By G.Stryker SteelerNation.com There are drafts when the Pittsburgh Steelers move, make trades, and acquire players. There are also times when they just barely miss out on players due to the moves of other teams. As we revisit different Steelers drafts over the years, we will take a look inside into what made those moments […]

that may have been our greatest draft day trade ...... but this one is off the charts in my mind

Traded to New Orleans

1999 first round pick (5th overall, Ricky Williams)[13]
Traded to Washington[13]

1999 first round pick (12th overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select Cade McNown)[14]
1999 third round pick (71st overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select D'Wayne Bates)[14]
1999 fourth round pick (107th overall, used to select Nate Stimson)[15]
1999 fifth round pick (144th overall, later traded to Chicago, used to select Khari Samuel)[16]
1999 sixth round pick (179th overall, later traded to Denver, used to select Desmond Clark)[15]
1999 seventh round pick (218th overall, later traded to Denver, used to select Billy Miller)[15]
2000 first round pick (2nd overall, used to select LaVar Arrington)[13]
2000 third round pick (64th overall, used to select Lloyd Harrison)[13]

not really a great haul outside of maybe LaVar Arrington for Washington .but they did shuffle some of those picks to move back up to get Champ Bailey
.... but man that is a lot to give up to move to 5th spot for New Orleans

and Cincy turned down 9 picks from NO to stay at the #3 spot ......and drafted Akili Smith .......ouch

A lot of research Hoot. I was actually amazed with how well the Rams did with their draft capital as well. They didn't do as terribly in this trade as I initially remembered.

Cope, you hit another home run and this isn't even baseball. Thanks for all your time & effort in doing all these articles, love E'M.!

That trade paid off both short term and long term and O'h what a pleasure to watch Jerome take over. Our "D" fed off him as well as the coaching staff and all the inbetween.

ONE thing JEROME had that many over look is his UNCONDITIONAL leadership. He would take time for anybody and anyone who asked him for help. He cured many of our running backs from fumblitis and how to move on from a fumble, JUST to name one way of leadership. JUST can't say enough of the player and of the MAN.

Thank you Mr. Bettis.!

PS. I Remeber a poll being put out there about

"What would you LEAST like to do"

1) Face a Randy Johnson Fast ball

2) Open Field tackle Jerome Bettis

3) (faulty memory) But face a Hockey (can't Remeber who) as a goalie

IT was like 90+ % picke #2 as least wanting to do. AWESOME
