So for the most part we all think Bell shows up the week before the 1st regular season game. After all, that’s exactly what happened last season. Even the opponent is the same and did I mention that the game is even going to be played in Cleveland? So logical conclusion would be to expect Lev Bell to repeat the same steps as year last.

Wait one minute though. Last season Lev Bell thought he’d have another shot at a new contract and probably felt confidant that they would get something done. He even said as much in the off season. He knew he would get tagged again if by chance there would be no new contract.

Now the mindset in his camp and across the NFL is that 2018 is the last season in black n gold.
Consider now that there has been no reported contact made between Bell and the Steelers brass and no even with the players according to Pouncey which he said is different from last season.

So what if Bell who I believe has until game 10 to report decides to challenge the Steelers here? Possibly thinking of forcing the team to rescind the tag thus making him an unrestricted free agent able to sign with whomever and for whatever he desires.
Bell cashes in a season early and sticks it to the Steelers.

What’s the worst that can happen? The team calls his bluff and keeps the tag and he reports for game 10. Yeah what about the money he gives up? He does leave around 8 million on the table but with 7 games in uniform he still brings down close to 7 million. It’s not like this cat’s going to be on unemployment. He made12.5 million last year.
This way he comes in game 10, reduces about 250 touches he normally would have had, reduced risk of injury by 9 games missed, and feels like he’s stuck it to the team and he wins after all. This from a guy whose mindset is me first then the team.

I think this is a possibility and would not be surprised at all.

The NFL owners need to get together as employers and stop these types of employees by letting them hit the road and apply on line as every other Monday to Friday employee

Anything is possible with Bell. He is a few bricks shy of a load. Last season his agents thought the deal was done and he backed out. He could do anything here. I'd keep the tag on him for at least a few games if he held out. See what Conner and hopefully Samuels (hope he makes the team - anyone but Fitz) does and then cut his ***. If he pulled this kind of stunt, he would be a cancer for the team.

If he sits out half the year we are screwed, but if I was him that's what I would do, he knows we will run the wheels off him.

I'm pretty sure the next CBA is going to have a lot of changes. A LOT! I'd pretty much figure we're going to lose an entire season over it

If Bell sits this year(week 10) he might as well have signed the deal we offered. To recoup the money he would lose he would have to sign in the $17 mill a year plus range to break even. Let's be honest...it has always been about money for Bell. Nope. He plays week one. Unless he is a complete idiot.

Well, just to be different from everyone else. I'll say he reports to the Steelers on Tues. that way there is no chance they play him on Thur. and will have a little longer then last year to get ready for the season opener.

Bell isn't stupid. He will sign 9/3. I will put money on it.

There is no break the bank FA money if he tries to get signed during this season. The big money is AFTER this season. He will get a contract close to what the Steelers offered this year, so that is not happening.

The best would be if he held out till week 10, and the steelers suspend him for conduct detrimental to the team for 4 weeks, then he's a Steeler again next year because he did not acrue a season this year. That is why he would never hold out this year.

Bell will show up and get hurt.

I believe Cope if he reports by week 10 the season would count. I believe he has up until that week.
Plus I don’t agree that if the tag is rescinded there wouldn’t be money from someone like the Jets or Colts. The Jets would be all over him. They have plenty of cap and are one of those franchises not afraid to show the cash.

Very interesting. I think if Bell wanted security, he would have signed with us long ago.

Agree, Bell isn't going to sit out and not get paid. I rather suspect his lifestyle wouldn't handle missing 10 weeks of paychecks. He should realize that the better a season he has the bigger his next contract will be. Of course I thought the same thing about Mike Wallace several years ago but he tanked his last season and still got paid by Miami although not as much as he might have made with better stats in his FA year.

Do honestly believe he is going to sit out for 10 weeks at a loss of $900,000 per game?

Dude is playing.. the biggest conundrum, do you heavily lean on him, or find a way to make your offense more diverse? He ain't here next year.

Refund the tag and offer Mack some money.

What ever he produces this year I will cheer for what he brings to the team. As an individual, and that's all he is about, I won't give a rats ***.

I am for rescinding the tag, and rolling with what we have. Take the money an fill a few more positions. Then take the comp 3rd next year.

If we pull the tag we won't any comp pick.

as it stands right now do we have the money for bell?

If you're asking for the franchise tag then YES but if you are asking for a long term contract, the not just no but H-E-L-L no would apply !!!!!

Salute the nation

.

Question... If we were to rescind the tag... how many teams would "right now" be able to meet his contract demands?

I think VERY few. Now... which ones? This could be quite a chess match if he were to sit out.
