SteelerInLebanon,
- Harrison will likely retire, that takes away our sack leader. Who replaces that? a rookie we draft at the bottom of the 1st? Nobody we currently have is going to pick up that slack. We know that.
Harrison has stated he is not done. Dupree looks like a possible star in the making, Chickillo is serviceable. Need a high pick here. **** JJ.
- We need another cover corner - Golson should have been on a bus after he was declared useless earlier this season. You just KNOW he's going to get hurt again, probably in the shower. Drop him like a bad habit. Gay has been alright, but he's getting older and we need some fresh legs.
I think we could see significant growth out of the corners we have particularly in learning to play together and trust better. Ghoulson is a huge question mark but also a huge oppurtunity if he can stay on the field. Same with Gilbert if he does well in training camp he could make a difference. Burns will get better I think Cockrell will as well but not as much as Burns. Gay is on the down slope of his career we could use an upgrade there.
- Mitchell isn't getting any younger either. It wouldn't hurt if we had somebody in mind for his replacement. We already know that Shamarko is dumb as a box of rocks so he isn't the answer.
this is one of the pieces we need.
- On the positive side, if Heyward comes back completely healthy, we could have a pretty solid defensive line next year. Of course that will only encourage Butler and Tomlin to play the corners 15 yards deep...
Agreed
On to the offensive side of the ball.
- Bryant is a giant question mark. He may come back. But will he remain? We don't know. We remember the things he did well, but we forget that he was also highly inconsistent. His greatest strength was that he drew some coverage away from Brown. That IS a bonus. But again, he has to be ON the team. We'll see how that goes.
I am an optimist here. I hope he has learned and grown.
- If Wheaton comes back, that's great. He's pretty good. Not great, but serviceable. He makes some catches and runs decent routes. I think Ben trusts him more or less.
I think Rogers and Ayers and maybe Hamilton with a year of expereince and another training camp could all be good. again I am an optimist here.
- Rogers I believe has shown significant improvement this year. He would be a fine #3 or #4.
Se above
So if ALL the pieces come together, we'd have a decent receiving corps next year. Not a world beater corps but a decent one.
I disagree that they can't be world beaters all depends on Bryant.
- As for the Tight Ends - We've got James and Grimble. They're fine. They aren't going to change the world, but they're ok. We can't get rid of Green fast enough. Unless One of you is willing to dig some cash out of your wallet to pay the guy to sit on the bench and pop advil.
- I don't know how much longer D'Angelo Williams has left. He's as good a backup as you could ask for. Toussaint is mediocre at best but I suppose we can ride with that for a year.
Agreed need to find another RB
- They DO need to start scouting for a QB in the next couple years. I can't imagine they'll find anything soon. That's the problem. A guy like Ben comes along once every 30 or so years for a franchise if you're lucky.
Agreed
So, you can see why I'm a bit sad. The team itself is not completely devoid of talent. They have some great players, although they tend to be a bit injury prone. However with the coaching and the utter failure of those players to execute at gametime - I just don't see it.
Look at it this way. It took a minor miracle for this team to get as far as it did this year. And they got ******* destroyed by a fairly ****** P*ts team after squeaking by an offensively anemic KC team and a Miami team with a backup QB with a concussion. How the **** are they going to get back next year with all the question marks and the full-retard coaching they got going on right now?
Take your time. Tomlin's got 3 full timeouts left for you to consider.
