Screw 2020 ... on to 2021

I just saw this article......, Interesting ! Will it happen ? Not a freakin prayer, but it does sound ...like I said , interesting.

I'm sorry but those players listed in FA are not going to have interest in the rebuild. Even TJ with his brothers. Everyone wants a shot at a champ before they retire.

On the coaches, we absolutely need a new O coordinator and a new O line coach. If our O line can't run block and pass block then that is a ******* huge problem. Get rid of the players if they can't do it and get a coach that can teach them what to do.

If Larry Fitzgerald was looking to end his career with a title, Pittsburgh shouldn't be his first choice.

The thing about TJ, do we even know if he will be resigned, everyone assumes it's inevitable. If our coaching staff is as big a disaster as we think it is, TJ knows this and sees the writing on the wall. He could very well force the Steelers hand and quietly demand a trade or just play out his contract. It seems a bit sacrilegious to suggest our beloved TJ would do such a thing but what would you do if you showed up to work everyday and realized that this is only going to get worse.

You have control of him for at least two more years. I'm pretty sure after watching Bud, he will want the money.

For the Steelers to win a Super Bowl with Ben, they would need a top 5 defense and a top 10 running game. If you don't think you can make that happen with our cap situation, then we might as well move on from Ben.

You can have a top 5 defense if either you resign Dupree and Hilton or Sutton or resign Hilton & Sutton and draft a quality Edge player to compete with Highsmith. In either situation you also have to add some quality defensive depth in the draft.

To have a top 10 running game you need to replace both OT's thru draft or free agency, acquire a quality blocking TE and draft a stud RB..

Seems like it would take some magic to do all that, but we'll see what they come up with.

Steelers will make him one of the highest paid defenders in the NFL, he's not going anywhere

This is quite accurate as is the word magic, which is why i move on and clear the cap space.

agreed, but even then we'd come out flat vs a lower seed just like a Tomlin coached team.

#1 priority, move on from Big Ben. And its not his fault, he is still a viable QB next year. Its simply the way they have structured his contract and retaining him will put you back in this same spot next season. He is a band aid on a gushing wound.

The gushing wound is HCMT and his brain trust. No amount of money, talent, great draft picks or clever roster maneuvers can overcome that. 14 years makes that point.

Convince me otherwise. G'head.

Don't get me wrong, I'm hoping he stays and is paid. The one thing that bothers me is will he be worth it if the NFL continues to promote studio wrestling at the line of scrimage in order to insure their offensive proliferation agenda.

What I can say with all honesty, if I have to watch the Steelers get manhandled for the next few years, I'd just as soon have somebody other than Ben Roethlisberger getting the **** beat out of him for nothing.

You basically have to ask yourself, "Do I believe there is ANY way whatsoever that the Steelers can actually compete next year. (And by compete, I mean for a Superbowl or at least a deep run in the playoffs.) If your answer is no, (and I can't possibly imagine it isn't) you really just have to hope that Ben's wife has the sense to point out that she doesn't want to feed him through a straw for the next 15 years for nothing.

And honestly, it's about time we got to see what Mike Tomlin can do without Ben Roethlisberger giving him at least 8 wins every single year.

Truthfully, I believe they are going to start losing badly. Ben is already beginning to decline and he's not likely to get significantly better than he is now. So I'd rather watch the team lose without Ben than with him. Just too painful seeing a guy who's anchored this team for the last 17 years just get the **** kicked out of him week after week and then go before the media and say "I have to play better" while the rest of the team records TikTok videos and works on their TD dances.

I would talk Ben into retiring and I’d see if he can take Pouncey with him.

I personally do not think Juju will be a Steeler next year. I think the opportunity to play with a new QB with a better passing offense is in his sight and he will leave. Especially if Ben leaves

We need to find a RB that goes forward and either go RB by committee or draft one.

Watt is the biggest priority on this team. Do whatever it takes to sign him.

I would let Rudo and Dobbs battle it out for the starting job next year and see what this team can do.

6-10 or 7-9 isn’t that bad...it’s not like this team knows how to win a damn playoff game anyway.

Moving forward what should we do for next season?

What UFAs should we resign
Whom needs jettisoned
What positions should we target in the draft?

If possible, let’s leave the firing coaches talk out of this.....as much as I would love to bash them more, lets keep it talent related...

We have negative cap space. Get ready to see some current players CUT. Get ready to lose 3-4 key free agent, enough to fetch us 3rd-5th round comp picks for 2022.

In the draft target QB, C, RB, OT, DT.NT

I want Tomlin to coach 2021 We'll see how bad he. We will reload in 2022 with better cap space, and lots of draft picks for the new coach, plus have a higher draft picks per round as next year the schedule is brutal. I see 7-10.

Look-- We were 1-5 in our last six games. We are in negative cap space. Good players departing will be departing via free agency, old and expensive players remain. It's over. The window to play in another Super Bowl is shut.

Rooney must act. Re-build. Prepare for the future.

We don't need to see Tomlin post Ben to see what we have. We have a good motivational regular season coach that can't make adjustments to get you past that. There is no mystery going on.

I agree, but the OP said don't bring up the coach or coaching staff I believe. Moving on post Ben becomes priority #1. A successful rebuild starts with right coach right QB.

A significant part of what has to change is the culture and commitment to build a team that has a chance to win in the playoffs . You would think with the success over the years this would be easy to fix however the question is how was it allowed to get so far off track . I doubt this failure lies at the feet of just 1 person. This is not as simple as plug and play a few parts. The Steelers have abandoned the running game and thus have no way to control a game, wear down opponents , rest the defense. Not sure you could have a better example than what we just witnessed. The browns dominated the line of scrimmage early imposing their will while the Steelers relying on finesse failed and were essentially shoved out of their own stadium. This strategic shift has also resulted in relying on flashy inconsistent playmakers vs consistent hardened leaders ie the Bettis and ward mentality. The Steelers trend of disproportionately throwing the football has resulted in past years opponents knowing that a trip to Hienz field would require winning the battle in the trenches to playing a team that throws the ball more than anyone in the league. The current strategy is a failure and the culture has to be rebuilt. It’s almost a lock that if Tomlin wants to stay he will and Ben’s super bowl successes were complimented by reliable running games and a defense that was capable of making a 4th qtr stop. The former we do not have and it is questionable that we have the latter. Can this staff execute the shift back to winning playoff football? Can our oline be rebuilt to run the ball can we get a Rb that can pound out yards and 1st downs , can receivers catch the ball , is it sustainable to rely so heavily on tj watt flash plays? Certainly there are many quality players on this team , Cowher reinvented a team ....I guess we will have to wait and see in a division that is trending towards having 3 pretty good young qbs.

You bring in a LT in free agency.

Tag Bud

Resign Sutton and Juju and maybe Hilton.

Besides the draft these are moves that should be made IMO.

Tag Bud? He won't be ready to go until late season next year.

Thoughts?

Yes, yes, and yes its time to go outside the organization, as long as Tomlin let's him run the offense

No matter your thoughts on the Steelers plan this off-season, this is an excellent read on why one writer thinks the Steelers should do. I will add it mirrors much of what I think the team should do to best set up success for future years.
