet on it.!
I’m telling you guys, this cat marches to a different drum. I don’t think he shows until later in the season. He even said as much earlier this year.

I guess we will see soon enough. I am at the point I don't even care if he holds out. We will roll with the players we have now.

while we know Bell is exceptional, if he doesn't show up until Week 10 and we're winning with a decent run game, it could cost him.

see, our OL isn't the same as it was when we had guys off the street. We have one of the top 5 OLs in the game. As such, if Conner can run in "real" games as he's been doing, and Samuels can do a decent job as a backup ...Bell may get the treatment that he's a "product of the system". It's unlikely, but it is possible. Were that to happen, it may cost his *** some cash. Also, consider if he doesnt show up until Week 10, his first game back may be against Jacksonville. Not a good first outing for him, considering he won't be in football shape. In shape, no doubt. Football shape, no. Then, Broncos, Chargers and Raiders. He'll be trying to get into football shape during the teeth of our schedule.

If he doesn't show up until week 10 and our current guys are doing good / wining, well, do you even play BELL??? Paying him the final 7 games 900K /game = 6.3mil, is our comp pick for his departure worth the 6.3mil?? Maybe at that time just CUt him from the roster. Just another aspect of him showing up sooner than later.

I at no point just pull the tag. If he shows up week 10 by that point in sure he would be regulated to a back up roll possibly depending how the others preform. You then carry him and give him his touches. At sone point he will be ready to roll with a full work load.
