I had high hopes for Zumwalt when we drafted him. Shame, he just always seemed to be injured.

Nothing major yet.

Too bad about Jerald Hawkins. His injury doesn't require surgery so he likely could play this year, but being behind on rookie reps and having a convenient injury to stash him on IR for the season was too good for the organization to pass up. I think he could be a really good right tackle and maybe even fill in the roll of swing tackle backup by year 2-3 in his rookie deal.

Yep, red shirt year and this also gives them an opportunity to keep another young player they like.

yeah - nothing shocking there, next one

Sept. 3: Clubs must reduce rosters to a maximum of 53 players on the Active/Inactive List by 4 p.m.

I think I read this was the 4th straight year a rookie went on IR ? maybe it was 3rd

anyways other than this

no surprises.

I just wonder who will be brought in on the tail end of cuts. And will any of the we think will make it don't and vice versa

stay tuned !

looks like it was a labrum tear

Hawkins came out a year too early anyhow... Im very cool with an ir redshirt season rather than cutting the dude midseason for a vet scrub as is our occasional practice with developmental guys..

I Thought Hawkins might go to IR. Now we don't have to keep 4 tackles.

We are keeping Tomlin's favorite the POS Hubbard, he will be our 4th tackle and top backup guard and tackle on game days. he is position flexible and sucks at all of them, typical Tomlin move,

I hate Tomlin's stupid position flexibily **** that never has worked and has hurt our depth for years. Hard to get excited about a dumb coach that has one playoff win in the last 6 years and that was to a backup QB where a gift fumble saved us from another loss. Tomlin has wasted Ben's prime years and when Ben's career is over it will be a sore spot for Steeler fans as we wait for another franchise QB to fall in our laps every 35 years or so . By the way, go back to your pom poms and suck off the stupidity that is Tomlin, much easier to do than to look at his record and see that he has done **** since Cowher's players left and while the Pats and others continuously rebuild and keep winning playoff games we keep hoping the Jets will throw 2 4th quarter interceptions in the season finale to let us back into the playoffs and fail to do **** year after year despite having a loaded roster. Talk about annoying, Tomlin is a mediocre coach whose lousy playoff record the last 6 years is a direct reflection on his lack of intelligence and football acumen. Oh well another 9-7 or 10-6 season and no playoff wins, thank God for the football cool shades , wiill make another year of wasdting Ben's prime much more palatable for Tomlin's supporters.

I blame it more on 1) keeping Lebeau too long and 2) drafting **** players on defense, both of which are more attributable to Colbert, but whatever, that's another discussion.

Gheez, why don't you tell us how you really feel.

You mean like when Tomlin was so pumped up that Jarvis Jones was so bad at his pro day that they stole one of the top 6 special players in the class ? Every time Tomlin opens his mouth more bullshit spews out just reimforcing his lack of football knowledge. The guy is a phony and a mediocre coach but damn he tries so hard to be cool and different with all his non sequiturs globally speaking.

The defensive shift in philosophy is all in Tomlin, he likes quick smaller players and of course for an alleged DB guru he has done a piss poor job of both evaluating and developing DBs, sad. Of course his only year as a DC in the NFL his Vikings defense was last in pass defense.

Team had a solid year last year, no matter how much Tomlin annoys yinz.

They are mixing things up on D, that should be a plus not a negative...

that's Greek to me

I'd love to see a test of Tomlin's football knowledge compared to yours.

I hope not. Hubbard is awful. Finney is better, he's not as versatile.

I'll never understand Tomlin's infatuation with bad players who give a good effort but get terrible results.

Examples: Landry & Jarvis Jones, Blake ( last year ) and Hubbard. He loves Ventrone too, but at least he adds something on special teams.

Ya know, Uncle Jarvis looked pretty spry out there in the last pre-season game, I'll withhold judgement till the regular season, but being a Steeler fan and all, I hope the kid turns it around and shows us something. I know bums like Timmons, Shazier, and Dupree show how horrible this team is at picking Linebackers, but hey, let's just see how they did with this one. Oh, and that ****** Vince Williams, man, what a dumpster fire that guy has been too.

And don't even get me started on how horrible we are at WR Talent, I mean who is that scrub we wasted a 6th round pick on again, Brown or some ****? I mean, **** man.

Joe

The shift to quicker rangier, more diverse players was the smartest move we could have done. The league switched to a passing league with super quick TEs and pass catching RBs. The fact that we were ahead of the curve in rebuilding this defense, instead of playing catchup to a league that's already gotten faster on O, is a boon, not a detriment.

Your reasoning works for the slow plodding power game of 10-20 years ago, but the game is different today.
