There aren’t many big moves left to make in free agency.

Sure, there’s still the question of whether our No. 1 free agent, Le’Veon Bell, will sign a long-term deal in Pittsburgh or play this season on the franchise tag. And there are big names out there like Adrian Peterson, Jamaal Charles and Jay Cutler. But of the Top 40 players in our Free Agent Hot 100, every single one of them has either signed a new deal or is restricted by the franchise tag or a first-round tender offer.

Overall, only 19 of the Top 100 players remain available. The highest-ranking player available is Cardinals linebacker Kevin Minter, who checks in at No. 44. Also available are No. 48, Bills linebacker Zach Brown, and No. 49, Giants defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins. Those are the only three players available in the Top 50.

So while there are still scores of free agents who will sign in the months ahead, few of them are the kinds of players who change a franchise. Those players were snapped up quickly.

So there's still a chance

Free Agency started??

Judging from some here, who want to nearly sell the team to get that ONE coveted free agent. Why YES, yes it HAS.

I think most would have been just happy with a upgrade at CB and OLBer....it didn't need to be a top 10 UFA or even a top 20, but damn adding nobody isn't improving...

What's this free agency you speak of? I've never heard of it.

As soon as Wheaton and Timmons were given deals way out of the range we would consider them worthy of our normal approach to free agency reinforced to full on turtle mode. Both Wheaton and Timmons got deals that should earn us comp picks in next year's draft so that coupled with teams overpaying for free agents reinforced our normal very conservative approach to free agency. The front office likely will only add cut players or free agents that don't change the net gain/loss equation and take the comp picks next year.

The way we slot contracts there were only a handful of players we would have targeted anyway. I would have liked an upgrade, but given what was out there and what they were getting I can't fault Tombert for not going the mortgage the future route and overpay today. This conservative approach should leave us enough to extend players like Shazier, Tuitt, AV and try to lock Bell up long term. This tactic should leave us this cap room to keep our own, gain a couple comp picks next year and remain competitive for years to come...business as usual.

We'll pick though the scrap heap for a couple pieces (there were still some RBs, DL and S mid range free agents last I checked), extend those who have earned it and not send ourselves into cap hell like we have been in recent years past.

We definitely need to draft well with this approach though. Edge rush, CB, DL and a weapon for Ben with our first 4 picks and then add a change of pace RB, WR and double dip for rush/CB with our 4-7 picks.

I'd take a flier on any of these guys for cheap:

Mario Williams
Darrelle Revis
Kevin Minter
Brandon Flowers
Sean Spence
Chris Long
Leon Hall
Jamaal Charles
Adrian Peterson
Johnathan Hankins

Other vets will get cut this summer. I wouldn't worry a lot.

You snooze you lose

Bengals signed ILB Kevin Minter to a one-year contract.

Minter gives the Bengals an every-down starter next to Vontaze Burfict. He played inside in Arizona and could bump MLB Rey Mauluga off the roster in Cincinnati. 26-year-old Minter was one of the top linebackers left in free agency.

Revis could work as a S
Adrian Peterson and Bell would make a damn good tandem

Revis AND Peterson??

*gets in line behind MTC to get some hits off the watermelon bong*

i'd not mind at all to have a guy like spence back.

Ha. Some want to cut Green to free up cap space. For what?

Timmons out of our price range....his contract with Miami was for peanuts I would take Timmons over Hightower everyday. Use what was left over on CB. Overpay for one maybe but every year the cost goes up for the talent available.
****. Hightower would of had to learn our system.....a system that is flawed but our coaches refuse to change it. Timmons probably would have stayed for less than he signed for in Miami....but we went after F'n Hightower. ..give me break. We were in the ball park his agant said. ...what.... $10 mill a year? That's crazy when you could of had Timmons back at way way less than that.
I question the people making the decisions. Sometimes change isn't a bad thing but a necessary thing.
Some say Green pulled a fast one on us. He was tied for 22nd on average salary of contract at $5 mill last season. That means 21 others contract average per year were higher. That was last season. He will fall farther back after this season. His contract was a peanut contract in today's NFL. You want to upgrade a position you pay for it.
In the end we did nothing to improve our team to beat the Pats*****. We have to hope if we make the playoffs that some other team will take out the Pats*****. Why not I guess.

Sorry for my rant....I do feel better though. Same old same old is ...well just old.

I'd try REVIS at CB some to see if he has it and if not then S. He might be better than what we have at CB?? As for Peterson...........JURY is out on that. Back up role maybe hard for him to swallow.
