Can timmons still play OLB? He played there off and on when he was drafted. I like having Williams who appears to be our best tackler, and a bit of a physical presence there. When Shazier is healthy, that is. It would get our 3 best LB'S on the field at the same time, and Timmons is better in coverage than any of our OLB's as it is, and Jones and Chick just went out

Well, with Chick, JJ and Dupree all injured ... back up emergency might just turn into "next man up". Here's to hoping Chick and JJ can play next week.

Any updates on the injuries to Chick and JJ? I was hoping they were just holding them out because of the score.

Didn't they try this a few years back? I don't remember it working out so well.

Yeh, the Timmons outside experiment was a bust if I recall correctly. As I remember it, he only played there a couple games.

Even with the extra bulk he's added the last few years, Timmons isn't strong enough to set the edge. The majority of his sacks and pressure through the years have come on free or delayed blitzes (love ya, Dick). We lucked the **** out that he worked inside, because he definitely doesn't work at ROLB. Like Falco said, they tried him there when we were super injured in 2011 and it was a waste.

If Timmons struggles, I have no problem putting Williams in for him. But, I think when Shaz is out, Timmons moves to his position and Williams comes in to fill Timmons position. Shaz calls the plays with Timmons as his backup. I could be wrong on that but if that's the case, don't expect Timmons to be off the field when Shaz is.

We still have Harrison and Moats as starters, and I'm fine with that. Steve Johnson is an option, as well as bumping Timmons outside.
We have plenty of depth at ILB, I'm fine with Fort or Big Red on the field.

I'm not looking for a pass rush from him at OLB, because we get none from Jones and Moats, harrison had more pressure on Smith in one qtr last night than Jones has had all year, but if we aren't getting a pass rush from the OLB and Timmons can't cover down the middle anymore, having our 3 best LBs on the field isn't horrible. IMO Timmons does everything Moats and Jones can do, only better.
