Saints signed Feeney from our practice squad. I'm pissed.

That sucks, injuries are takig a serious toll on the team

In camp, I felt Feeney could be a good 3rd down nickel linebacker if healthy and given the chance. Not to upset here, he's a very injury prone type of player.

Why don't we ever steal anybody?

A very good question. Anyone who watched the pre-season knows the other teams 2nd and 3rd string is ofter better than ours.

I loved the pick but from what I say in preseason was OLB was not his position; ILB or even SS he looked more suited for.

If you sign someone from someone else's practice squad they have to remain on your active roster for the rest of the season.

ooooh, I knew they had to go on your active roster, but didn't know it had to be for the rest of the season.

I have not often heard more positives AND negatives on the same player. To this day, I don't know if this guy is a player or a bum. I guess I needn't ponder it any longer; probably will never hear his name mentioned again.

I liked the potential when they drafted him, but after seeing him in camp, I didn't know his position. He was way too lean to play outside and really didn't flash much in his limited opportunities.

They can cut him after a week if they like. Practice squad players signed to other teams can be cut just like any other player. They get guaranteed 3 game checks but can be cut after a week.

Signing Practice Squad players from another team requires that player to be on the teams Active roster for at least 3 weeks. He can be released/IR anytime after.

If a practice squad player is signed to the active roster, he will receive a minimum of three weekly paychecks, even if he is released before spending three weeks with the new team.

Like I said he is guaranteed 3 weeks pay but he can be cut after the first week.

suspicion confirmed

Yeah this is from BTSC, but it's an independent site, and not the NFL official. Other independent sites, Yahoo, SteelerDepot, say somewhat the same, but slightly different.

"Report: Saints Signing LB Travis Freeney Off Of Steelers’ Practice Squad

By Dave Bryan December 9, 2016 at 12:38 pm

According to a Friday morning report, the Pittsburgh Steelers are about to lose one of their 2016 draft picks to the New Orleans Saints.

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that the Saints are planning on signing linebacker Travis Feeney off the Steelers’ practice squad pending a physical....

...Per NFL rules, the Saints must keep Feeney on their 53-man roster for three weeks after signing him off the Steelers practice squad."

The eligibility rules were revamped because of the increase in squad size to 10. Now teams can pay PS guys whatever they want to get them signed. There is also a limitation regarding when a team signs a player from an opponent before/after an opponent is played. Trying to find the official NFL rule for this. I'll post it when found.

he's a good prospect but can't fault the steelers for not having him on the active roster. He's nowhere near ready to play and didn't win a job on special teams so there was no spot for him, especially when they have to have jarvis, dupree, harrison, moats and Chickillo active just to have the position covered.

If Dupree was healthy and had proven himself, then maybe they could have afforded to carry Freeney instead of Moats.

They might be able to get him back next year if the saints don't keep him.

Can probably sign UDFA or draft any number of LB prospects that will have an equal or higher upside in our system. He wasn't going to hit the field for us this season, no sleep lost over this. He seemed to be a very niche player for sub packages if on a 3-4 team.
