Rodgers Signing with Black n’ Gold

Who would you rather have as QB1?? 13 million dollars is basically free for a QB and he's best available. Seems Chanukah friendly to me
If you are not going to field a legitimate QB, why not just go for the 4mil option? Why spend 9 mil more for arguably not much of an upgrade?

I don't think it's going to change the entire playbook, but I do believe Rodgers will be given more room to operate outside of the recent restraints put on the others you listed. As always, time will tell.
What actually makes you think this? Ben is a future HOF QB, he wasn’t really given “room”. Wilson is possibly a HOF QB, he wasn’t given “room”. Rodgers is a future HOF QB, why would he be given “room” when the others were not?

Forge, I believe Tomlin is so enamored and star struck for lack of a better way of putting it with Aaron Rodgers that he very well could give him free rein.
I know that makes little sense if he does in light of handcuffing Ben and Wilson, but very little else makes sense with how Tomlin manages the Steelers.
Nothing this guy does surprises me any longer.

I see a meltdown of historical proportions on the horizon.

No offense to Wilson but he isn't in the same stratosphere of talent or football smarts as A Aron. Not even close. Wilson is likely a Hall of Famer after a few years waiting, Rodgers is in the conversation as best ever. Not saying he is best, but he is in the discussion. He also can see over the line to actual read the middle of the field. Despite his declining mobility he has his arm talent least a large portion of it and all of his mental faculties when not Ayahuasca. If Tomlin doesn't give him some latitude, even I will be calling for Tomlin to retire. You don't bring in an all-time great football mind and arm even at 90% and not go for broke. I am sure they will ask him to relatively stay in the scheme but give him plenty of freedom to check off plays. Russ would have needed a stepstool to do so accurately, and Fields wasn't a cerebral player at all, not yet at least and maybe never.

I think it makes sense, Wilson and Ben were far more gunslingers than Rodgers. Despite his ability to play that way he was always more careful with the ball than Ben and more able to spread it all around the field than Wilson. I love Ben but he isn't the student of the game that Rodgers is. Also, Ben was given plenty of control most of his career until the last couple years.

Two reasons:

1) Rodgers is a stronger personality than either Ben or Russ, and he has the "pedigree" of 4 MVP titles to his credit, which Tomlin no doubt respects.
2) This line of thinking has failed Tomlin for years and years now. It's a proven failure. It's high time that even he can learn his lesson.

Rodgers played well at the end of LAST SEASON for a bad team. I'm basing his potential not on what he did 10 years ago, or 4 years ago (a "lifetime")...I'm talking about THE FINAL TEN GAMES OF 2024, when he had a 97+ passer rating. I'm not the guy who said Rodgers wasn't any good for a decade. Just own your mistake and stop being a p&ssy about it.

You hate the signing. Good for you. Hate away. I think it's a good signing because AR improves the QB room, has the chops to stand up to Tomlin and his moronic offensive philosophy, can help mentor Will Howard in ways that Mason Rudolph could only dream of, and gives the Steelers a better chance to win.

You'll find me right here, tough guy. Maybe you'll get your wish, and Rodgers will fail. I've been wrong before, but I'm man enough to admit it.

Rodgers was great 4 or 5 years ago. That means he was good 4 years ago not next season. He's an over 40 head case, prima donna, conspiracy theorist, and all around weirdo.

In what world does this type of athlete come into your locker room and make everything great again? On what planet does he share his knowledge in the QB room?

He cannot make down field throws the way he used to, watch the games and you'll see that. He's a former all-world QB and future Hall of Famer with diminishing skills, lack of professionalism, and the wrong kind of chip on his shoulder.

You love him...good for you. I think he's worthless and he's going to prove it quickly. Of course, you'll have plenty of excuses in November but I don't want to hear any of your nonsense.

And why call me "tough guy?" Nothing about what I say is aggressive or personal with you

This team needs a 5 year plan not 5 1-year plans. Each 1 year plan puts them another year behind the good teams in the league and 2 years away from the sometimes painful process of rebuilding

Imagine believing a 40 year old nutcase who was once a great QB is going to come in and lead the way to 7. It's insanity.

I don't know how many times I have to explain that AR's numbers with the Jets were good last year. In fact, even in total, they were much better than Mason Rudolph's career stats. Not 4 years ago. Not 5 years ago, Not 10 years ago LAST YEAR. You have a problem with his personality. Fine. Obviously, it's early, but he's said and done everything right thus far this week. I'm willing to give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

The same world where he mentored Jordan Love in Green Bay and Zach Wilson with the Jets.

You keep saying that Rodgers can't make downfield throws. Everyone else disagrees. I did watch a bunch of his highlights from 2024, and they indicate he indeed can make those throws, including ones where he is on the move. You can keep repeating that he can't, but it doesn't make it true.

I don't "love" Aaron Rodgers, but for the price the Steelers paid, he was by far their best option at the QB position this season.
And why call me "tough guy?" Nothing about what I say is aggressive or personal with you
You're the guy who said you were going to come looking for me. That's why.

Imagine showing me where I said that the Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl with Rodgers. I'll wait.

