Update on Ryan Shazier. Very good news. Continued prayers for him. #Steelers LB Ryan Shazier has shown promising signs this morning. I’m told he has some movement in his lower extremities after last night’s back injury, but the next 24-48 hours are key for increased improvement. — Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 5, 2017

Awesome news! Praying for a full recovery for him.

Glad to hear it. Get better Ryan.

The big thing is the swelling needs to go down in his spine. When it does, hopefully he will regain full function of his legs. Since he's in the hospital and has anti-inflammatories pumping in his veins, the swelling will reduce quicker than it would have on its own.

I'd be surprised if they release him before he can walk. And just because he may spend another night there, doesn't mean this injury is any less/more severe. He just needs the swelling to go away.

I was remembering that Tommy Maddox had a similar injury and he was okay. Hopefully Shazier is the same.

Shazier (spine) undergoing further testing

Steelers ILB Ryan Shazier (spinal contusion) is expected to remain hospitalized in Cincinnati as he undergoes further testing.

The Steelers had been hopeful Shazier would return to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. His doctors still believe he could do so before the end of the week. Hopefully we get more good news soon.

Steelers’ Ryan Shazier upbeat despite spinal injury

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier will remain in a Cincinnati hospital until at least Wednesday to undergo further testing on a spinal injury suffered in the first quarter of Monday night’s win over the Bengals.

The Steelers had hoped Shazier would be able to return to Pittsburgh on Tuesday. The timetable has been pushed back at least 24 to 48 hours. He is expected to be transferred to a Pittsburgh hospital later in the week.

While the severity of the injury will remain unknown until the swelling subsides, the relentlessly upbeat Shazier offered a bit of hope Tuesday evening.

“Thank you for the prayers,” Shazier tweeted. “Your support is uplifting to me and my family. #SHALIEVE”

Ryan Shazier injury update: Steelers LB undergoing more tests, wants team to focus on Ravens

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier remains hospitalized in Cincinnati, but he wants his teammates' minds on Baltimore — the Ravens, that is — as he continues to recover from Monday's scary spine injury.

That was the message relayed Wednesday morning by quarterback Ben Roethlisberger, who said he had spoken to Shazier.

“We send our thoughts and prayers for Ryan and his family, but we have a game,” Roethlisberger told reporters Wednesday (via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette). “We know that’s what Ryan wants. In talking to Ryan, that’s what he wants. So we’re going to go out and prepare for the Baltimore Ravens like Ryan would want us to do and is asking us to do.”

Roethlisberger didn't offer any other details of his conversation with Shazier, only adding: “It’s a brother. It’s a teammate. You never like to see injuries happen in football. It’s a scary incident. We just continue to pray for him and his family.”

Steelers safety Mike Mitchell also spoke with Shazier, saying he is "in good spirits, already making progress."

"For those concerned just got off the phone with 50," Mitchell tweeted Tuesday, referring to Shazier's jersey number. "He's in good spirits (and) already making progress. God has him. Keep praying keep believing in faith."

So this is a little concerning now. Shazier not being released means his swelling is still severe. If his swelling is severe, he probably can't walk yet. It is smart to leave him where he is to wait for the swelling to subside. That will give him the fastest recovery time for his spinal swelling to subside.

48hrs will be at 10pm tonight. He may need another 24-48hrs. I'm still optimistic, because the severity of the injury won't be known until the swelling is gone. Once that happens it will be time to assess his ability to leave the hospital.

He’s back in Pittsburgh, per yahoo sports

Still does not sound that great. I have not heard any medical person say he move his legs and what not. I would think that if he regained most or all movement they would report it. Hopefully I am wrong.

Im asking this will all possible due respect. All I really care about is Ryan the person. If he doesnt play next year or doesnt play again. Id feel bad for him because this is his livelihood. But as long as he had a normal life Id be happy for him. However, is the prevailing thought that his season is over or do you think he could be back.
