After a late night tweet from former teammate turned NFL Network analysis James Jones set the stage, the Steelers have officially signed Morgan Burnett. Burnett, who turned 29 in Jan., has spent the last eight seasons with the Packers. While with the Packers, Burnett has played both safety positions while starting 102 games. Ian Rapoport […]

At last an upgrade on defense. It's a start.

It may not make headlines, but I believe it is a solid upgrade over Mitchell. He may even be able to supplant Davis if it is needed at a later date.

It made our headlines and we are all that matters!

WOW. Great move. Burnett is a upgrade from Mitchell. 3 yrs, 14.5M

Looks like ILB is the target in round one now.

.....................................................tackle.........assist..........pas def.............
Mike Mitchell..................................203.............83................23..................

Morgan Burnett..............................259..............100..............21..................

These are last 4years combined, so you can see near same on field but Mitchell's numbers are
trending down. Burnett's seemed flat line but remember he was in a dispute with management
this last season in Green Bay. I think ther STEELERS did well here in more ways than one.

Salute the nation

LOL. Fake news.
we didnt sign anyone. we don't have a dime.
right, 21?

If we can get a starter caliber ILB in the 1st round, we just might have something brewing for this year. These 2 moves make me feel better and definitely looking forward to the draft.

These two moves mean the Steelers are set at every starting position entering the draft. Whether it is finding a young guy at ILB or S or drafting the BPA, the Steelers have a ton of options right now.

This definitely makes the defense better, though they still need someone other than Heyward to get to the QB consistently.

We were first in the league for Sacks per pass attempt.......

Yeah but when it counted the most, I think they arguably weren't at their best.

I think it would do them well to get one D player who could apply some added pressure.

Exactly they can go DE/OLBer/RB/WR as well as ILBer and FS. I hope they stay away from QB. But 6 positions is good for a BPA gameplan.

Nope, that Will be Sean Davis

Or bud Dupree..

I hope both have bounce back seasons. A new coach in the secondary shouldn't hurt, just wish we could say the same for the OLBers....

I think the Steelers sack numbers were inflated for various reasons.

One being that they really racked up the sacks against weak offenses. I believe they sacked Deshone Kizer around 10 times.

Secondly, Vince Williams and Mike Hilton had a dozen sacks between them.

That is not a negative in itself, but an ILB and DB having that many sacks implies a dependence on scheme to get to the QB.

More often than not, playoff caliber teams will negate that stuff.

Burnett should be solid.
He was pretty decent with the cheeseheads.

Comparisons to Lake though? Maybe Ryan Clark but more versatile.
This was a very solid signing. Finally

we brought back Joe Burnett?

I dont think the ILB sacks, necessarily, relied on "scheme" so much as the talent on the field. VW was able to get to the QB because of Shazier's talent. I havent looked, but I'm thinking his sacks dropped off quite a bit after Shaz's injury. Probably, his TFL, too.

Watt and Dupree had 7 and 6 sacks, respectively,

Other teams play ****** teams, too.
