So this is what I'm interested in discovering...

Ben is my favorite player overall this run of 16 years or whatever, though he has been a little trying particularly at the beginning part before he grew up. Its just time. Last night was ugly, it could get real hideous. He isn't going out on top, you don't want to see rock bottom. And this team needs to REBUILD.
It's soon either this off-season or the next. But Ben will dictate which one.

I watched all the postgame stuff and Heyward and Watt were straight pissed off, rightfully so.

I assume the facility is closed due to Covid and nobody is getting **** done unless via zoom.

Clevelands facilty was closed all week.. They had zoom practices. Their head coach wasnt at the stadium yesterday..... Steelers made them look like the Joe Montana 49'rs. We can blame execution ,, we can blame bens picks.

But Our offense did well because browns were playing prevent. Our defense couldnt stop the browns.

Ben was crying on the bench with Pouncey next to him. Both men know they can be cut, and their careers are near the end.

On Ben, he needs a private meeting with Art Rooney II alone. He's not close to worth 41 million next year. No way. If I were Art I'd tell him re-do your deal with 25 million next year and we'll stick with you one more season. Otherwise your going to be cut and the team will save 19 million on the cap. Being realistic, no other team is going to pay a 39 year old QB 25 million, so please let me know if you want to come back and play football for us under this terms. .

Please think about it, and keep the media out.

Ben isn't stupid. He knows we had a cake schedule and next years schedule will be much tougher. Plus free agency can and will take away Ju-Ju, Big Al, and Feiler. And the team is in negative cap space.

Hahahaha..... cut Ben.

Yes folks, he said it. Cut Ben and have a 23 million cap hit. Mods may want to sticky this one.

OutCoached, a legend in his own mind.

only two things can be done with the amortized bonuses (I. e., the 22m cap hit) and both are problematic. one is to cut Ben and designate as post June 1 cut. this would allow them to spread the hit across 21 and 22. so, 11m each of two years of dead money. the second option is to restructure and extend his contract. you then spread the money out over the term of that deal. of course, Ben has to want to and he won't come free. he would expect another signing bonus which adds more amortized monies to what is already out. in short, you are kicking the can down the road again while hoping his level of play won't fall off further. the 22m in previously paid bonuses has to hit the books during his contract eventually. the 19m in salart and roster bonus due March 1 is the only thing that can be removed. for that, he has to retire or be cut.

I can't see Ben retiring like this, yes he played a large part in the fiasco, but it was clearly a team effort, top to bottom.

The fact that he's taken the loss entirely on his shoulders shows leadership and the team player that he is. I hope he still feels like he has something to prove, that will only happen if the ball and chain, keystone cops coaching staff fades away.

Ben isn't done. He needs some help around but he's absolutely good enough to get back to the SB.

Defense needs to start showing up in the playoffs.

There's no way Ben gets cut. They simply won't do it.

The team simply cannot afford Ben for another season. This was it. He is going to cost $41 million cap space unless cut or "renegotiated," and as Hoot pointed out, if you think you are going to renegotiate his contract, get ready to pay him MORE money. Doing that puts the team in absolute cap hell.

Further, a renegotiated contract would probably work this way. Ben due just $4 million base salary, so the team would have to add a year to the contract, turn the $12 million signing bonus, the $15 million renegotiated roster bonus and the $9.75 restructure payment into something paid over the next two seasons. The team would have to pay him another $12 million or so in bonus (less than he received for 2020 but whatever), meaning the amount owed over the next two seasons would be something like this:

  • 2021 - $1,500,000 base salary, $15 million roster bonus, $12.5 million signing bonus, total cap hit $29 million
  • 2022 - $4 million base salary that can be saved, $16 million roster bonus, $12.5 million signing bonus, "dead money" of $28.5 million

No thanks. Sorry, Tomlin and the front office went "all in" this season and crapped out. Time to go back to work to pay off the bills.
