Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier missed his second straight day of practice Thursday, leaving his status for Sunday’s game at St. Louis in question.

Shazier suffered a shoulder injury last week while posting a monster game against the 49ers. Shazier had 15 tackles, three tackles for loss, a forced fumble, a fumble recovery and a sack in that game. Injuries slowed Shazier’s transition to the NFL and to a new position last year, but the Steelers have a new scheme and a more confident Shazier has shown off his speed and instincts.

The Steelers aren’t good enough defensively to be missing one of their best players, and to make things more worrisome regarding Shazier’s situation, the Steelers have a short-week situation next week as they host the Ravens in a Thursday night game.

Snakebit again?

He just doesn't have the thickness needed to hold up with all the high impact contact an ILB is involved with. He needs more meat on his bones.

I thought Tomlin was just giving him a day off on Wednesday but missing Thursday also is a bad sign. My guess is he won't play this week but today will tell. No practice, no play, for sure. Sucks that he keeps getting injured. Didn't seem like he was injured in the game so not sure what actually happened to him.

He clearly had a stinger. I really didn't think it would be a big deal but everything that happens with this guy becomes a big deal.

I keep having Kendrell Bell flashbacks. I really hope I'm wrong.

I'm not worried yet. If he's a partial participant today, he's playing.

Guy had most of our big plays on D last week, he can sit out any practice he wants IMHO.

I'm hoping he's spending all the time in the tub to rehab because he's got 2 games in 5 days coming up

Agreed. Personally, I think we have enough depth at ILB to get by "this week" in St. Louie...sit Shaz and give the reps to 98 & 51 (Williams & Spence). We will need Shaz at 100% when the Rats come to town...

But, again, that's my personal opinion.

Maybe Shazier should be treated like a much older veteran. Limit his contact practices. We know how good he can be on game time.

Our need for him agains the lambs is minimal, compared to our need for him against the rats. Rest him, or at least don't start him on Sunday. Keep him fresh and ready for Fluko and company.

Take lots and lots of muscle relaxers.

We have a game on Thursday next week to think about in addition to Sunday. If he needs to not practice this week to play in both games so be it. If he can't play this week he may not play next week with the short turn around. I expect he will play

Sit his China doll ***..........let the super glue bond his porcelain parts so he can contribute vs our divisional opponent.

Some of you seem to be taking the Rams awfully light. We'll be damn lucky not to get our ***** handed to us in St.Louis. this offense will receive its toughest test this young season and they better be firing on all cylinders. Shazier may miss this game but I like our depth at the position though. Much better than other positions on this team.

Here's the update

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier now ruled out for Rams game, according to team. Thought rest might help his cause but...

just another weak linebacker. atleast he's fast unlike our other weak linebacker

Guessing this means he is also highly unlikely v the Rats next Thursday. Glad we have some depth at ILB to cover this up.

He better be able to go for the Ratbirds.
