Roster cuts

If anyone has been on this site for a short amount of time, they will see that Tomlin bashing can begin in any thread, regardless of said criticism relating to the topic. Those who must go out of their way to attack Tomlin will make up any connection to the topic they need to so they can can continue their constant bashfest

This still amazes me 10 years in.

S Jacob Hagen, DT Devaunte Sigler, and CB Kevin White all cut

How did this become a Tomlin thread?

Somewhere along the way Clete(had to put ya on blast bud) bashed ole' Mikey. Although I agree with some points Clete made, I'm still a supporter of the head guy in charge. Just keeping it real here homie

Kevin White cut? Hmm. What's the plan at DB and safety now???

1. Cockrell
2. Burns
3. Gay
4. Grant
5. ???

I figure Mitchell should pair with Davis, but, Davis may have to play DB at #5. Golden may stick at SS...

Golden is the starting SS and has been running there since the spring

I hate Tomlin's stupid position flexibily **** that never has worked and has hurt our depth for years. Hard to get excited about a dumb coach that has one playoff win in the last 6 years and that was to a backup QB where a gift fumble saved us from another loss. Tomlin has wasted Ben's prime years and when Ben's career is over it will be a sore spot for Steeler fans as we wait for another franchise QB to fall in our laps every 35 years or so . By the way, go back to your pom poms and suck off the stupidity that is Tomlin, much easier to do than to look at his record and see that he has done **** since Cowher's players left and while the Pats and others continuously rebuild and keep winning playoff games we keep hoping the Jets will throw 2 4th quarter interceptions in the season finale to let us back into the playoffs and fail to do **** year after year despite having a loaded roster. Talk about annoying, Tomlin is a mediocre coach whose lousy playoff record the last 6 years is a direct reflection on his lack of intelligence and football acumen. Oh well another 9-7 or 10-6 season and no playoff wins, thank God for the football cool shades , wiill make another year of wasdting Ben's prime much more palatable for Tomlin's supporters.

Listen, I'm as hard on Tomlin as anybody (well, maybe not as hard as you), but I'm trying to think about it this way: It's ******* difficult to win the Super Bowl, man. Yes, the Steelers have had enough talent to do so more than once in the past nine years. Yes, I agree with you about many of Tomlin's shortcomings. Yes, Ben is running out of time. However, the fact remains that they only crown ONE champion out of 32 teams every season.

Look at New Orleans. I've always liked the Saints (as my "NFC team"), and I've thought Sean Payton was a pretty good head coach for them. He's had Drew Brees in the prime of his career for nine years, too. Guess what he's got: A good regular season record: 87-57. A good playoff record: 6-4, with some disappointing losses. 4 non-playoff seasons. 1 Super Bowl win. Sounds a whole lot like ol' Mikey's line, doesn't it? 92-52. 6-5 in the playoffs with some disappointing losses. 3 non-playoff seasons. 1 Super Bowl win.

Now, obviously, we don't follow the Saints as closely as the Steelers, but I've seen Payton make some questionable decisions during games here and there...I'm sure if we scrutinized his work as closely as we do Tomlin's, I might have a much different opinion of him.

I'm going to continue to criticize Tomlin this season for sure, and I'm not telling you what to do, but I hope this perspective helps you to lighten up on the guy a just a little. Try and enjoy the season.

Some interesting cuts today:

Pierre Desir (CB) was released by the Browns. He was a 4th round pick in 2014. Some here like him. Has length and play experience.

Jordan Tripp (LB) was released by Jacksonville. Was a 5th rounder in 2014 but bounced from Miami to Jacksonville already. Small school guy (like Desir) but thought he could stick as an ILB type. Has good size and athleticism.

Khaled Holmes (C) was released by the Bears. Was a 4th rounder in 2013. Has 9 starts. Played at USC. Might be restricted to only being a center and that is hurting his chance to find a roster spot. Needed to bulk up more or might be a better fit for zone blocking team.

Justin Hunter (WR) was released by the Titans. Was a 2nd round pick in 2013. Has great size (6'-4") and was a 1000 yard receiver in college for Tennessee. Averaged 16.4 ypc in pros.

Bishop Sankey (RB) was released by the Titans. Might be a casualty of numbers. Another 2nd round pick dumped by the Titans (this one in 2014). Can be a decent 3rd down back and kick returner in a pinch. I think he gets picked up pretty fast.

Note Aaron Murray, QB (previously mentioned in thread) has been released by the Chiefs. I'm not very high on him and think Mettenberger is a better talent as a 3rd stringer.

I wonder if Khaled Holmes would look good in a Steelers uni? Given Pouncey's health at center. Khaled is also Polamalu's brother in law. So maybe...just maybe a little reference

I'm saying it. Timmons would be an 8 million dollar cap savings. There will be other players (good player toward end of their career) cut for cap reasons. If you could get a good corner in exchange for Timmons salary you would be ahead. They are so thick at ILB, this move should have been made a long time ago. They could have had one of the really good corners in FA had they made this move.

So I guess we make the roster move with Golson and bring someone back or pick up someone else......

Thought Grant/Shabazz would be in line for the final DB spot, but then the Gilbert trade happened.

Johnson the only semi-surprise to me off that list, we rarely cut FAs we just signed...he was merely a ST ace though and we were very deep in the depth battle at MLB with Red, Fort and him all fighting for the final 1-2 spots. Glad Red made the cut!

Now on to replacing Grimble with a legit TE and filling a roster spot once we IR Golsen and ride off to #7

HERE WE GO STEELERS!!!

Put Grant on the PS
