Schefter reporting Steelers are now listening to trade offers for Bell (jets maybe)

Are you ******* dense? Can't "sign" and trade. He has a franchise tag. He can sign his tender and then be traded, yes, but he can not get a new contract until after the league year.

Yes, that's what I mean by sign and trade. He can sign his tender, then we trade him.. No where did I say he'll get a new contract for 2019 and beyond. That will be next year which is why I floated a trade idea that depends on the team he's trading to retaining Bell next year.

Example: Bell signs his tender, and the Steelers trade him to Cleveland for their 3rd round pick this year AND a conditional 4th round pick if they sign him for the 2019.

you apply common logic to Cooch's posts.
stop. dumb it down, Korky.

Any team that wants him, even as a 1 year rental needs about $10 million in cap space. Over half the teams in the league either have this available or can easily make it available. Let's hope a few teams start bidding for him as we get closer to the trade deadline. That's when something, if anything, will happen.

For those who don’t know yes he can’t stick it to the Steelers and not sign to the very end. Here’s what most don’t know the Steelers can then hold him out up to 2 games on an exempt list. Now bell does not have the full 8 games to consider it a full season. Steelers can then once again Tag his ***! So yeah bell can but at his own peril!

to be a dick, Bell will now show up in the next week or two. then give half-assed effort.

I realize anything is possible, but if my team gave their 1st round pick for a RB that has no guarantee of staying after this season ends, I'd want the GM fired. For Bell, its probably either or. Play after week 10 for the Steelers or another team. And then be a street free agent in the off-season, going to the highest bidder.

Naw he ain't showing up until he absolutely has to. And he will be out of shape to boot. Who ever is giving him career advice is a ******* MO-RON!

He thinks he's going to get Gurley or Mack dollars and he is sorely mistaken. He's going to be a year older in a league where RBs have short careers anyways. He has had knee injuries in the past and is a strike away from a suspension. Good luck Le'Veon

The only problem with this scenario is Adrian Peterson.

He has come back strong from his knee injury and he had personal issues as well too...

This is frustrating to say the least.

Coach, you're accuracy is like pissing in a hurricane hoping not to get your leg wet...

I don't know. Do I think a team is dumb enough to trade for him on a tender? No. Do I think a team is dumb enough to give him 20mil a season? Yes.

A reminder:

The games Bell needs to play is 6 to be a UFA not 8.

A team can increase the value of the tag along with a verbal agreement on a contract perimeter come the end of their season.

They are listening, but supposedly, none of the other 31 teams have contacted them. ( a/o this morning)

Great point Slash,

A benefit of a team trading for Bell as opposed to waiting for FA, is that team can sign Bell to a long term contract after the season, before free agency even starts. So they don't have to compete with suitors and he's theirs.

Interesting insight into his market value. I know it's not a very strong correlation since there is the "one year rental on the franchise tag for now" element to it. But if literally not one team thinks he is their missing piece for a SB run this year, is he really going to get his eleventy billion dollars guaranteed that he's looking for next summer?

And I hear what you're saying Fuzzy, but no one knows exactly what the communication level is, and Colbert doesn't tip his hand. He never has, so we wouldn't hear anything until a deal is heating up. The only thing we know for sure, is he doesn't have a deal worked out...YET!

True, he could be misleading “the paper”.

There is a lot of speculation out there. No one knows the extent of those conversations except for the parties directly involved. Just for the record that includes Shefter NOT knowing either as he is just throwing stink **** to see what will stick. He probably heard someone a little in the know say something like I'm pretty sure the STEELERS are trying to move Bell, then ran with it from there. I hope we can move him from many reasons one being a now pick VS a 2020 compensation pick.

Salute the nation

They are also in Tampa right now.Colbert would be there as well. I would think teams may have called but were told call back Tuesday morning when he's back in his office. I think Tues and Wed is when you will hear more about potential trade teams. after the game is over tonight.

I hope this is sarcasm/obvious joke.
It's 2018.
Colbert, I'm sure, has a cell phone where his secretary can put someone through to him.
He'd also be able to log into his computer at the office, if need be, for files or whatever.
I don't think Colbert physically has to be in his office to complete a trade.
Nor do I think he told his secretary before he left for Tampa, "Hey, if someone calls about Bell, take a message and I'll call them when I get back."
I couldn't even imagine that scenario in 1970, let alone today.
LOL

Thank you for saving me a lot of typing. Was going to say the same thing. 2018=cell phones/iphones/etc

nope, no way, if he is not at his desk there is no way he can intelligently discuss anything about a possible trade...it just couldn't happen....

Bell has to sign first before he can be traded. That means he has to report and it looks like he doesn't want to put in any work until he has to, which will likely occur AFTER the trade deadline. He's stuck in a bad spot

Article 10, Section 15 of the collective bargaining agreement states if a franchise player doesn't play in a league year, the team "shall have the right" to designate him as a franchise player once again, though once that tag is in place, the draft compensation in a trade would drop from two first-round picks to a first- and a third-round pick

The New York Jets have contacted the Pittsburgh Steelers to express interest in trading for running back Le'Veon Bell, sources told Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.

More to come.
