Season's Over - Time To Talk Draft?

Wonder if Cortez would be better suited as a free safety? He seems to be able to find the ball, at least he did before this year. Get rid of Mitchell. Guy just doesn't do anything. But with Cortez, you have some length at free, which you will need if Shamarko is really going to be the starter at strong.

Say what you want about TMC; agree or disagree with his evaluation of Tomlin/Colbert drafts, he knows his stuff when it comes to evaluating the talent available in the draft. .

oh yeah - that's why he said Bell would be a bust compared to Eddie Lacy

and refused to change his prediction before he ran off

Well, it can be argued that statement was one of "opinion" rather than evaluating Bell prior to the draft. Nobody I know hits 'em all and all the draftnik types have their personal favorites/biases. But the guy's draft guide was a great resource for folks like me who ... let's be honest ... are a little too lazy to do all that research themselves.

one wrong prediction can't overshadow a body of work.

Maybe he was stubborn in his view at times, I think most of us can lay claim to that.

I know I can............

I know he liked Lacy better for the Steelers, but I don't recall him saying Bell would be a bust. I wanted Bell over Lacy, but I don't think he was wrong about Lacy, the kid is the real deal.

That said, I wouldn't trade Bell for any other RB in the league.

KC OLBer Houston for one, maybe Orakpo on a one year friendly contract.... That is assuming Jarvis is the last man standing at the position.

Chris Harris Jr., Cornerback, Denver Broncos He played solid for them........

Hell get Houston and Thomas and the D instantaneously becomes solid.

Chris Harris Jr just got a big extension to stay with the Broncos a few weeks ago.

You'd have to sell the farm to get Houston which is what we should do.

Deebo will be gone. Worilds will sign a bigger contract elsewhere than we can offer...or should offer. If he was used more as a MLB instead of a pass rusher in order to deflate his cost, as it seemed, then that was counter-productive to our success this season. I'd bring Worilds back if we got him at a decent contract, and we let him rush the ******* passer, since he proved he could, instead of playing center field.

Would appear Cam Thomas is gone based on savings. If Landry Jones could at least be as good as Gradkowski, that would save us another 1.5 mil. Lance Moore - gone. Troy is also likely gone, or will retire. Those moves would give us more cap room.

It's a delusional dream that we sign Houston from KC. Why would they even allow him to leave?

As it stands now, using the savings from above, we can expect a starting lineup of
Heyward, McCullers, Tuitt (with McLendon a backup)
Jarvis, Timmons, Shazier, ?? at LB (Williams, Spence and Zumwalt on as backups)
Gay, Mitchell, Thomas and Allen in the secondary (McCain and Blake are FAs)

Quite obviously we need help in the secondary since we'll be trotting out Cortez and Thomas. We also need an OLB since Moats is a FA. I'd think we could bring back Moats for a non-bank-breaking contract, as well as a decent contract with McCain and/or Blake. I'd fully expect us to draft a CB or OLB in the early portion of the draft and really want to think that moving into the starting position messed with Cortez's head and caused him to put more pressure on himself after signing that big contract.

I agree we need to be defense heavy in the draft but one position we can't overlook is TE. We all love Heath, but he is near the end of his career and no one else on the roster at that position impresses me. Heath would be a great mentor for a young guy.

Absolutely agree, TE must be a priority as well. From the film I've watched so far I like Ben Koyack from Notre Dame 6'5 261, but I've seen people say Jeff Heuerman (Ohio State) is a Miller clone, but I haven't watched him much yet. I also have like the little I've seen from Clive Waterford of Miami U 6'4 259 and he can be had around the 3rd round as his stock stands now. Still have to watch more of all the TE prospects though.

I can't see us going OL in the first 4 rounds. It is not a glaring need. The current group improved this year and was no where near the weakest part of the team. In fact, I'd give them an above average grade for the year with the "arrow pointing up". The secondary is priority 1 - both CB and S. OLB and pash rush is priority 2. We have a lot of ILB's. Not sure if anyone can move outside. Williams played well this year. I'd look to move him outside. Shazier and Timmons will man the middle.

I don't know if Heuerman is a Heath Clone, but his game resembles Heath's more than the new age pass catching only TEs. Heuerman can and will block. He's not a speed demon, but he can get open and make the same type of plays Heath does (at least he has done so at the College level). He's got good hands and he's a tough lil s.o.b. He'd be a great pick to learn from Heath for a year or two.

Actually Beachum is the 5th highest rated LT in the league (per PFF). The problem is Gilbert/Adams.

Or they could draft heavy D with corners and OLBer pass rushers then bring in depth at RB and WR or TE

maybe a Gore

Cobb

or Daniels

Cobb is either getting resigned by GB or will command starting money in FA. He has a lot of similar abilities to AB so he'd be out of our cap range and we have very good depth at WR no need to spend that much money there. Gore would be a nice veteran backup for Bell and Daniels may be affordable, but I'd prefer getting a young TE to learn under Heath until he's done.

Williams is way too slow to play OLB , it is why he is only a 2 down ILB.

Williams is a liability in coverage as an ILB. His forty time (4.79) actually measures up pretty well with Woodley (4.74), Harrison (4.85), Suggs (4.84), Tamba Hali (4.87) and a few other OLBs who have played at a Pro Bowl level. What I would question regarding Williams as an OLB is his explosion/quickness and first step. Sure wouldn't question his desire or motor.

see bring in one free agent difference maker even if it cost a little more. Should be as they improved from last year to this year. One or two impact players can push the team a little further.............. into the playoffs.

And with the draft you have to go BPA or you get caught reaching on someone who probably will help little if at all.

Which is why I want a OLBer and CB in FA or a CB and SS..................or switch to a 4/3 and bring in Suh................ We need more talent on D whichever direction they go..............but if a O player is clearly better value outside of C,G,QB you almost have to make the pick..........

I agree we need to get some difference makers to propel this team, and strongly agree you go BPA and do not reach for a need, although I think if the value isn't there at positions of need or future need than this is a good year to trade down we could use some extra picks
