Situational Football

You know what is even more amazing, unbelievable, mind boggling and bewildering than Seattles decision to Throw in that situation?

That New England was prepared for it.
Seattle never ran that play once, just installed it that for the super bowl, shocking NE knew it some how, **** them

I was screaming for them to take a knee 3 times and kick the FG

I was SCREAMING at the TV "Why are you passing the ******* ball??" on two straight drivers by the Falcons, and that lost the game. At NE's 22, they could've knelt down three times, run off over a minute and a half, and kicked a FG, game over.

A whole lot of screaming

now watch coach steal this and start a new thread

Yeah, a little MartyBall and the game is over...Another Shanahan and his shenanigans cost ATL a superbowl.

Yeah, a rookie makes the play of his life in the superbowl...move along fella, nothing to see here.

I still cannot reconcile the play calling down at the 23. Three straight runs almost gets you to the two-minute warning with probably at worst a 40 yard FG attempt....just slightly more than an extra point attempt, at worst. You either make it an 11 point lead and a two score game with 2 minutes or miss the attempt and fight to keep the lead. A high percentage you make the FG. No reason to pass there....absolutely no reason. I really think the brilliance of Bellichik is he knows these coaches cannot help but shoot themselves in the head. You called it....situational football. That's why you have Big Ben throwing bombs on 3rd and 1....you have Russell Wilson throwing a pick at the 1 yard line with Beast Mode standing beside you and why you run a long developing pass play at the 23 yard line with the clock running. Bellichik allowed them to beat themselves.

Oh, and don't forget not having Ben do a simple QB sneak for the TD....instead a handoff. Bellichik knew Ben doesn't run sneaks and knew exactly how to counter the Steelers. Self inflicted....every.single.time.

Honestly, digesting it and think about it. Last night's plays from the 20 make the Seattle interception look like brilliant strategy. At least Seattle was stressed with time and got baited into a bad situation. Atlanta was in complete control and folded aces full to a pair of nines.

But but but...

Their running back was hurt...

This is the freakin' Superbowl. Spread them out and scramble Ryan for 4 yards man. Jeez. Epic dumb. But hey, when you're the P*ts, it's as if statistical probability doesn't really matter anymore.

Not to mention they have 2 starting RBs that share duties. The starter Freeman wasn't even the one injured.

They like to play the " they think we're going to do this, so we'll do this" crap
Maybe the Falcs watched the AFCCG and thought they could mimic the Steelers but knew they could score?? I coached Pee Wee Rec football some years ago, not tootin my horn but some of my teams were pretty good and we won our share of County/ State championships. Some of my kids learned the game played HS and a few played college ball so I like to think I did something right. With an 8 point lead in FG range knowing your kickers success percentage in that range you're taking as much time off the clock and you go for the points. The other team has to get the ball back and score and save as much clock as they can either by using time outs (need em driving in final minute though), clocking the ball (better option but need 1st downs) or passing downs out of bounds. But trying to go vertical risking a sack or turnover?? I nearly blew my RC Diet Cola all over the place when "MVP Matty Ice" dropped deep to pass?? Who THE FAK called that play and why?? Made no sense whatsoever and almost as if the football gods directed the Falcs to make the decision so as to give the Pats yet another opportunity to swing momentum in their favor. Ponderous man simply freakin' ponderous!

Exactly. Freeman. If not run a fullback. **** run QB Sneak. They and their fans will have to live with that for ever. And how do you feel if you are a 49ers fan and your new HC essentially have the SB away.

It's been said over and over again yet I feel the need to jump in. Running the ball three times and kicking the field goal was the easiest call to make in the entire game. Do that and they are dancing in Atlanta right now.

Shanahan made the play calls but even Though Quinn is a defensive guy the buck stops with him. He had to have a mini huddle and say look boys we are running three dives and kicking a field goal. HC is in charge of strategy. OC employs it. Let's be honest. If that was the Steelers there would be no end to the criticism.

And FYI, Tomlin got this right when I was sitting in Baltimore with Batch at QB. We don't have the lead the whole game we score to get within 2pts. Get the ball back after a defensive stop. Had a big play to the Baltimore 20 with 2min left. Run-Run-Run, FG - Zeroes on the clock. That is how you win ballgames, but not giving the other team a CHANCE to win the football game.

Wilson was in shotgun, I think. Why wouldn't Pats** be prepared for a pass
From shotgun?

When the Falcons ****** up that drive and had to punt, I said "There goes the game".

Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity. And no one prepares like Hoodie prepares.
