PITTSBURGH, PA – Entering his 15th season,*Steelers‘ all-pro quarterback Ben Roethlisberger says he’s still trying to find the balance between rest and preparation before training camp begins. “It’s a fine line I walk at this age, of resting and getting my body enough rest for the season and working out to prepare,” said Roethlisberger. “You’ve […]

Makes sense if your body says slow down, you might want to listen.

But when it recovers, then it is full steam ahead...

Yeah, makes sense, and judging by photos from OTAs, he looks like he's doing it right.

Can't be easy tryin' to balance a couple youngin's, family life, preparing for another season of football and a persistent media and fan base. I know if it was me and I had the money he already has, that golf course beckoning would be deafening.

If you under do it you have to catch up or risk a slow start. If you overdo it you risk injury. And when you are older you simply are more prone to injury, and have less of a recovery time. So your balance act year 1 compared to year ten I am sure comes with adjustments.

From a non football standpoint when I was last on the pipeline I saw the difference. Slow to recover from a injury standpoint, banged up more than I usually was. I knew the time was coming for a change.

I can see why in football that window is much smaller.

Just the wear and tear , quickly in comparison gets old.

At this point I trust Ben Roethlisberger knows what he needs to prepare. Besides I question overtraining in terms of it leading to non contact injuries. At this point with Ben Id rather him be a Clydesdale than a thoroughbred.

Idk, I've been recovering just days after an injury.
Of course I'm still in my 20's. But I feel better now than I did at 18-19.

But in Ben's case, he's taken years of abuse at the nfl level.
So all understandable. Guys like Jerry Rice, Jaromir Jagr, James Harrison, who are able to play into their 40's...it's a certain dedication to stay physically able. The stuff away from the game and away from the strength & conditioning aspect.

If Ben is really serious about making a strong push towards the end of his career. He can do it.

Get back to us when you are in your 40's. Simply just a nite and day scenario.

So true! I coach my son's little League baseball team. During a practice in April I threw a ball to the outfield as hard as I could throw it. BAD IDEA. My shoulder has been jacked up ever since. I could only imagine that happening to an NFL quarterback.

I hear getting old sucks.
I'm hoping my healthy choices today benefit me down the line.

Sure can't hurt! Luckily I have an active job. I think that really helps me stay loose.
It's just the small injuries that take forever to heal compared to life in my 20's.

With age comes wisdom as I find my self way more cautious in tackling a job. I'm more user friendly than when I was younger as you just tore into it and got it done. Today I use carts / pulleys / extra bodies / etc. to get things done. So in my "older" age I don't get the injuries as I did in my younger days even then though I wasn't a walking injury. Smarter NOT harder.

A-N-D even in older age, wise eating / exercise / mental / all cvontribute for healthiness down the road. Keep up taking care of yourself regardless of your current age as it will benefit yaz !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They will, stay active, I'm 40 but I've stayed active since highschool, hockey leagues, soccer, and running pretty much year around. I still play indoor soccer with primarily college students and pick up soccer in the summer with high school and college aged kids, run 4 times a week, and the majority of them get tired before I do. I have zero aches or pains

You are my hero right now. Keep it up

Two sayings that have stuck with me through the years:

If I had known I was going to live this long, I would have taken better care of myself.

I feel pretty good right now but if I had felt this way 30 years ago I'd have been real sick.
