Roster Moves a Comin'

Dobbs or Hoyer, if your starting QB was injured for a game and you need a win?
As a Vols fan, having seen Dobbs since his first start at Tennessee, and watching his progress ... I'll take Hoyer.

We kind of had that scenario last year with the Faders and we saw how that went. When Ben was in the game he had 2 Tds and a 130 passer rating. Dobbs against the same defense had a 12 passer rating. Along with 24 yards passing and his 4 of 9 comp.

That and he looks almost as bad in pre-season against vanilla defenses. I don't understand the point in keeping him. Seriously, besides his running around what does he bring that someone else can't? Makes no sense to me.

This is why Spencer was my #1 choice. He plays all the WR spots, and is a top returner. Denver got a very good player. Holton makes sense, and will be on this roster, but I hate losing the potential of Spencer. I would have kept him over Switzer, but I know I'm probably a minority there.

Not sure who the Steelers should pick up at TE, I'm just saying any addition is better than Gentry, and if CSW was healthy this preseason, he would have made this roster. He's really improved this year, and his blocking is getting good.

Also I updated the spreadsheet, only 3 players eligible to be IRed. Layne, Chick, Ola. No chance they IR Davis.
From what I read during training camp his hands were very suspect and it shown some during preseason. They saw holton as a safer choice

Not in the minority with me Cope. I would have thought they would have tried to protect Spencer and risk, Gentry. They should have either not showcased him on end arounds or returns and gone by what they saw in practice only, to try and keep him a secret. Like you said he is a multi facetted WR and above average in the return game. I like Switzer but he is not a potential game breaker. Holton at least has big play capability with Ben throwing as I deem him above average chucking the deep ball. I guess I can take solace that we saved some decent LB prospects but I think they will regret losing Spencer...

Btw, this is an interesting tidbit. Kelly has been very impressive from what I've seen of him. Perhaps a changing of the guard at FS is on the horizon? Or is this just a short term thing due to Davis injury. We'll see.

Well, he converted the 3rd and long play in Baltimore to salt the game away when Ben got knocked out for a play. So that was a win he had a big part in.

I am one who has suggested Switz would be on the roster over Rogers, but I am not enamored with him. I think size is a real issue for him. I don't know that Spencer was better or worse or same...I just haven't seen enough snaps with him. That said, sometimes the team goes with the devil they know over the one they don't know.

DId you get to see CSW outside of games? Wish I had gone to camp...he would have been one I would have watched a bit. It would be a nice story to see him go from from rugby star to active NFL player.

I didn't go to camp. I read Kozora's Camp Diary, and it is very comprehensive. He was gushing over CSW. Tomlin was chirping words of encouragement and he was hitting the sleds with a noticeable pop this year, as opposed to just putting a shoulder in them. Also was doing well in the TE vs LB comps and blocking drills. He started game 2 of the preseason, and got hurt on the 2nd drive. Gentry came it, scored the TD and that is why he is on the roster. Personally, I'd be happier with Rader over Gentry, but that's just me.

Would you do this trade? Dobbs for Mo Allie-Cox TE Indy?

Was a rumor started Pops likes Mo Cox. Who am I to judge? Who started the rumor? Me just right now. On the serious side Mo wasn't ultra productive when he did start. But to get anything for Dobbs might be a win at this point.

No he didn't. It was 2nd down and 20 and it wasn't to salt the game away. It was the start of the 4th Qtr. The rats got the ball back twice after that drive and the game ended when they couldn't convert a 4th down.

I doubt a minority in that regards Cope. Spence had a little more power / speed / decisiveness and body than Switzer. The times I watched Spencer, he just looked more NFL, speed and a thinking man's runner. His vision seemed better but then I'm only seeing it on TV where as the coaching saw it up close .
