So would you activate Coates or Ayers/Hamilton?

I would sit Hamilton. Coates still contributes on special teams so I don't think he'll be inactive if his hammy is OK. But I don't see Coates getting snaps on offense...DHB can stretch the field and will fight for the ball.

I just don't know what's going on with Coates. He seems unwilling to fight for the ball, he doesn't attack at the highest point, he's got 1 route it seems and if the ball doesn't fall precisely where he needs it to be it's pretty much a wasted throw. I'm sad cause I wanted him to be special, but he's just not doing it.
That's got the signs of a player that is trying to protect his injury.if he doesn't have hand strength or confidence it won't hurt when he catches the ball, he's going to hesitate and that leads to drops. Between that and his hamstring, he's not 100%. Let him watch and be on stand by and if he gets healthy he will contribute.

I agree but I would like to give him another shot. When he was healthy I recall he dropped several easy passes before he got hurt. Maybe it was nerves, etc... Time will tell.

In the Brown's game, I saw DHB go over the top of the defender twice. That's what I'm talking about !!! LoL. Coates seems to not want anything to do with that kind of play. I thought DHB was very agressive in his attack on the ball. Simply put, DHB is a better receiver than Coates is at this stage.

Salute the nation

I don't even need to see everyone else's opinion - I just read Coolie's first post, in this thread---personally, I'd DEACTIVATE Coates and give the hats to BOTH Ayers and Hamilton. Hey-Bey can do everything that Coates has been doing - EVERYTHING...

Hmmm? A "Roll Tide" guy calling for the benching of Coates??

What a nice problem to have...and all of this doesn't even account for Bryant's spot next year (if he's still on the team). There's going to be a really tough battle for playing time next season with everyone healthy...

That shot won't make him go get the ball either

Why would you dress a guy that needs hands and legs that aren't 100%? It's the sffO yalP for crissakes, besides it's not like Hamilton and Ayers haven't answered when their numbers have been called. Isn't Miami having to field backup LB's or Safeties? Young players either get better or sheet the bed with playing time. Ayers looked good in the Rats game and pretty good against the Browns.
This doesn't even sound like a difficult choice IMHO.

Ayers had six receptions and a touchdown against the Browns and Hamilton had four receptions, including the winning 26-yard touchdown reception in overtime.

Run what ya brung ..... sit Coates and go with Ayers and Hamilton.

If Rogers is healthy, I go with Hamilton first. If Rogers if dinged up, I'll risk Ayers first. Coates has regressed and is hurt.

Everyone seems to be overlooking the importance of special teams, which have been a problem area for us all year. In terms of determining who is active on gameday, special teams ability is much more important than how much a player might bring to the offense as the 4th or 5th option at WR (AB, DHB & Rogers are the top 3). Neither Hamilton nor Ayers is able to act as a gunner on special teams. That's why a healthy Coates (talking about hamstring, not fingers) will have priority.

It's also possible that all 6 will be active. If guys like Golden, Ricardo Matthews, Justin Gilbert and Chickillo aren't healthy enough to play on Sunday, you could dress all 6 WRs.

Hamilton has a bigger frame at 6'2 212lbs and speed over Ayers 5'11" 190 ...one runs a 4.5 the other a 4.7. Ayers has bigger hands...but I think you sit Coates...

Ayers does not run a 4.7....that was with an injured hand and he had a poor showing at the combine....

Ayres wasn't running 4.7s last game, otherwise, the Browns DBs would have been able to keep up with him on his crosses. They couldn't...

I'm not ready to give up on Coates. The thing with him is that he brings a dimension that none of our other WRs do, when he's healthy. If he can show he can get deep and catch the ball with regularity in practice, then he gets a hat. I think Ayers gets a hat regardless because his confidence is sky high right now and he is looking very "young AB"-like. If Coates isn't showing much in practice, then give Hamilton his hat but I'd rather give Sammie every opportunity to show what he's got first

With DHB back and his speed over the top along with Cobi being a big body and Ayers who just gets open, I see no reason Coates gets a hat over any of those three. And, come next year, Coates will probably be fighting for a roster spot if Bryant is back.

lulz how many times do we have to discuss this. Why aren't fans getting it? Ayers is not a 4.7 WR

I'm excited about Ayers' future too, but this is silly. Ayers provides nothing at WR that Eli Rogers doesn't bring and he provides nothing on special teams. Coates is still our primary option as a kick returner and will be needed as a gunner on special teams. Golden, Chickillo & Vince Williams may miss this game with injuries --- we're going to be very thin on special teams.

Ayers plays any of the receiver spots while Eli is just a slot guy. Coates does provide special teams work, but so does Heyward-Bey. If you activate Coates do you sit Ayers or Hamilton?
