Has anybody pieced together an early 53 man roster prediction yet?* I put one together this morning just killing time.* A couple players I could change my mind about.* Or adjustments made if Players like Eli Rogers or Arthur Moats end up re-signed.* A few position groups I'm not too confident in my predictions.* Overall what are your thoughts?
QB - 3 (3)
Ben Roethlisberger
Landry Jones*
Mason Rudolph
QB is the ongoing debate of Steeler Nation, who will be cut, Dobbs or Landry?* I think we will see a mysterious injury bite Dobbs and we see him on the IR until next season when Landry's contract is up.
RB - 3 (6)
Le'Veon Bell
James Conner
Jaylen Samuels
This one I bounced around on as well.* It seems pretty straight forward but with Samuels versatility I could see them using him a lot in the slot, maybe taking a spot from the WRs and keeping Stevan Ridley to carry the ball.* But I'm sticking with the traditional 3 for now.
FB - 1 (7)
Roosevelt Nix
WR - 6 (13)
Antonio Brown
JuJu Smith-Schuster
James Washington
Justin Hunter
Marcus Tucker
Quadree Henderson
I can easily see Quadree cracking this roster if he develops into a threat at the WR position with his return skills.* Again, I could see this group changing if Eli Rogers recovers well and the Steelers decide to bring him back.* Another special teams ace that you will see later down this list pushed DHB further away from the roster.
TE - 3 (16)
Vance McDonald
Jesse James
Xavier Grimble*
Another group that has changed, I had Jake McGee challenging Grimble for the TE 3 spot as most did until he went down.* I want to see more of Christian Scottland-Williamson from the pratice squad.
C - 2 (18)
Maurkice Pouncey
B.J. Finney (Swing G/C)
OG - 2 (20)
David Decastro*
Ramon Foster
OT - 5 (25)
Marcus Gilbert
Alejandro Villanueva
Matt Fieler
Chukwuma Okorafor (Swing G/T)
Bryce Harris
Was Bryce Harris signed to take Jerald Hawkins place on the 53 or is he just a camp body?* I'm not confident in this but we will wait and see!* Expect to see Chuks and Finney as the primary backups with both of them being very versatile lineman.
DT - 2 (27)
Javon Hargrave
Joshua Frazier
DE - 4 (31)
Cameron Heyward
Stephon Tuitt
Tyson AluAlu
L.T. Walton
Another somewhat predictable position group. With more sub-packaging and Cam playing a lot of DT last year. Frazier was drafted to push big Dan who has never really came into his own. With the familiarity with the new DL coach Frazier has the upper hand on cracking the roster for now.
ILB - 5 (36)
Vince Villiams
Jon Bostic
Tyler Matakevich
Matthew Thomas
Farmington Huguenin
OLB - 4 (40)
T.J. Watt
Bud Dupree
Keion Adams
Anthony Chickillo
If they aren’t happy with the depth here, Moats could be brought back in for that extra veteran presence and his locker room personality. I foresee Keion Adams having a big impact on the team this year.
CB - 5(45)
Joe Haden
Artie Burns
Mike Hilton
Cameron Sutton
Brian Allen
S - 5 (50)
Morgan Burnett
Sean Davis
Terrell Edmunds
Nat Berhe
Marcus Allen
Nat Berhe is the one I have edging out DHB onto the roster. Another huge special teams piece. Berhe and Allen will most likely make their mark on special teams with Burnett and Davis getting most of the safety work with Edmunds in sub packages.
K - 1 (51)
Chris Boswell
P - 1 (52)
Jordan Berry
LS - 1 (53)
Kameron Canaday
QB - 3 (3)
Ben Roethlisberger
Landry Jones*
Mason Rudolph
