The Pittsburgh Steelers just keep freeing up cap space. They have now restructured the contract of defensive lineman, Stephon Tuitt:

The Steelers converted $7.925M of DL Stephon Tuitt’s 2021 base salary into a signing bonus, creating $6.34M in 2021 cap space.

Even after the trade for Joe Schobert, Pittsburgh has good cap flexibility to operate throughout the season.

Steelers General Manager Kevin Colbert has been very aggressive in freeing up cap space heading into the 2021 NFL season. Cap space is always good to have to get through the season, but does this mean that Colbert is preparing to potentially make another move? He just bolstered the inside linebacker corps by adding Pro Bowl linebacker Joe Schobert via trade. It makes you wonder if Colbert is plotting another move before the start of the season.

The team has indeed been busy, and still have some more work to do in-house. Next up should be the team inking All Pro edge rusher TJ Watt to a long-term deal that cements him in Pittsburgh for a long, long time. This could potentially free up even more cap space for the team, and it guarantees Watt to be a Steeler for the foreseeable future, a win-win if you ask me.

What are your thoughts on what Colbert is going to do with this new found cap space, Steeler Nation? Let us know in the comment section below!

Interesting! What’s Kevin up to? Could we be signing some OL help or possibly making a move for a CB trade? Could we be getting ready to sign TJ but read he wants 100 million guarantee money. Holy crap I cannot see them doing that.

They can still spread guaranteed money out. Whatever it is the man will be paid and paid well by the Steelers.
