So listening to the sports talk on the upcoming NE game.

Why are you getting on Ed? He's not wrong.

What I don't get about the defense is not just that you're putting two DL on the field, but you are keeping your weakest positional group on the field. Good coaches will adjust their scheme to fit their personnel. The Steelers have three very talented defensive linemen and good depth. You can adjust your defensive package and put Watt, Dupree, or Chickillo on the end. Instead, they leave their group of journeymen ILBs on the field and take their more talented players off it.

Ed’s seems to be one of the media heads in Pittsburgh always afraid to criticize Tomlin.

It's not his job. He's a reporter, not a columnist.

Some reporters ask "tough" questions...................does Ed???

Maybe he is scared of TOMLIN revolking his press credentials or something of that nature.

Salute the nation

Here is the deal. The *'s have scored 27+ in 7 of their games this year and did it 9 times last year. The other games, under 27, this year were 25, 20 and 10 twice.

Presumably, all of the other teams are trying different defenses against the *'s and, it just doesn't "work" the majority of the time. We all know why.

Seems like the best D we ever played against them (similar to what BLT was doing to KC near the end of the game) is when we had 9-10 guys at the LoS with 1-2 back a bit. Most of them were standing so that Marsha couldn't, really, tell who was going to be in coverage or not. I figure, if you are going to get burned in coverage when you only rush 3 or 4 (and we will), might as well rush 5-6 every time and get a few hits on the QB.

Whether someone stops Gronk from getting 3-4TD's is irrelevant if Joe Blow RB is getting 3-4 TD's instead.

Go into the game expecting that the *'s are going to score 27-33 points. Hold them to that and your D has done an OK job. If your offense cannot score 27+ against the *'s, you ain't gonna win no matter what your D does.

The Patriots team total opened at 26.5. It now stands at 27, and barring some late change in the weather forecast for Sunday, I expect that number to rise by kickoff.

I suggest everyone do themselves a favor: Load the boat on NE over 27, sit back, and enjoy Christmas a week or so early. This way, you don't have to bet directly against the Steelers (maybe it'll be a shootout!), but you can still benefit from the inevitable.

I think yur totally wrong about the DL they are average at best, weaken easily and totally disappear in the 4th qtr when games are decided. Teams are gashing us with the runs up the gut in the second half of games that they cant stop. They are soft and weak, just like the LBs.

Cut them all and hire waiver wire scrubs, they are all vastly overrated and overpaid. All of them

Ed’s bad... he’s even worse when it comes to defending butler... hey they are all pals been working togethe4 along time and truth is that’s the problem! We need new blood we need to get back to th3 basics. We need a Paradym shift. We need to build schemes bases on what teams are doing now. We just keep repeating the pass as if it’s still 1999. If you think this defense stinks now wait another year with Jackson, mayfield, rpo’s up the ***... and we’re defending them with fort, Bostic, dirty red, Vince Williams, Dupree, possible, hell not possibly, they are, the worse linebackers the Steelers have fielded together since 1968!

Just blow up the D.
Start from scratch. Cancel all contracts except Watt and Heyward.

Ed has been highly critical the past several weeks of the team. He hasn’t been blowing his fanboy trumpet. This is probably being allowed from upstairs in the Rooney office.

I've been crying about our 2 DL scheme for years now. I finally think I gave up and now can't stop banging my head off the wall about us covering a teams best WR (or any WR for that matter) with a damn OLB. As long as Tomlin feels operating with those 2 schemes is OK, this D will never improve.

The crazy thing is we run 2DL on short yardage and goal line situations too.

2 DL do not a Defensive Line make.

The two DL we have a good - but to make it work, you'd need Aaron Donald and Geno Adkins to MAYBE pull it off. I'd love to see more four lineman and three linebackers (pick the three best) Heyward, Hargrave, Big Dan and Tuitt. I love the suggestion that since Dan is so limited, to just tell him to push the person in front of him as hard as he can. They need a collapsing pocket especially against Brady. Don't know why the coaches cannot see this...

We need a true NT to run a 3-4 defense, we havent had one since Casey left

The 3-4 is designed to stop the run, not the pass anyway, used to be Steelers were one of a handful to run it, now everyone does, there are no magic secrets left, no tweeners left in the draft, no scheme can make up for a lack of pass rush. They are all smoke now.

It can stop the pass, the top defenses in the NFL all use more than 2 Dlinemen on passing downs, why? Because you can get one hell of a push up the middle, and that's where QBs hate pressure. Also it limits the running gaps for those draws

Post of the day!!!#

Well its too late for all this jibber jabber anyway, if the Steelers lose to Pats and Ravens beat the Bucs we are most likely out of the playoffs

Did you really write "jibber jabber"?
Mff Mff
I knew a gal once that would refer to a male dangling participle as a " jibber jabber".
HA

If we are starting Burns, the *'s may cover the over/under by themselves.

That's the problem i have with it. Hargrave is a much better player than whichever ILB gets to stay on the field when they go nickel. It makes sense in theory when you have Shazier but LJ Fort?

It's especially bad now that Hargrave seems to have really improved as a pass rusher. Maybe the concern is Hargrave will get worn down. If that's the case then get him his rest some other way

You can rotate AluAlu and Walton through, hell just tell Big Dan to shove his guy as far back as he can.

You may be correct. I worry about Gronk whom they have never had an answer for and Edelman.

Take the Pats***** and the points.
