Schefter reports that Jones suffered setback regarding neck injury

A pick at 21 should absolutely not be a project. Maybe not all pro. But dont be giving up the farm for that. Plus they can stay put at Tackle with Dylan Cook and go Guard. Then take Tackle in the Third. They aren't winning a SB next year.

“Nothing has changed with Broderick,” Steelers general manager Omar Khan said. “He is still working to get back to where he needs to be. Nothing has changed there. No new information since we last spoke in March (at the NFL Annual Meeting).”

Apparently that report was a bunch of bullshit.

Meh...there is one top OT in this draft. Simply go get him. Move up and grab him. Or settle on another project I guess.

I really like the you tube stuff i seen on Monroe Freeling.. Im not a draft guru.

That said.. In order to get one of the tackles the steelers would need to move from 21 up to like 9 or 10, based on what i seen in an article from the site that shall not be named.

UFA OPTIONS AT LT that dont include the draft, since draft picks are far from a sure thing to be ready as rookies....
1. Taylor Decker -32- looking for a starting gig, Detroit wanted him to take a pay cut and he refused.. probably the best true starter
2. Cam Robinson -30- inconsistent the past two years but also has been getting traded in season a couple times so switching schemes a lot.. has 114 career starts
3. Kelvin Beachum -36- Arizona wants him back as their swing tackle, but he had 11 starts last year abd has 174 for his career... still solid at 36
4. DJ Humphreys -32- has 101 career starts.. a bit flakey with contracts the past couple years so his market is likely suppressed for things other than play
5. Calvin Anderson -30- he wouldnt start, He would just back up cook like last year...

Whether the report has any merit or not, I'm sick of Broderick Jones. Another bold move to trade up for a guy, just like Devin Bush, only to see him become a huge disappointment.

It's at least refreshing to know that McCarthy will be in that draft room on Thursday instead of Tomlin, and maybe if they do decide to put a package together, it's for a player who can step in and be a productive starter on day one. Not a "hoper" like Jones was.

NO, you don’t move Fautanu.

If you have to, you move up in the draft and get that “stud” LT that has been needed for awhile.

Moving Fautanu would be a RE-action type thing, something our previous coaching staff has done often (re-action)

That re-action move has put us in this type of problem many times over. (Think QB / Dan Moore to name a few)

We need PRO-ACTION and if that means spending draft capital to solidify the trench, then so be it.

I don’t get what some are saying here. Why don’t you move Fautanu to LT? You do realize he played every game in his college career as a LT except 2 games where he played LG. LT was the position he made his reputation as a #1 pick for the Huskies.
The weird thing that was questioned was why they drafted 2- LT’s in a row as #1’s. But they didn’t want to pass up the talent. And I am certainly glad they drafted him. Put him back in his natural position. LT.
They put Jones as a RT in his first year as well. It always pissed me off when Tomlin made the players play in their unnatural position. It certainly isn’t Troy’s fault the Steelers threw him in at RT.

The best examples of Tomlin playing guys out of position are putting Jones at RT because the execrable Dan Moore had one leg shorter than the other or some ****, and Kevin Dotson at left guard when he excels at right guard.

My favorite was when they drafted Kendrick Green and threw in the rookie from day one as their starting Center. He started 29 games at LT in his college career and a whopping 4 games as center because their starter had Covid.

I mean, what could go wrong with the brilliant CMT and his strategic chess moves? I actually felt sorry for Green as he became the laughing stock to the fans through no fault of his own. Tomlin should have been either fired for that or sued for incompetence.

1) Didn't like the fact that they traded up to draft him in the first place.
2) He's been injury-prone.
3) He doesn't seem to have the best work ethic.
4) Fautanu played almost exclusively at LT in college. He didn't seem to have a problem adjusting to right tackle, did he? Why did Jones? It should be harder to transition from right to left than vice versa, shouldn't it?
5) After he was "made to play RT," did he then forget how to play left tackle when they moved him back there in 2025? Because he didn't perform very well.

I think that about covers it.

Staying put with Cook projected as Day 1 starter at LT is almost as smart as going into a season with DK as the only receiver…what could go wrong

calvin anderson is garbage

Weird.

Not only was Fautano a LT in college, but Mason McCormack was a LG in college.

One of the draft favourites at OG is Rutledge, who is a RG.

Iheanachor & Rutledge in Round 1 & 2 to play right side, Fautano & McCormack move to the left...

This doesn’t change anything for me. Even if Jones is ready at the start of camp, he needs to win back his staring job. Dylan Cook played better than Jones.

Don't forget the genius moves at C

I hope with real coaching he bounces back and has. An incredible year.

There are now two holes on the oline. You only have one first round pick. So you have to look at what you have. What is my better covered position on the roster. Id say left tackle. The performance hardly went downhill when Cook took over. Limited sample. But a draft pick is limited sample to zero.

Tomlin, greatest coach ever, left a few of the cupboards bare

I hear yaz Steelmann, my point was is harder than one thinks to move from position to position.

Maybe Fautanu would be an exception, and if they do move him I HOPE like hellA it works for the positive.

The draft will be interesting to see what direction the team goes.

i certainly understand the mindset of not wanting to move players around, but as has been said, Fautanu was a LT before being drafted. Starks may be an anomaly, but he did well after being moved. Fautanu did well his first season at RT.

For the sake of discussion - say the top LTs are gone at 21 or we're offered a very nice trade. The first is a real possibility. Moving Fautanu to LT isn't out of the question at this point. Cook was getting abused the more teams became aware of his tendencies and abilities.

So we're on the clock Taken are Mauigoa, Freeling, Lomu, Fano, Proctor, Iheanachor, and Miller.

Suddenly we're on the outside looking in on the gone Tackles. So we go BPA, instead of Position of Need.

I'd not hesitate to move Fautanu over to LT in this situation.

That would seem unlikely, right? Iheanachor is a good RT prospect but not top 20? Right? RIGHT?

But once the OT run begins, it snowballs. We see this every draft. Good news is that the Steelers have 12 picks and can spend the #76 pick and their first-round pick to move up to 15. The Steelers probably need to add a later-round 2027 pick to even up the draft value since without some more, the deal is 1010 points for the two picks and 1050 for the #15 pick. 40 points does not sound like much but that is in fact equal to a lower slot 4th round pick.

Which leads me to ask whether or not the Steelers would have been better off if Loop makes the kick ... never mind.
