So I keep hearing that there is a rule that says Coaches cannot be on the field but I have yet to see it ..

I tried to search and I could not find anything . What I did find was this article from 2012

http://www.cbssports.com/nfl/eye-on...-coaches-dont-go-on-the-field-during-the-game

Which was a warning to not go on the field from the NFL mainly because Harbaugh was always on the field ...

can someone please see if there was an OFFICIAL rule ??

thanks

Rule 13

Section 1 - Non-Player Conduct

Article 1. Non-Player Fouls

There shall be no unsportsmanlike conduct by a substitute, coach, attendant, or any other non- player (entitled to sit on a team’s bench) during any period or timeout (including between halves).

Note 1: “Loud speaker” coaching from the sidelines is not permissible.

Note 2: A player may communicate with a coach provided the coach is in his prescribed area during dead-ball periods.

Article 2. Team Attendants May Enter Field During Timeout

Either or both team attendants and their helpers may enter the field to attend their team during a team timeout by either team. No other non-player may come on the field without the Referee’s permission, unless he is an incoming substitute (5-2-2).

During any team timeout, all playing rules continue in force. Representatives of either team are prohibited from entering the field unless they are incoming substitutes, or team attendants or trainers entering to provide for the welfare of a player, and any game-type activities are prohibited on the Field of Play.

Looks like he was ok to be out there by the letter of the law.

Thanks !!

I do think that this is an UN enforced rule because of the article I posted ... if it was always enforced then I would think the article that was posed about Harbaugh would have been more explicit ... not "Just don't go on the field" LOL

what does the United Nations have to do with any of this?

LOL you are so funny

After the issue happened, the announcers/NFL rules official said the following:

When there is a hurt player, the coach and training staff are allowed on the field.

If the injury is serious in nature, other coaches and even players can come on the field to see how the player is doing, pray, wish him luck, etc.

AB had been down for a while so I would think his injury should be considered serious, thus allowing Porter to be on the field.

Not sure if this is a written rule or more of an accepted practice.

So the entire Joey on the field is a mute point .. LOL do you have a link to that statement

Dean Blandeano (sp) said tonight that there were many people on the field. He pointed out Bengal players running over toward Steeler sideline. He said if Porter was noticed, he should have been told to leave NOT given a penalty. That's from head of officiating folks!

This was on NFL network total access tonight.

This isn't like the nba where Joey was the only one who stepped on the court. The other team did as well, as ALL team players/coaches do in these situations. Fact remains, and it it is a fact. **** the bengals.

Yes it is a rule... yes every team has a ton of technical violations because the refs don't enforce it unless they specifically tell people to stay back... I will point out once more that Bengals COACHES were on the field during a few TV timeouts, during the injury time out for their RB and actually were involved in a scrum actually trying to settle their players down on the field as well.... The ONLY reason the bengals are bitching about porter is because they got caught and need someone to balme

There are way too many team players and personnel that it's really tough for a handful of refs to police the whole field. Blandino absolved them of any culpability. If Porter gets a fine it's only as appeasement to Cincinnati.

Porter being on the field did not cause a Bungle 15 yard penalty. Pacman Jones caused a 15 yard penalty.

No link but I was flipping between ESPN and NFL Network for an hour after the game. That is where I heard the explanation. It may also have been said by the on air rules official during the game.
