ROADTRIP things to do in Pittsburgh

Not sure about Liberty the rest do.
Hey Slash just booked at Double Tree by Hilton on Bigelow Square. Do the following bridges all have pedestrian walkways Roberto Clemente, Fort Duquesne, Liberty and Smithfield st. ???
I want to walk to hockey and football games.:towel:
What streets do you classify as making up the strip ?
Excited

Take Grant to Liberty and keep walking to get to the strip. Penn Ave and Liberty Ave is your strip district streets....

I stayed at the double tree one year and walked to the strip district, I think Penn took me there or somehow I ended up on Penn. NO MATTER WHAT, ANY STREET IN PITTSBURGH FELT LIKE HOME.

Salute the nation

Wow I hope you got a good discount for staying that long

Penn Ave. and Liberty Ave. are kind of broken up by the convention center and hotel but walk around it and you're back on them.

I hear Controversy has the best girls now but that’s second hand info. Blush may offer extras. Club Erotica has the best drinking deals but it’s in the Rocks.

Springhill Suites in Mt Lebanon Is bordering the T. If you can’t stay downtown stay there instead of going to Cranberry.

Also really strong trend of putting yuppie brewpubs in shithole neighborhoods. So maybe think twice before going to that awesome place on South Braddock Ave or anywhere in the North Side that isn’t on a main stretch. Do not wait until closing to leave these places.

Club Controversy looks awful small. Never been there but I drive past it a lot. Cheerleaders and the newer Spearmint Rhino have a lot of commercials on the radio so maybe they're good. Haven't been in a tittie bar since I've been married. Mrs. Burgundy's are very nice.

Thanks for all the information, truly appreciate all the responses from everyone. I was able to score a room right next to the PPG Paint Arena for just $5.00 more a night than the place you mentioned (Springhill Suites) so it will allow us to walk to the games, the strip district or take the train for free. Happy about that. Last time I was down I stayed just outside of downtown for cheaper but spent a lot of time searching for a safe place to park when I went downtown.

I am going to have to buff up on my communication skills before Coming to America. Like for instance when you say "Never been there but I drive past it a lot" in Canada we just call that "Stalking" or "Casing the Joint" and when we make a statement like: "Haven't been in a tittie bar since I've been married." in Canada we need an "Alibi". Lastly if we make a claim like: "Mrs. Burgundy's are very nice" in Canada we require "Photo Evidence" 8"x10"s will suffice

All in good fun,,, Ron
I tried to keep it PG
Thanks for your posts
Sincerely,
P.G.

P.S. I thought Pittsburgh didn't have Cheerleaders ?????:cheer2:

I usually stay in Cranberry at Hyatt Place, easy drive in, I park free around sports museum and walk to Pirate games.
Plenty of golf courses to play, if you play.

If you like to drink Roland's on the Strip

PA_Pittsburgh_25.jpg

If you are at Roland's, get the calamari appetizer. Also, tell Johnny Irish I said hello.....and ask him why Big Ben is banned from there.

But if you are in the Strip, eat lunch here...

When my wife and I go to Pens games, we always grab a bite at Sammy's Famous Corned Beef. We have a couple beers, and a shot of Crown, then we are ready for the game. You will not be the only hockey fan in the place. Let people know you are from Canadia, in for the Pens game, and you may not have to buy any drinks.

Southside used to be fine, but now it is just a bunch of drunk 20 year olds, and hood rats. Only place I would recommend there is the Birmingham Bridge Tavern. It retains that old Pittsburgh spirit, and the food is good. You will have to take an Uber for this.

Hope this helps, and enjoy your stay. Yinzers are a friendly bunch.

Thanks for the suggestions, I appreciate all info greatly.
I usually wear my Steelers gear throughout most of the visit along with a black baseball cap that either has the flag or Canada written on it.
Agree everyone is pretty friendly. Even at the games fans tend to be more on the civil side towards the visiting fans. We jest around alot but it is not like seeing a game in Buffalo where people just get hammered cause their team sucks and go looking for a fight (women included in that).
Looking forward to the trip and spending some time exploring the sights.

paying respect to the statues/monuments along the river by the stadiums makes my heart sad/proud

Sounds like you had a great time.
I have been reading up on Heinz, Carnegie, Mellon, US STEEL and the Inclines. We will probably visit most things to do with science, military and history during this visit.
Thanks for all the suggestions

we always have a blast. this year we took a couple that have never been there and they loved it. we tried to cram as much into 3 days/2 nights as we could. im sure there are plenty of uppity spots to eat and drink but im a beer and burger type so thats what im familiar with.
enjoy

Well the game is coming up and looking fwd to being on sacred ground.
Just a little bump up. I know there a couple of musicians on here ( Might Guru & Diamond Dave ) Where would you recommend to see some good live music. Preferably rock but I'm open to suggestions.

Also saw where there is a renovated church that is now a microbrewery? The old lady wants to drop by for confession after a couple of pints. Is it worth the visit?

I told my brother we need to go to Primanti's. My brother says he doesn't want to do a sandwich and wants some fine dining.
What would yinz recommend?
