NFL investigating medical cart failure, Mason Rudolph walking off the field

PITTSBURGH — Mason Rudolph wobbled, then walked to the sideline with a yellow medical cart stuck on the field behind him.

Once he got to the Steelers bench area, it had to be pushed off the field. A backup cart arrived as the concussed quarterback was nearly down the tunnel.

Someone is going to lose their job, and possibly their license over this. It doesn’t matter what Rudolph said about walking. He was OUT COLD, that never should have been ALLOWED TO happened. The team lawyer should have been running onto the field to stop that ****.

In my OPINION, not a bit of difference. But to be honest, I have never watched anything UFC related, so I can’t comment on what I have not witnessed myself.

I have worked MANY HS games and a few College ones too. I have told many players to shut the **** up and let us do our job.

UFC guys never leave on a stretcher after being out cold, they are given time to recover then are helped out if need be, if there's no neck or spine injury, is there a need for a stretcher

As I said in another post... Look at the yellow cart. That is a regular gurney. They could have rolled him off the field on it.
They had a backup cart.
An ambulance in the tunnel apparently. I guess it can't go on the field. Might damage the turf.

The team doc gonna have a few tough questions to answer.

Like there wasn't another golf cart or something motorized anywhere else in the stadium so he wouldn't have been basically carried off the field. That was ridiculous and embarrassing for the Steelers since it is our home field. No excuse to have one medical cart without some kind of back up. ****, I bet the beer guy has his own golf cart to get around. Borrow his for pete's sake.

If Ben got fined for wearing an Apple Watch last week, you can bet the fine for this will be steep. Yet, AB still goes freeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!

That was my thought too. They only have one ******* cart?! What a horseshit outfit this has become.

Steelers’ Mason Rudolph just ‘wasn’t there’ after being knocked out cold by scary hit

The moment was terrifying, especially for Mason Rudolph’s teammates, who gathered around him as he lay on the turf at Heinz Field, knocked out cold on Sunday afternoon.

“His eyes were open and he was breathing, but he wasn’t there,” Alejandro Villanueva said (via the Post-Gazette) of Rudolph. “He wasn’t moving. I knew it was a medical emergency.”

Finally, after a few moments, the woozy quarterback helped off the field by Pittsburgh Steelers players and staffers. Compounding the frightening scene was the team’s inability to get the medical cart onto the field, a failure that left Rudolph to wobble off as fans and TV viewers watched.

The situation brought criticism from the NFL Players Association

Apparently UFC is a pretty liable organization not living in modern times imo... but beyond that there is a difference from a guy being out for a second then being able to walk off the field on his own and a guy being totally laid out and needing help to even get off the field. There was a potential for a neck pr spine injury there so you should be extra careful, especially when you cannot trust the player for coherent responses....

I have seen a few quotes that said there was a backup cart in the stadium.

Again - there was a perfectly good gureny on the cart. It has wheels and pops up to waist height. Its how it was done before stadiums had carts. Not everthing needs a motor.

****, they had backboard and two teams worth of football players with plenty of strong guys to help carry it. Plenty of fans too.

There was no need for him to hobble off the field even with help. I'd bet the guy didn't even know where he was.

Reminded me of a UFC fight where the guy is out cold on impact and then falls lifelessly to the mat. Really chilling to see this. I remember Ben being knocked out cold v the Falcons in 2006 and then playing like **** the next week v Oakland. I don't think Rudolph suits up this week. They should let him sit and give him the bye week to let his head get the proper rest.
 
Where's the Asian chick that Cowher hired? She wouldn't have let this **** go down the way it did.

NFL Radio last week was talking about Allen up in BUF. The last stage of protocol is to play a full practice and the last full practice is Friday. Most QB's in protocol aren't cleared to practice by Friday. I don't see MR being cleared to make pancakes before friday.

On another anecdotal note, my son took a concussion HS. We went through the protocol which included working with the head of neurology (for youth) in the state. That isn't normal protocol, he just happened to be our doc as his practice is local. Anyway, he told me that concussions are really funny things and symptoms can last for over a year or can clear out in a couple weeks. Prudent thing is whaty ou say - sit him through the bye week. I just hope he is symptom free by then.

I also though during the game that he may have a cracked his chin/jaw. I know he was talking a mile a minute, but that dude was gone to any reasonable cognitive thought.

Saw the NFL doesn't expect to suspend him a game. He says his intent wasn't to hurt. Great, I am fine with that. But that doesn't mean he shouldn't get a stiff penalty for the hit - intentional or no.

Really, he leaves his feet and launches himself helmet first into the QBs head, but his intent wasn't to hurt?
 
So, Bud Dupree makes the same kind of hit to Patrick Mahomes or Aaron Rodgers, are you going to tell me Bud is free and clear from knocking him out cold, using his helmet? Bull-freakin-****! The NFL is two-faced and talks out both sides of their mouth. I don't care what Earl Thomas says, the result of Mason out on the field unconscious tells everything you need to know. Are all QBs protected or just the Golden Boys?
 
What was Bud's fine when he nailed Wilson with the crown of his helmet vs Seattle?

I'm not saying that was or wan't his intent. I just recorded what the man said. My point was player intent shouldn't prevent a suspension and heavy fine.

A fist/knee vs the helmet and full bodyweight of an NFL linebacker moving with speed. The amount of force from the LB is going to be way greater than a fighter. I will say a knee to the face or liver could do some serious damage internally.


They should have put Mason on a damn stretcher with neck brace,stuck him on that cart and pushed it off with as many guys as it took. Then put him in an ambulance.

This has zero to do with the Steelers though, I've seen people blaming the Steelers for him not being on a stretcher, etc., etc. There's medical experts out there, they obviously thought there was no risk of further injury and they appear to be correct, he was at the offices today smiling visiting everyone.
