The Pittsburgh Steelers are reportedly releasing inside linebacker Vince Williams after eight years with the Steelers. The move will save the Steelers $4M against the salary cap. The move was one heavily discussed this offseason, whether the team will make the move with Devin Bush returning from an ACL injury and the emergence of Robert Spillane last season.

The Steelers are releasing veteran linebacker Vince Williams, per sources. Williams played eight years in Pittsburgh and amassed nearly 479 tackles and 20.5 sacks. The move saves $4 million on the cap.

Not sold on Spillane replacing Vince.

Guess he didn't want to take a pay cut. We still need a big thumper in the middle. Maybe they are going to sign Williamson now.

I liked Bince. Will miss his demeanor. Best wishes Vince thank you for your time on the team.

I kind of thought this was going to happen. I would expect a few restructures very soon with DeCastro, Tuitt and the CB’s. If they are serious about William Jackson the Bengals CB, then I think Haden is cut. Idk, I think there could be a couple surprises yet to come.
Next up, Ju Ju!

Too many restructures and not enough true saving. Kicking the can only goes so far. Really sucks to see the business side of this game cast aside a fan favorite.

Don't get me wrong, I liked Vince, but you needed a calendar to time the guy in the 40. Hopefully we can trade a little thump for a little run fast.

Joe

Draft mcgrone or Moses to play next to bush

He'll probably be sitting around in November when we need an injury replacement. He should hold off on listing his house.

Bince was a little old school in how he handled things. His type LB-ing is old school as well and the NFL is moving past those kind of players. He hit to hard to be fast enough to keep up. Loved his play and increased ability in thumping but sorry the O'l work horse must be put to pasture.

Good luck in your "life's work" and truly who didn't see this coming.

Always liked VW and wish him well. Hoping he returns as a backup for our incredibly thin ILB corps.

They will hopefully sign him to a less expensive contract. I can't imagine other teams throwing a ton of cash at him

It’s not just Spillane- I feel pretty good about the Spillane/Bush combo. I think it may be a better combo. There’s also Avery Williamson still in the mix too who really started to become comfortable with the scheme towards the end of last year. I think the Steelers will be fine there.

Vince is a good player. Old school mentality and style, he still got the job done and was a physical presence in the middle of the defense. Terrific blitzer too. I hope he lands somewhere good, but also out of the AFC.

This was expected... his play down the stretch was subpar and he plays a role that most teams don’t commit more than a couple million to for excellent run stopping ilbs... sign a guy like avery williamson back for two or three mil per or just draft a lower round guy

Could mean we resign Avery Williamson?
I didn’t realize AW was on the UFA list. Not sure which way this one would go. Marcus Allen did fine filling in as well but with the loss of Hotel Hilton- I think there maybe other plans for Allen, Sutton and Layne.

No choice probably draft somebody Ohio state‘s got a couple linebackers to look at... sad to see all these guys leaving this coaching staff will be lucky to win 6 games next year this is a staff that relied on top talent to be mediocre... Heinz is going to be a house of pain!

Damn..... Steelers D is taking a hit with losing Starters this week.. DuPree, Hilton....and now Vince
