One assumes that Ben probably will have a conversation with the team today or tomorrow and he may well be considering retiring.

When Bettis had that crushing season end against the cheats, Ben went to him immediately and said "if you come back I will get you to the Superbowl." Joe Namath bold, but hey, he did it. Hines Ward came out to the media with tears in his eyes because he felt that he personally had let Bettis down and was devastated that Jerome's career should end like that.

I want to see if anyone on that team is "family" enough to come out and say "We let Ben down." True, Ben wasn't all-pro this year, but given the ****-show the Steelers became after week 5 or 6, what was he supposed to do? I wonder if any of the young guys are telling Ben, "Come back and I will get you to the SuperBowl!"

I'm betting no.

Maybe Heyward?..

I would actually expect Pouncey to say or do something along those lines. I understand they are close.

I highly doubt you will get a JuJu or a DJ stepping up in that regard sand I'm pretty sure Heyward is to experienced to think that. I'm guessing it will be Tomlin backed up by Fichtner and it's because they know their careers are sealed with the fate of what BEN decides on his own career.

Lolz.

Can you imagine Mike Tomlin trying to say with a straight face, "Ben, if you come back I will get you to a Superbowl!"

My bet, he's looking at his shoes by the time he says "Ben,"

Attitude reflects leadership, can't even get Tomlin to take responsibility.

The obsurdity would floor me. I meant it more as sarcasm as there is no one on the team that will step forward in that regards. EVERY player knows it would be a false statement that they know would never fruitate.

ALSO

When you add in the new generation T'ude you get the ones who think it's BEN's problem and NOT theirs.

I have no idea what Ben will do and I am not sure he does either. Dale at DKPS suggested MP is the one who may well retire. I could see them both decide to ride off in the sunset together. I could also see DD going with them. If we install a new OC, that could well be the final straw for Ben.

We won't install a new offense with Tomlin here, not saying Ben should stay or go, but it's Tomlins way or no way.

I think when Ben goes Colbert goes. Both might leave this off-season. If not you can pencil in next year.
I would be just fine with replacing HCMT. I doubt it will happen. You know who else might hang it up? Colbert.

I think Ben will wait a few days until all the emotion subsides some from last night, and as he stated, pray on it, talk with his wife, probably speak with Pouncey and weigh all of that. I'm betting he comes back for one final year with an extension of one year on his contract to spread the cap hit, but I think 2021 will be his swan song. He does not want to go out like this on the losing end throwing four int's. But that means Randy comes back too as well I believe because Ben will not want to learn a new offense under a new coordinator just to play one season.

What they have to do is build up that OL, draft a RB high, use Watt consistently as a FB and try and balance out that offense. You do not want your 39 year old QB throwing 50 plus passes per game. Ben to also take much more snaps under center and re-establish play action passes.

I'd say if Ben came back his stipulation ought to be, "Randy, we're running the no-huddle, muddle huddle all ******* year." You can make some feeble attempts to come up with a game plan each week that I will likely ignore. Still, you get to keep your job and then, if I have to say "I need to play better" at least that will be God's honest truth.

I like Colbert better than Tomlin and think he could be part of a rebuild if he was so inclined, but he can't commit, so he has to go.

It's not legit to parallel these two situations too closely. Bettis had a great team and a good coaching staff to come back to. Ben, not so much.

Yep. Bill Cowher went 34-14 regular season, 5-1 playoffs, and a Super Bowl with Roethlisberger at QB. The 2004 Steelers had a bunch of leaders - Troy, Ward, Farrior, Bettis, Kiesel, Smith, Faneca. And a coach who won playoff games with Mike Tomczak, Kordell Stewart, and Neil O'Donnell at QB.

Those teams could chip diamonds. The Tomlin-led teams are soft as Twinkies, without the nutrition.

Ben or no Ben, we need an offensive line that will suite the QB behind it. If it’s these same guys, then we need an o-line coach to figure out how to get more from them. This line cannot pass block or run block well enough right now for a clean pocket passer for more that 2 seconds.

Ben was crying on the bench with Pouncey next to him. Both men know they can be cut, and their careers are near the end.

On Ben, he needs a private meeting with Art Rooney II alone. He's not close to worth 41 million next year. No way. If I were Art I'd tell him re-do your deal with 25 million next year and we'll stick with you one more season. Otherwise your going to be cut and the team will save 19 million on the cap. Being realistic, no other team is going to pay a 39 year old QB 25 million, so please let me know if you want to come back and play football for us under this terms. .

Please think about it, and keep the media out.

Ben isn't stupid. He knows we had a cake schedule and next years schedule will be much tougher. Plus free agency can and will take away Ju-Ju, Big Al, and Feiler. And the team is in negative cap space.

JuJu might. Bud is gone. I've moved on from that as everyone should. I hope they can sign JuJu and Watt. Hilton and/or Sutton will be offered more money than we can offer them. They have both shown enough to get a decent payday.. Pouncey (per another post) may have said he is done but that was in the heat of the moment of a crushing loss so we shall see. But, neither he or DeCastro are safe from being traded or cut to save cap space. Neither are close to their all-pro past. I easily see a FA OL and 2 OL drafted along with a RB. If Najee or Etienne are there in 1, I take them and then go best OL available in 2 and either 3 or 4. This team will look a lot different next year. No one is safe since we were up against the cap before the $20 million reduction.

And, as I mentioned in another post, we may be looking at 2 years of reduced or flat caps. If that happens, we will be lucky to keep Minkah next year. We need to have a couple more good draft classes like it appears we did this year. And, we will have to let the young guys start early on.

There's no way Ben gets cut. They simply won't do it. If it comes to that they'll talk to him and ask him to retire or "request a trade".

They basically did the same thing with Troy, but Troy pretty much refused to walk away. It got a bit ugly as a result.

No one will step up we have lost any leadership on this team. Ben continued to take the blame every time things went bad. I did hear Heyward put it on him for the lack of defense last night. Would anyone be surprised Tomlin would be happy Ben retired.

I assume the facility is closed due to Covid and nobody is getting **** done unless via zoom.

and he did again. If you watch the video Justin put up Ben tells MP he's sorry. Ben once again taking the blame for everything that went wrong. HE'S telling Pouncey he's sorry he let him down.

Love me some Ben.

Ben is my favorite player overall this run of 16 years or whatever, though he has been a little trying particularly at the beginning part before he grew up. Its just time. Last night was ugly, it could get real hideous. He isn't going out on top, you don't want to see rock bottom. And this team needs to REBUILD.
