The Pittsburgh Steelers added a cornerback today via trade with the Seattle Seahawks:

Sources: The #Seahawks are trading CB Ahkello Witherspoon to the #Steelers. A little secondary help before the opener.

The team acquired Ahkello Witherspoon from Seattle. The team was heavily expecting to make a move like this at some point to bolster up the depth at the position. We will update on terms of the trade as they are released.

Witherspoon signed a one-year, $4 million contract with the Seattle Seahawks this offseason. The structure of Witherspoon's contract with Seattle included a $2.5 million signing bonus and a $1.5 million base salary.

Pretty cheap pickup.

So he costs $1.5M on our books. Nice!

The not so nice:
We give up a 2023 5th rounder
We probably lose our 2022 5th round comp pick...

Conflicting reports on losing that comp pick.

Why would we lose a comp pick on a trade? Is that normal?
Good question. That comp pick formula has so many variables. I am thinking trade deadlines either before or after weigh if I remember reading correctly. But won't even begin to act like I have that down pat.

Why do they post these articles without any data like you know info? Kinda want to know a little about the guy.

He has some issues trailing. Like most tall corners the small quick receivers will be an issue. He is a hot cold developmental type. I would move him around like they did Mink in Miami just to get a feel for what he is comfy at. What he isn't comfy with they will need to develop. You can man to man him but playing off zone probably better for the kid. He will need to work on his tackling something I think the Steelers work on well. The two TDs he gave up last year one looked like a bad angle, the other was a broken play that his man eventually got free. Thinking about Nelson's plethora of TDs he gave up last year, two is a drop in the bucket in comparison. Statistically in coverage he graded out well.

That will come into play once they choose their 2023 5th rounder so as our guy VS their guy head measurements can be compared.

who are you going to believe? me or cope?

No SIR, I think it is DBs in genral, face size matters on OL but head size matters on DB, correct me if i'm wrong.....................

Salute the nation

Nice pickup. Hopefully the end of Layne
