Roethlisberger tells it like it is - Tomlin has no answers...

I wanna agree with Drink Iron City, but Brown was double/triple teamed and groped like a tsa pat down all game. The pats were sending in two DB's to knock Brown on his ***

Then why didn't he talk to Haley and get put in motion to detract that????? Receivers need to communicate and maybe he did but no excuse for disappearing and he has disappeared in other games too. AB is a very good WR but he needs to play like one full time. Is he side tracked with the facebook thingy??? Was he proving a point to CMT about discipline?? To many what ifs for us to know the whole story here other than he disappeared.

Every team does this, but I'm not sure they do it to the extent New England does. You have to wonder if Roethlisberger (who has to remember the choice routes of EVERY receiver), Brown, Rogers, Coates, Bryant, Wheaton, et. al. are only capable of remembering TWO routes. That's not a slight on our guys. Most teams, quarterbacks and wide receivers probably run TWO different routes out of choices based on coverage.

You see a lot of times when Ben gives that look that a receiver ran the wrong route, so you may be onto something. That also was the biggest loss with Heath Miller this year. AB may have gotten all of the targets, but Ben and Heath were always on the same wavelength. Their chemistry was unreal and when you watched the two in camp, it was easy to understand why. The attention to detail was there.

We're looking at a bleak situation.

The receiving corps, once a huge strength is now a complete wreck. Jesse James seems pretty solid. I'm actually fairly impressed with him, but still I see him as about 75% of a Heath and let's face it, Heath was always more of a blocking TE than a receiving TE. I mean, he could catch, but he was really more of a super athletic guard.

Martavis may or may not come back next year. He has to apply for reinstatement. And then he has to go through regular testing. Does he pass? We don't know...

Wheaton and Rogers seem to be alright. Perhaps they can help next year. Ayers might turn into an emergency guy. Coates could provide some trade value if somebody is dumb enough to take him.

Defensively I actually think we have some players but Butler is too ******* stupid to use them in a manner that is likely to be successful against upper echelon teams. And I suspect Harrison will finally retire and I do wish him well. He's a total stud and I hate for him to go out this way. But still, he is the Steeler's Sack Leader and that's something to be damn proud of.

So many needs on this team. Sigh. Another couple quality cornerbacks after we drop Golson. Another Running back. Some help on the O-line, obviously another Outside Linebacker. A TE after we send Green on his way.

...and still some people are shocked that Ben dropped the "retirement" bomb this week. The Steelers have issues, and I think they need to start over with a new coaching staff... top to bottom. "but, but how do you fire a coach that just got you to the AFCCG???"

Easy: "We expect better, we're moving on. Thanks for the memories...we'll send your stuff"

Wow! Just Wow! Wig I almost think we follow a different team. I think despite some issues at the end we are at most a a couple players away and maybe just maybe a a defensive coordinator away.

If our top 3 WR's (AB, Bryant and Rogers) are healthy next year, the O will be very dangerous and much better than this year. That also assumes Ben and Bell are healthy and no major injuries to the o-line.

Bryant will stretch the field and make more consistent long catches. Rogers proved to be dangerous in the slot as he finally got to play and got better as the year went along.

One mock I just saw has us taking Ju Ju Smith from USC in the 2nd round. I would take that pick. Dude is 6-2 and around 220. He can run, catch and he goes up and gets contested balls. He would push Coates right off the team unless Bryant doesn't come back.

SteelerInLebanon,

- Harrison will likely retire, that takes away our sack leader. Who replaces that? a rookie we draft at the bottom of the 1st? Nobody we currently have is going to pick up that slack. We know that.

- We need another cover corner - Golson should have been on a bus after he was declared useless earlier this season. You just KNOW he's going to get hurt again, probably in the shower. Drop him like a bad habit. Gay has been alright, but he's getting older and we need some fresh legs.

- Mitchell isn't getting any younger either. It wouldn't hurt if we had somebody in mind for his replacement. We already know that Shamarko is dumb as a box of rocks so he isn't the answer.

- On the positive side, if Heyward comes back completely healthy, we could have a pretty solid defensive line next year. Of course that will only encourage Butler and Tomlin to play the corners 15 yards deep...

On to the offensive side of the ball.

- Bryant is a giant question mark. He may come back. But will he remain? We don't know. We remember the things he did well, but we forget that he was also highly inconsistent. His greatest strength was that he drew some coverage away from Brown. That IS a bonus. But again, he has to be ON the team. We'll see how that goes.

- If Wheaton comes back, that's great. He's pretty good. Not great, but serviceable. He makes some catches and runs decent routes. I think Ben trusts him more or less.