You are letting your personal dislike cloud your objectivity. He has been none of the things you claim since arriving and by all accounts from teammates none of those things in previous Lockeroom's. Something tells me this about his opinions on non-football topics and not about actual football.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

I was not happy with the whole process of how we acquired the Aaaa-Ron. I voiced openly about it and some of the stuff still is my opinion.

Now that the Aaaa-Ron is a Steelers player, I’m all on board, of course.

Time will tell and it is the risk the Tomlin is willing to take.

I Always want our players to exceed expectations

This comment describes probably half of this Steeler Nation site. Including myself sometimes😉😉

As I’ve gotten older I prefer some of these people with a bit of character. What exactly has he done that gets you so riled up off the field? Who gives a **** if he thinks the earth is flat or whatever. Pretty harmless. Bet you I’d have a better time get **** faced ,shooting the bull with him than the usual strait laced boring numb nuts that you obviously prefer. Hmmmm…..I wonder what type you are.

Mann oh Mann ,the guy hasn't even played a down for us.

Rodgers throws almost exclusively over the middle. The Steelers throw almost never over the middle. Get your popcorn ready 🍿.

It will be interesting to see how long this “marriage” lasts. Even if Rodgers gets them to the playoffs and throws 5 TD’s in that game, Mike Tomlin’s defense is still going to give up 40 points and lose the game. They need Ben or Rodgers in their PRIME to stand any chance of winning, and they have NEITHER.

Make it a large basket as he isn’t the type to like to be overall handcuffed. Quite the opposite.

Looking back at the Jets last season… I think coming off injury slowed AR, as well as their O-line and play calling. I think he followed suit and didn’t always change the play like at times on third and say two or three they ran it. So many layers to this signing on a one year rental I think the FO knows the script can go many a ways…

If I can endure half a season of OldeRuss I’m more than prepped for this season.

We may actually see things like audibles, presnap reads leading to hot route calls, a return of extinct plays like the slant, dig, crossers, etc

That would be a much needed breath of fresh air.

This is the type of signing that could only happen to a team with Rudy. That guy just can’t catch a break. Goes from hiding in Ben’s shadow to being log jammed behind inferior QBs like T-biscuit and KFP to signing with the worst team in football to this…at least he’s making a healthy living.

While I didn’t support the signing I’m glad the circus finally has a main attraction and can’t wait to see how the show unfolds.

If he can run a good ball control offense with the threat of the pass most of the year, I doubt you will feel this way about our defense at the end of the season. We have brought in the thing we needed most, higher end reinforcements for the line so Cam doesn't have to do it all. When he was in the game last year our run defense was near the top, playoffs notwithstanding. When he was out, we gave up a yard and a half more per carry. The two Rookies and the guy from the Pats should help shore up that up once they get comfortable. Leal put some weight on to focus exclusively on the DL and we get to see what Lee can do. If they improve the depth and rotation that will also make the ILBs look much better.

Popcorn you say……………..

Two night ago I went to make this Jolly-Time pack of popcorn. It was a three pouch pack, oil / corn / topping salt and the instructions said to use 1/2 at a time.

I was making the popcorn instead of supper so I made the whole pack at once……………….. mistake

My giant sized kettle became over full and yes….. I had a small mess.

W-A-I-T, there’s more…………………….

I get done popping and put all the popped corn in this HUGE mixing bowl, topped with powdered ranch & smoked paprika sprinkled over. Tasted great

B-U-T

I went to grab the bowl and head into TV room to watch and lo and behold I knocked the bowl off the counter…………………………… Miraculously, the bowl landed upside down on the floor and caged the popcorn inside underneath. I just lifted slightly and scoop the corn while turning the bowl upright.

I lost about 1/6 of the popcorn, but overall still had way plenty and enjoyed the viewing.

**** Happens, laugh and move forward.

Next time just slide a paper under it, grab the edges and turn the bowl , you'll lose less popcorn that way, IF you don't care it touched the floor. George Costanza wouldn't mind probably

Sure all of that COULD be true, except you are ignoring the reason for the greatest problem, MIKE TOMLIN. He. BELIEVES that his 2 DL scheme works, not blitzing and sitting back is the way to go. He BELIEVES that only scoring 1 point more than your opponent, so as to not upset them, is a good plan.

My take, which is worth nothing except to me:

Did I want them to sign A-Aron; no, because I have doubts that it will make much of a difference.
But they did, and he is now a Steeler, and with each and every game I wish success for him and the team.

From an entertainment value it will be an uptick, but the overall philosophy of the team won't change much.

Did you find some stat showing yards we gave up with Cam vs yards we gave up without him? My memory remembers us giving up yards with and without him. Just curious.

Edit: Also it just wasn't our run defense that was/is the problem.

Just a few other issues.....Our soft zones and our CBs consistently playing 10 yards off the WRs on 3rd and short. We consistently just rush 4 players straight up the field. Our nonadjustments all game long.

The scheme is dated. When a WR from 10 years ago laughs that we are still doing the same thing and loved it when he played us......change is needed.
