Salary cap going up!!!

We will be using our salary cap space to sign our own, not bring in outside free agents. Thankfully it seems like a strong and deep draft for edge rushers.

Well, Coach, I guess we can now afford to keep Foster (not trade him) if the younger, cheaper, Finney beats him out next year. [/sarcasm]

I'm talking about money to sign our players. As Steelersfan81stated if the cap goes up that much we will have over 40 million in cap room.. Doesn't matter if it the price goes up we will have money to sign them. We pay top price for players we want and who are worth it...

But a team who didn't have any cap space, can now compete against us.

If a team has a lot of cap space, it would be better news if the cap went down as it would push the competition further out of the market.

If a player we want, wants to go to a team that sucks over us because of money **** him.

No. Every team will need to sign players and every team will have an increased salary cap and will compete for those players. The price for the players we want to sign will just go up.

You got that right. People act like it's some sort of advantage for the Steelers, everyone will get the same increase, so everyone can overpay in FA

3.6 million in cap space is nothing to sneeze at. I'd rather have a top level backup QB than a backup Guard with that money. Just saying...

Can someone give me a clear picture the Steelers salary cap situation. I saw that the cap went up and went to over the cap. It shows that we do have 30 some million of space next season. however it only has 30 some players under contract. it included guys like Chickillo and Ayers as free agents even though they were only drafted one or two years ago. Can someone clarify the real cap situation as it pertains to their ability to lock up AB and Bell or at least lock up AB and franchise Bell.

Well, that's one way to look at. And you're entitled to your opinion ('Merica!!). However, I'd rather have the insurance of a top level backup Guard to protect our FRANCHISE QB and open holes for our ALL-PRO RB. And that's my opinion. Which I'm entitled to ('Merica!!). Just a basic difference of opinion.

So who is better? Nick Perry or Chandler Jones? Both are young and can get to the QB. The also both run similar systems.

If we lose Silverback, I wouldn't mind having Zo Alexander for insurance.

My understanding is that Harrison wants to play more

Coach, did you read my post? Where are you getting $3.6M by cutting Foster?
He's just a Coach.. no time for salary cap stuff you know with all the highlights.... I mean tape to review

All these years and he still doesn't grasp how contracts work. I'd understand it if he weren't corrected, with explanations included, at least 4 times per season

You could give Cleveland 200mil and they'd still mess up their roster to be uncompetitive...Jacksonville too...

Personally, I like Perry because he's played in a 3-4 before. I don't know if Chandler Jones has (too lazy to check)...

I'm sure AZ will re-sign Jones. They traded for him and surely won't let him walk

The Reality of Cap increase is that for the most part it is the leagues cost of living increase for the players. There is say a 2.5% increase in the cap, it will cost you more to sign free agents and rookies. Only if you had a vast majority of players locked up would this really be helpful. The Steelers will have to do business with AB and Bell. The increase to the Salary Cap will both be reflected in their contract and likely eat up all or most of the increase.

Maybe that dynamic pass rusher is on our roster, Dupree, he started off strong last year, hit the rookie wall, injury set back, but looked very good last week.

we still need another. He should come out of the first 2 rounds of the draft because the FA will be pretty thin. The star FAs will be kept by their teams or overpaid by those teams like the jaguars

just on a non capoligist point of view, it looks like if you wanna keep Ben,Bell, and Brown, you're gonna have to put up with a homegrown Defense.

if you want Vaughn Miller playing OLB, one of those three gotta go.

unless they draft that guy.

good luck with that.
