If you measure 2016 by not winning the SB then we failed. Now on the other hand making the playoffs and reaching the conference title game was accomplished so you could say it was a successful season from that perspective. I suppose you could apply the half full/empty concept here.

My question is simply stated; do we make coaching changes and who might these changes affect?

First of all lets get this out of the way. Tomlin is going nowhere so we can dispense with that topic. Now, does Butler get replaced after a few years on the job or maybe the ST coach where we've not exactly had much success.
Haley, I think would be a tough call since he and Ben have established a rapport and I don't think they want to disrupt that or piss Ben off.

What about Carnell Lake who I think did a nice job with the young CB and Safety but could he be the sacrificial lamb? Or Joey Porter aside from his off field issues what has he really brought to the table?

I think Danny Smith is gone. I'd love to see Steelers try to lure Whisenhunt back, Haley is decent but just not consistent with his game plans. With the current state of our running game, it would be like Ben's first few years with Whisenhunt at OC. He gave Ben great plans and quick routes... now would Ben still take his shots on 3rd and 1 from our own 30? Most likely but I think Whiz had a great combination of pass and run, mix in a couple great timed trick plays.

I doubt either happens but I'd be okay with either or both of Haley and Butler, and their staffs, replaced

Im not done with the emotion over the loss---its not been 48 hrs.

Here's where I am currently:

Haley-- I don't replace him....YET. Unless you can find an innovative, offensive mind like Norv Turner or Tom Clements (Green Bay). Todd is still rated top 5 in all of the NFL as for OCs.
Norv is available right now.

Butler -- Id lean more moving him than Todd. He's a clone of LeBeau using that same philosophy employed by Dick, which Tom devours. If I make a move Id go Romeo Crennel or Wade Phillips....

Or Willie Gay, he was running about a 4.9 forty last night. He's done.

I am beyond tired of seeing Gay out there trotting around. So many have said how well he's played the last two years but I just don't see it. Everytime he's locked onto someone, odds are thag guys making the catch, and gaining more yardage cause he has no wheels. It's time for him to move on.

All coaches stay.
Jarvis gone.
Gay replaced.
We need to start drafting players to beat the Pats also. I believe we have drafted for years to try and win our division.
Green let go unless 100% cleared by specialist.
Wheaton gone.

Regarding Green, I am anything other than confident that he wants to play another down. His 5-million is safely in hand and if he returns it will be firmly imbedded in the protocol for as long as possible!

What a dismal and damaging signing at least to date. We bought broken goods with no return feature!

I know I will get flamed for this but.....

Keep in mind that I was screaming for us to draft Bell a year before he even entered the draft, I am MI State fan and love Bell but.....How do you give big money to a player that can't stay on the field?

Brown.. He was starting to become a Diva when it was the whole five catches for fifty yards streak, and it seems to have gotten worse, anyone remember throwing the ball to Brown at the end of a game when all we had to do was run out the clock just so he could keep that streak alive, but in the same season when Ben needed just one ******* yard at the end of the game in the same situation to out right be the passing leader that season and not share it with Breese we took three knees? Brown would of had a **** fit if they had done that to him, Ben however just took it in stride.

So for me with as deep as the running backs are in this draft, and what we have with Bryant coming back, I tag both Brown and Bell and see if I can get some first round picks for them.

If you end up with three first and two second round picks (counting ours) you could package them and get two top 10 picks, take a stud pass rusher, and wideout in the first and nab a great RB in the second, and not have the salary cap headache you're gonna have trying to keep Bell and Brown.

Flame away

no flames you just don't trade away strengths

you get rid of weaknesses

I want to get back to having a dominate defense with physical players. That's Steelers football. We're on our way to getting back to that point but I'm not totally opposed to keeping some of that money we would spend on those two and put it into defense and retool our RBs and WRs. I think AB and Lev are awesome, great players but I've always believed RBs are only as good as an OL and WRs are only as good as a QB. I've seen Ben win SBs with never having a true #1 WR and never a dominate RB, hell he's won without even having a good OL... but I've never seen Ben win a SB without a dominate defense.

I want that take no ****, physical defense back. Just make sure we have the DC to utilize it too.

Coates looked so dreadful last few weeks, I'd cut his ***.

Danny Smith, but given an appearance in the conference title game, I doubt they make any changes.

I'd Fire Butler and hire Wade Phillips as our DC in a heartbeat!

As for the players...Jarvis Jones has gotta go. Sammie Coates has shown me nothing in the last two months.....I guess the question is how F'ed up are his hands & fingers? Does he need surgery? I personally think he's expendable with Bryant coming back and the emergence of Hamilton & Ayers.
Timmons I'd bring back for a couple years....he had a great year for us and maybe he starts adopting some of Deebo's career stretching techniques to help take care of his body.
Gay I think is u nder contract and I am ok bringing him back for another year or two til we see what we have in Golson

It's not so much drafting players as much as its drafting a new defensive modus operandi, so to speak. Our 3-4 zone cover 2/3 **** is absolutely worthless against a team like New England. We might as well go back to 4-3 with the linemen we have.

Tomlin needs to go.

He should have given the directive to go man coverage before the game while preparing for the Cheatriots. As an in game decision he should have given a directive to switch to man about halfway through the first quarter. Mr. Tomlin is not going to get us back to a Super Bowl.

Depends on who is available to trade. I'd try to trade to someone in the AFC East - other than that team - just to make it more competitive. Bell and Brown both hurt this team this year and if we lose a draft pick because Bell didn't disclose an injury that's two strikes this year alone.

Coaches: Defense - Butler; possibly Peezy and Lake.
Special Teams - Smith

Players: Green, Big Dan, Gay. Probably Coates after training camp. However, it's not because I'm hanging my hat on the big hook labeled "Martavis Bryant" since there's no guarantee that 1) He's going to get reinstated and 2) He's going to stay clean.

Gay and Brown are under contract next year.

Brown has been promised an extension. I don't think filming a locker room will stop him from getting it.

Bell will be resigned. He's a top RB, Receiver, and Blitz Pickup man. You keep this kid

Timmons, I was all for getting rid of him, for salary cap reasons. He doesn't want to leave Pit, and I believe he will stay. It will be interesting to see how little he plays for. I was thinking keep him at $3-4M a season, but then he goes out and has a pro bowl season. It will be between $5-8M now. 2-3 year deal. I would like to keep him.

Cockrell is URFA, I'd like to keep him. Xavier Grimble is as well. He can be retained cheaply.

Green = cut...for his own good. The guy is frail and takes 6-8 weeks to get back from each concussion. Not to mention he took the entire offseason and 6 more weeks just to play.
Gay = getting old...gone
Jarvis = is this even a question?
Shamarko = not coming back
Timmons = comes back for 4-5 mil per year
Cockrell = bring him back for 1 year. we draft a CB in rd 1 or 2 that takes his place.

Danny Smith might be gone. All other coaches are good to go. I'll bet Mann retires.

If we could get a top-15 pick for AB, I would do it. While he is a fantastic WR, he is going to ask for tons of money...money that could be used to fix some issues on the defensive side AND get playmakers. Now, if AB is willing to take a REASONABLE contract offer, I keep him.

Draft Needs = OLB, CB (man to man guy), TE and maybe ILB/WR
