Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver, JuJu Smith-Schuster definitely won me over (if he hadn’t already) when he re-signed with the team earlier this off-season vs. signing elsewhere for more money. His charismatic energy would’ve been something that was truly missed had he decided to leave the Steel City. As the second week of OTA’s commence, this is something that future Hall of Fame quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger has readdressed and has been very vocal about:

“Yeah, I was really excited to get JuJu back. I felt like I was in his ear and in Coach [Mike] Tomlin’s ear a lot during that process over the last 12 to 24 hours of JuJu signing back here. You know to have a familiar face and a guy that brings so much to this team, is there a guy in the NFL that on 3rd and medium or short, you want the ball in his hands as much as JuJu? I don’t know that I can think of one.”

Roethlisberger continued as he expressed his admiration for the amount of value Smith-Schuster brings to not only the team, but the entire city of Pittsburgh:

“The passion that he gives to this city, to this team to help us win is awesome. As young as he is, he’s the leader of that group [wide receivers]. That’s a young receiver group.”

I think JuJu has made strides in maturity year in and year out. This off-season being the most. He continually seems to be the practice work horse and tough guy. He has a way of people noticing and looking up to him.

This is his 5th season so he isn't young in football years but young in age years. He will grow and continue to shine

That's great and all, but I'll be a little happier when he leads by example on the football field by not ******** on the opposing team's symbol.

Remember another guy who pulled that stupid ****?

I wouldn't compare JuJu to TO - not even close. JuJu isn''t an *******. He's just out there having fun. I am glad he's back on the team and I hope they give him a long-term deal for whatever he shows again this year. Dude is young but is tough as nails and is as reliable as any receiver on the team. If Deontae has the dropsies again this year, it will be an easy decision to end up giving JuJu a long-term deal before him and then Claypool.

I'm not comparing the two as actual people, I'm merely comparing the antics. And I like JuJu, I just hope he knocks that **** off.

JuJu is still young, but you're right, he's as tough as nails. I love the chip he plays with, as close to a Hines Ward that they've had IMO.

I have a feeling he is done with the logo ****. With free agency not resulting in what he ultimately wanted we will see the best Juju possible. With an eye to the future which is but a year away.

That is my sentiment and with that "looking forward" he has / will be way more mature about his antics. Someone from with-in talked to him, probably the Veteran players and said this is why you don't do that ****........ it makes them play harder and we have to overcome that to win.

OR

the Veteran "captain (cam)" said Quit that **** or I'll ******* pile drive yaz............... !!!

Am I glad JuJu chose to resign with the Steelers for Ben’s presumable going away tour- hell yeah! He did right by the team.

It was definitely a calculated move though.
He took his time and realized that if he gives up just a couple million this year he stands to gain far more next year than he would’ve in the other situations.

He’ll be a featured player in a pass first offense, an offense he knows so that he can hit the ground running (putting up stats for that next contract), he’ll likely more than make that money back in endorsements, he becomes even more beloved in a city that worships its Steelers and he’ll be hitting free agency next year with a team that will have more cap space to operate with than it has had in a decade (or 2?)...a team that has a history of being loyal to a fault to its players where he will likely receive an offer for more than he is worth because of this action of cutting the Steelers a break in a time of need. It was a calculated move to maximize his career earning potential.

Who else is supposed to lead the wide receivers? JuJu's in his fifth NFL season, and he's been the senior member of the group for quite some time now.
