Rooney: Steelers ‘Pretty comfortable’ with their QBs

the last couple years rooney was pretty pleased with almost making the playoffs. so his view on our situation at qb doesnt really surprise me.

In the last 30 years the QB's that won the SB who weren't marquees guys were:
Hostetler: He WAS the *****
Mark Rypien- Who was pretty damn good. Certainly not franchise or HOF in my opinion.
Dilfer: Worse than Hosteler
Brad Johnson- Game manager
Flacco- When he won it, he looked like a marquee, franchise guy.
Foles- Played like a franchise guy in that run.
Everyone else in the last 30 years is either a clear franchise guy HOF possibility like Eli and Wilson or better. So you could use a stop gap guy like Rivers and maybe make the playoffs, but all you are doing is delaying the inevitable and reducing the likelihood of getting your franchise future.

not with this rooney

We went 3 years out of the playoffs under Cowher, and that included 2 losing seasons, and the only ones talking about a coaching change were certain fans. That string was going to have to either reach about 5 years, or be punctuated with a disastrous season (think 4-12). That's how the Rooneys operate, and nothings changed. The past 50 years say they know what they're doing.

Roll out the carpet for Landry Jones when the XFL season is over.

Well if Ben is healthy for next season....I would be comfortable also....Aside from Ben....well.....

3 playoff wins in 10 years show they really know what they're doing. just think its one better than the cowboys

if your response is anything else, you sign Kirk Cousins for $30M per year and hope.

I'm pretty comfortable with my underpants - doesn't mean I'm not going to change them, probably sometime this week actually...

I don't care for that mindset either, but I don't think Mason is the answer of post-Ben. If that's the case, this team needs a real, viable solution because Father Time is knocking on Ben's alarm clock. Another 8-8 season gets us what? No PO and another #18-21 spot in the draft. To get our next guy, we need a Top 10 pick.

OR

Possibly a complete coaching overhaul.

Salute the nation

Without a HOF QB and the money to bring in or keep their own players in the late 90's

They were also “comfortable” with Kent Graham lol

Yeah. If Tombert can be blasted for ignoring the offensive line at times, no reason why Cowher/Donahoe should get a pass for their lack of effort to bring in a quarterback, the most important position on the field. Hell, Bill was ready to pass on Ben to take Shawn Andrews. Anyone who saw Neil's pathetic performance against Buffalo in the 92 playoffs should have known that he wasn't championship material. Considering that we wasted our number one pick the next year on Deon Figures, maybe we should have sent it to the 49ers for Joe Montana. Yeah, he didn't get KC over the hump. but we had a better team than KC. I'll bet Joe Montana wouldn't have lost to SD at home. Went back and watched that game on Youtube. I'd take Tommy Maddox over Neil all day. He'd have never led that comeback against Cleveland.

Cowher wasn't ready to take Ben, there's an article here somewhere showing that Colbert was in the Andrews camp not Cowher.
Ummm we couldn't afford the contract Montana signed with KC. As a matter of fact, you ***** about no QB's, who should we have brought in considering we didn't have the money to keep our own players until Heinz Field pretty much, let alone bring in a QB.

it will be interesting to see what condition ben's condition is in. the way the offensive line underperformed, with the receiver corp stinking it up, combined with the outdated short, stupid, bubble screen passing game plan, no running game, hard to say if ben along could have put us in the playoffs and depending on his arm if he can in '20. he couldn't the year before and he passed for 5k. were are probably looking at a total offense rebuild. that being the case a) does he want to be around for that b) do the steelers want him around for that. 1) with his salary makes it impossible to rebuild 2) won't be around when offense is finally rebuilt. im not really a Colbert hater but his decisions last few yrs were based on fact he and Rooneys believed that with ben, steelers were but a couple players away from deep playoff runs. with munch gone along with our blocking and so is much of our offense that is no longer the case. defense is better no doubt, but still can't hold a lead or win big games by itself. watch the Arizona Super Bowl game where cards took the ball right down the field and could and shoulda won the game but for ben's heroics. the more things change more they stay the same in WPA. I say right now going into draft, free agency best qb on roaster ready to suit up is TJ Barrett. duck sucks he wouldn't even have started on a good college team last year, he NEVER should have started for us. we can argue over Rudy but he was rated worse in NFL last year and played like it. so I don't know what the Rooneys are thinking or even if they are. reminds me of most family owned businesses "head in the sand" decision making process lol. go steelerssss
