I assume the 900K or so that Bell forfeits each week increases our Cap surplus this year. If he holds out a long time and this surplus
keeps increasing, can we use this surplus in the next league year?

If he sits 10 weeks he's likely doing us a favor as long as Conner can deliver. We get salary cap relief and we get a fresh Bell going into the playoffs.

Does come with a risk compared to a known.

IF Connor is carrying the load, it would be a total slap in the face to allow Bell to step back in. I would still rescind the tag, right before he signs it, even knowing we would lose the comp pick. The cap adjustment next year would allow for a few decent replacements, instead of rolling the dice on a draft choice.

I wouldn't rescind it. If he holds out long, just don't dress him after he signs. Keep the comp pick.

I agree. Why do you think they drafted another RB this year? They know Bell is a walk FA once his tag is up. They'll go draft another RB who will be locked into a cheap rookie deal and save the cap a TON of cap money. That's how the Steelers do business.

I believe Conner can and will run the ball very well. What we don't know is how his pass blocking and receiving skills will be. I believe he's a big drop off in the receiving game. Pass blocking will be clutch. Bell is severely underrated as a pass blocker. Our TEs have been dinged up, which takes away a safety valve and makes Bell more valuable to us. We're going to find out Sunday what we have in Conner.

That is an awful lot of cheddar to pay for a 3rd round pick, 5+ MILLION to buy a late 3rd rounder. My position is that the 14 MILLION would buy a few more proven players, with a better chance of success, then a truly unknown early 4 round draft pick. And that is IF they get the 3rd for him in the first place.
