Roster Moves the Steelers Need to Win the Super Bowl

with a a better run blocking LG and continuaty at C rather than going between centers due to suspinsion and injury the run game will take loads of ben and having a security blanket te will open a ton up for juju on slants and deep crosses

extend cam, restructure haden, AJ MP

Yes, we spent AB's money last year on the players we brought in during free agency.

Stupid question....I assume ABs dead money is gone and that’s the only reason we have the cap space we do??
His dead money is off the books, but the club is still tight against the cap. But between Ben and Tuitt and either Decastro or Heyward we are tied up with over 60 million. Play with 3 contracts and you have enough for Bud's tag. If the new CBA comes about you can free up a whole **** load of money. I would tweak the 4 contracts mentioned. Release Foster and Chickillo and then go shopping.

Oh and the dead cap money isn't looking bad this year, only Mongriefs hit was significant. I think that was like 1.6/1.7 mil.

I have been thinking about our salary cap a little bit. It seems we are always up against it. As we have not won a playoff game in 10 of the last 14 seasons....not been to the postseason 2 years in a row, I am starting to wonder if KC is doing the bang up job a lot of us thinks he does. Yes he has had some good drafts, made some good trades, but what the hell do we have to show for it? It seems we have a highly paid team that can’t even get to the playoffs, never mind win them. Another question......in most sports the GM or head of football operations has the power to fire a coach. In the Steelers situation is it only the Rooney’s ?

Rooney's have that power only yes. KC has been hit and miss. Part of it is their approach of overpaying for their own which leaves them to scrape for free agency. They believe in building through the draft and holding onto their own. Part is winning just enough to pick low and often. Which brings us back to coaching and the draft. In between those two things they do well but not good enough.

Coaching has had enough talent to win it all but has come up short, for to long. MOST would have moved on but the ROONEYs are known for ridding out the storm. Carrying your friends along the way isn't the best coaching move either, especialy when they are UNDER performing. True, we are up against the cap but that best not be an excuse for the below the line coaching we have had along the way.

Salute the nation

Every team is against the cap. That's why there is a cap. Even teams that have space now, most will be using it before training camp. Only a handful of teams carry large amounts of cap space during a season, and those teams don't win.

I will state KC's $23M in cap space last year was an aberration. It's a young team and their franchise QB is on his rookie QB. This team, like most competitive teams, don't have cap space because they're paying their QB $25-$30M a season.

It may become the norm in the NFL that only young teams win superbowls, because vet teams can't afford more talent.

I don't get the Canaday thing. I don't recall one bad snap last year. That is too say I didn't see or don't remember. To me the definition of a good long snapper is not noticing him. What is this blame Canaday!!!!

While I agree with your comments,it still sucks when you are 31st out of 32 teams in available cap spending. Only the Vikings have less. I would expect to be right up against the cap if you have a winning team, make playoffs, win playoff games. Unfortunately we don’t have that team right now. Obviously the teams with their established QB’s on their first contact are going to have that advantage, and their time will come.

It is making me think about reconsidering my let’s sign Bud thoughts. And I have always been a fan of Bud’s. I always thought he had it in him, always thinking wait till next year. I don’t think last year was a fluke,he will be good next season as well. But what will resigning him mean to our future? Watt’s contract will be more important than Bud’s. And I get the feeling TJ’s contract will be in the top at least 3 of LB’s. And a certain ex Dolphins contract will be right up there as well. The only saving grace in our cap situation in a couple years is that we will probably have a rookie type contract for our new QB who ever that may be. What a vicious circle. No wonder KC likes one year contracts.

That only happens with exceptional talent at QB, mahomes, Ben, Manning. The fact there's been so few QBs worth real top 1st round grade when you take away the Ben/Eli/rivers class is prove that they are few and far between so hoping to win a SB with a QB in a rookie contract is maybe something that can happen twice a decade

I agree. I realize this is a fan site and don't have a problem with the initial post. I just do not think there are moves they can make to win a SB with this coaching staff and this roster with no first round pick and no FA Cap room. And before anyone ***** themselves about Minkah, he certainly was worth the trade. I just don't think they will be significantly better next year. Playoffs sure. More than one and done in the playoffs, maybe. SB. No way.
I'll challenge this...

The defense COULD POTENTIALLY be much better with Devin Bush playing in his second season. Same with Young Fitzpatrick (team-wise). Let that marinate...

Also, DJ just showed the tip of the iceberg with average QB's. IF we get 85% or better out of Ben and mix in the running game--- you're selling this team way short.

load depth on the OL retain bud, bring in competition for Edmunds and a #4 wr and 5 and by the time training camp is rolling on one of these vets maybe could be had for next to nothing
foles ( would likely want to go to contender is being reported jags may trade or cut him, which so much after 1 year left on his deal them getting a 6th in back to reataining his salary is the best)
Mariota
Keanum
Flacco

I from the fa list see fitz, dalton, bridge assured to get a short term gig to 2-3 years behind a raw rookie like herbert who may need a year to folish up things, burrows will fight via growing pains like the lousy ol and always coming from behind.
Flucco??? Hell no.

I know his age is a real factor, but with likely some of the best people in the world involved in his surgery and rehabilitation and Ben's natural superhuman strength, I wouldn't be surprised if what Colbert said the other day "we might see an even better Ben R." becomes true. But that is the optimistic homer in me.
This reminds me. Why haven't we seen a remake of the Six Million Dollar man yet???

Releasing Chick should already be OPTION #1...

I have heard rumblings it is happening but as the 6 billion $ man, 6 million is a normal long term hospital stay anymore.

Its under production for Netflix. But to get under the idea of six million it had to be an illegal in Cleveland at a public hospital. Val Kilmer is playing Steve Austin, but his name is Steve Sanchez.
