So the *Pats were cheating, but just not 'technically cheating'?

NFL bans Patriots’ ineligible receiver ploy

The trick play the Patriots used against the Ravens in the playoffs will no longer be legal under an NFL rule adopted today.

The league has made it illegal for an offensive player with an eligible receiver’s jersey number (1-49 and 80-89) to report as an ineligible player and line up outside the tackle box. That means the play on which Patriots running back Shane Vereen lined up as an ineligible receiver in the slot would now be a penalty.

It was a crafty ploy by Patriots coach Bill Belichick and his staff to come up with that play, and it clearly caught the Ravens off guard. Baltimore coach John Harbaugh was so upset about the play that he got a penalty for yelling at the officials about it. A week later, the Patriots also caught the Colts off guard by playing tricks with eligible receivers.

But those tricks are coming to an end after a vote of the owners today.

Cheaters win in the NFL! As long as the machine keeps making that $$$$. It's all good.

maybe i'm on the minority but if it wasn't illegal , they made a great call .

if I was mod I'd ban anyone starting another ******* Pats thread around here

they did enough illegal to not care on the borderline stuff

thing is as tired as I am seeing pats threads

I am equally tired of the NFL letting them get away with just about anything they can think of

that day that coach leaves the NFL I am one happy fan

The pats cheating is like people breathing air it's all good to goodell. I really hope he gets run over by a truck

...in related news, the league is now checking everyone's balls. Michael Sams is to be named head ball checker. He is to handle the leagues balls to check for under inflation....too soon??

It wasn't cheating, and the Pats were smart to exploit a seldom used tactic.

Now the ball issue is flat out cheating, and they should be docked high draft picks (since they are now repeat offenders).

I knew when he declared for the draft he would end up in the head office with those other cocksuckers.

Kinda like NASCAR. If the rulebook doesn't say you can't do something, then it must be okay to do it. If you do it and it works, then very soon there will be a rule against it.

Patriots: "Our motto around here..........Whatever it takes man.....WHATEVER it takes....Do it, WIN and let em figure it out down the road"

And, still crickets when it comes to the cheating and deflating the footballs.

All Cheatriots fans will then say the same thing about the Steelers. We cheated before it was "technically cheating" with steroid use. Although, steroid use was a personal decision and not a team thing.

And it was used as a recovery aid from injury then, before it was abused as a performance enhancer.

Well, that's because it's all they've got. They were caught taping signals after it was made illegal AND after they were caught once and told a second time to stop. Apples and oranges.

Somehow I wish that was Tomlin's motto instead of "Obviously we will turn over stones back at the lab to find the next man up obviously and have the men play the game of football with splash plays and situational football if you will and the rest is all popcorn. Obviously."
