It appears a decision on whether Ben Roethlisberger is back for 2021 may be coming next week. Ben Roethlisberger and the Steelers are expected to meet some time next week to discuss his future and contract, per source. Both sides took some time away after the season. Roethlisberger wants to return for an 18th NFL […]

Start with put up or shut up. I know that sounds harsh but desperate times brings desperate actions. Pay guaranteed money plus VET MINIMUM. Bonus at end of season for certain criteria. BEN said his pay doesn't matter.

Just a suggestion.

If he truly will do whatever they should do the extreme save and then show him how that can get others resigned.

I think Ben would buy in.

He said he pay didn't matter for THIS year. He wants a restructure not a pay cut.

People are way too caught up on his pay... 23 million dollars in cap space is from prior bonuses that count no matter what... the remaining 19 million is slightly above the league average for starting qbs...

If you take out all the starters still on rookie contracts 19 million is a steal... you aren’t bringing in a vet for less than that...

The best option is still extending ben three to five years out and pishing the cap hit to a more normal cap year

None of us know what he wants, I'm just going by what he said. You seem to have insight or are just adding to what he said. What ever they end up with, I'm sure both parties will agree and it'd best for the team.

BEN has given his all and yes everything to this team, some of you act as if he has ripped them off somehow. His gauranteed money is from past restructure and the STEELERS themselves pushed the money ahead, NOT Ben. He has been worth every contract signed it's not his fault coaching and front office hasn't made more of the oppurtunit it's along the way.

Listen I want what's best for both of them but am not willing to listen to BEN bashing.

Ben has taken market value for his entire career and is owed 19 million this year. He will want every dime . He will restructure to help the cap hit but he wants his moneyNOTHING in his career shows he will give a discount nothing. If he wanted he could immediately forgo the 15 million roster bonus due in March. Wanna bet a grand he wont ?

Name all the players in the league that haven’t taken huge pay cuts for their team.

No one is blaming Ben but t think he will play for 4 million is beyond laughable. He wants his pay regardless of how he couched his words. Rivers got paid 25 million this year, think Ben will play for 4 miilion ? 7 million ? 12 million ?.

This ***** in the face of what Bouchette “reported”

I didn't see anything in Fowler's report that refutes what Bouchette said. We'll find out for sure next week after the two sides meet.

Yeah, I don't see him taking a pay cut either. He is due $19 million this year, which is tied for 13th in the NFL with Alex Smith and Russell Wilson. You can also factor in there are 10 starting QBs below him on rookie deals.

There is no discount to be given people. It was money pushed down the road. All they can do is push it further down the road again. Its just a bad idea. Eat it this year. You are not going to contend anyhow. Move on or we will all be back same bat time same bat channel next year.

The plan was always to extend Ben. They knew they would have upwards of $170+ mil in cap space in 2022. “Kicking the can” works because they’ll have enough space to do it. All the while keeping TJ and Minkha with their new contracts. Ben will get an extension commiserate with what QBs like him get, however, the extension will have voidable years. It’s not that difficult to understand.

Br*dy has always taken less than market value but he had his side scams with the team and his wife makes more money than he does.

Remeber the "side scams" we're the biggest factor but also Remeber SHE wore the pants and HE wore the UGGs.

I agree with Drink IRON City 110%. Why Bash BEN and not the front office for the way they pushed this down the road? Ben ALWAYS agreed to restructuring of his contract for the good of the team.

I have seen some claims on this forum that Ben is a Prima Donna and complained about being hurt. Holy Cow, Big Ben took more of a beating for this team and kept on playing than any top tier QB I can remember.

In addition, we have only one shot of making the playoffs this year and it's with Big Ben playing. With a 17 (yes 17) game regular 2021 schedule that is brutal we need all the help we can get. A journeyman QB or a rookie such as Mason Rudolph is NOT the answer.

I agree about stopping the Ben Bashing. His last game was not one of his best but snapping the ball so far over his head that not even Kareem in his heyday could jump that high is not his fault. Forcing some errant throws was his fault but not all of his. Coveniently the 11-0 start is now forgotten. Get a runner and some blockers!

I stand by my words. Unless the Steelers are extremely lucky in drafting a highly ranked QB, we are in for a number of years of a struggling O after BB retires.

We're not drafting a QB who is going to step in and play right away at #24. Extend Ben however many years to get the best cap numbers, it'll be a "one" year agreement.

The cap is going to go up with the new TV deals.

You address the Oline/RB in rounds 1 and 2 of the draft and hope the new OC/OL coach can get this running game to at least mid pack and we don't have to throw 50 times a game. Dotson looks like a good player, Banner totally transformed himself into a more athletic guy in better shape, but we never got to see him because of injury. We have a couple good young WR's

This defense, if called correctly can still be very good, Heyward, Tuitt, Watt, Bush, Minkah will all be back, Nelson or Haden, Highsmith year 2. Although this is highly unlikely with Tomlin calling his wannabe Tampa 2

Nobody is declaring us Super Bowl contenders, but you never know what can happen. Mahomes and Jackson both got knocked out of their playoff games. Alot seem to think we have a shot at the playoffs though, that's all you can ask for.

It is also really good for the player pushing more money up front.

I just rewatched the opener against the Giants with eyes on Banner. He has potential to be devastating in the ground game. When he gets his hands on defenders, he just moves people. Pass protection will need work, though it seems coachable. Banner is 6'8" and plays like he's that tall. He needs to get lower because defenders have an easy time getting under him and knocking Banner off balance, especially when he's backing up in pass protection. You hope he can correct this because his upgrade in run blocking appears pretty significant over Okorafor.

Whatever the Steelers agree to pay Ben, he shouldn't be commiserating about his finances. (obviously you meant to say "commensurate")

.
As for the guys complaining about "Ben bashing," let's not pretend that he hasn't been well-loved by fans, and also that he hasn't been compensated incredibly handsomely for all of his efforts -- the guy has already made more than A QUARTER BILLION dollars in his career. Let me say that again: A QUARTER BILLION.

And has probably made a good living with endorsements and investments.

And for those of you who don’t understand the stimulus discussed by government, use this as a baseline. The principle still applies. Kick the can down the road applies the same

Mahomes will make a 1/2 billion in 10 years so what's your point. The money pushed ahead was the STEELERS decision so it is owed to him. Would you give up your vacation pay if someone from another company asked you to. I don't think the STEELERS are asking BEN to give up "owed" money, FANs are though as if he is ripping the team off.

Patience will tell the story. The STEELERS and Ben will come to a decision and it will be agreeable to both.

Ben isn't owed anything. They can cut him and he will get zero. There would still be a cap hit or 22M (or 11/11 if it was a post june cut) from the money that was amortized. Ben already has that money in his bank; the team is still accounting for it on the books, but Ben already got it.

"How are they going to pay Ben"?

And has probably made a good living with endorsements and investments.

Maybe investments, I don't recall seeing any Big Ben endorsements other than his BBQ sauce (which was actually pretty good), the sexual assault allegations kinda put the kibosh on that.