- Rogers I believe has shown significant improvement this year. He would be a fine #3 or #4.

So if ALL the pieces come together, we'd have a decent receiving corps next year. Not a world beater corps but a decent one.

- As for the Tight Ends - We've got James and Grimble. They're fine. They aren't going to change the world, but they're ok. We can't get rid of Green fast enough. Unless One of you is willing to dig some cash out of your wallet to pay the guy to sit on the bench and pop advil.

- I don't know how much longer D'Angelo Williams has left. He's as good a backup as you could ask for. Toussaint is mediocre at best but I suppose we can ride with that for a year.

- They DO need to start scouting for a QB in the next couple years. I can't imagine they'll find anything soon. That's the problem. A guy like Ben comes along once every 30 or so years for a franchise if you're lucky.

So, you can see why I'm a bit sad. The team itself is not completely devoid of talent. They have some great players, although they tend to be a bit injury prone. However with the coaching and the utter failure of those players to execute at gametime - I just don't see it.

Look at it this way. It took a minor miracle for this team to get as far as it did this year. And they got ******* destroyed by a fairly ****** P*ts team after squeaking by an offensively anemic KC team and a Miami team with a backup QB with a concussion. How the **** are they going to get back next year with all the question marks and the full-retard coaching they got going on right now?

Take your time. Tomlin's got 3 full timeouts left for you to consider.

SteelerInLebanon,

Harrison has stated he is not done. Dupree looks like a possible star in the making, Chickillo is serviceable. Need a high pick here. **** JJ.

I think we could see significant growth out of the corners we have particularly in learning to play together and trust better. Ghoulson is a huge question mark but also a huge oppurtunity if he can stay on the field. Same with Gilbert if he does well in training camp he could make a difference. Burns will get better I think Cockrell will as well but not as much as Burns. Gay is on the down slope of his career we could use an upgrade there.

- Mitchell isn't getting any younger either. It wouldn't hurt if we had somebody in mind for his replacement. We already know that Shamarko is dumb as a box of rocks so he isn't the answer.

this is one of the pieces we need.

Agreed

I am an optimist here. I hope he has learned and grown.

- If Wheaton comes back, that's great. He's pretty good. Not great, but serviceable. He makes some catches and runs decent routes. I think Ben trusts him more or less.

I think Rogers and Ayers and maybe Hamilton with a year of expereince and another training camp could all be good. again I am an optimist here.

- Rogers I believe has shown significant improvement this year. He would be a fine #3 or #4.

Se above

So if ALL the pieces come together, we'd have a decent receiving corps next year. Not a world beater corps but a decent one.

I disagree that they can't be world beaters all depends on Bryant.

- As for the Tight Ends - We've got James and Grimble. They're fine. They aren't going to change the world, but they're ok. We can't get rid of Green fast enough. Unless One of you is willing to dig some cash out of your wallet to pay the guy to sit on the bench and pop advil.

Agreed need to find another RB

I don't think we have a huge difference in takes, just a big difference in where they are headed.
Every team is facing similar issues it is not like we are the only ones with question marks. I just tend to be much more optimisitc in where the young people on this roster are going than you i guess.

SteelerInLebanon, I honestly feel like the Golson experiment has run it's course. I can see giving a guy some time if he's done something for the organization and earned some loyalty. But this guy has literally never played meaningful down for the team. We have a completely raw rookie who's been paid for 2 years now, coming on 3. They'll need to consider re-signing him soon. I wouldn't be surprised if that nut job doesn't want a larger contract. In fact, because he's no longer a "rookie" he undoubtedly must be paid a larger contract. And honestly, that makes zero sense to me.

I also am an optimist. I truly want Bryant to come back and push Brown. I'd love to see them challenge one another to reach new extraordinary heights. I understand though that he has some pretty serious addiction issues. So I will hold off to see how that goes. I do believe Rogers has evolved nicely. I still think, all things considered he's a medium talent receiver, but if Brown and Bryant are drawing top tier coverage, Rogers can excel.

If Harrison comes back, that would be GREAT. I love me some James Harrison!

I think Dupree is quite solid. And I really like Shazier. Timmons is steady at what he does. If used properly I think he's great. All in all, as long as they can stay healthy ( a big if) I think the linebacking group is pretty darn good.

In the end though, I have very serious concerns about the coaching and ultimately the player execution. See it always comes down to either the game-planning and preparation is poor, or the players are executing badly. It's either got to be one of those or both of them. It can't be neither. And so, We have a critical problem. This team is either very badly coached at critical times or they play for **** at critical times. Or both if you prefer.

I don't know how they're going to fix that well enough to advance before Ben retires and when Ben retires - well... That will be that.
