Curt Popejoy Steelerwire reports Steelers and JuJu’s agents are talking contract.
Popejoy says it could be Steelers make offer and if he doesn’t sign he can see if he can do better. Of course Curt is just repeating what Rappanport reported.
I have no idea what they could offer and how they could make it work with literally 7 mil in cap space with a rookie class to sign but we shall see. Maybe they will buy him a new bike.

Popejoy doesn't have any inside sources with the Steelers. Unless it was a local or national report that he wrote about, there isn't much to it.

They can structure a contract that could work but still can't offer him much more than $10 million per. They can pretty easily clear another 5-10 million with just restructures of Nelson, Tuitt and tell Vinnie to take a pay cut or take a walk like they did with Deebo.

Haven't seen or heard anything about this. Hopefully they at least make an effort to do what they can even though I doubt anything gets done unless JuJu takes a steep discount.

I've been countng down the days until the 17th and have kept optimistic to waht can get done 5

So, I read over at the depot that a 2 year, no new money contract extension that voids after this year for Haden would clear up an additional $3.95M. Plus, if they really wanted to work something out with JuJu, DeCastro is in the final year of his contract. An extension for him could clear at least $4M .... That's a pretty good chunk of change that could be used to sign JuJu ... Don't think the deal gets done without some guaranteed money in year 2 though.

I just don't understand giving big money to Juju when they still have Claypool, Johnson and Washington, need to pay Watt and Fitzpatrick, and should probably sign or trade for another offensive lineman this Spring, in addition to drafting one of two more early in the draft.

He's a good player, and I'd like him back at the right price, but the league is setup so teams cannot keep everyone they should.

It’s probably going down like this “Juju, we’re offering 2 million plus incentives, no, ok, good luck with your life’s work”

Would that be considered proper use of negotiating skills.......?

Other teams will offer more than we can afford. Love JuJu. wish him well except when he plays us.

I don't see any possible way we sign him. I'd rather they stuff the money into the OL/DL.

Sooo. Today on my yahoo sports app for the Steelers headlines it says, “JuJu makes it clear he is not returning to Steelers” I don’t click on that ****; come here tonight and see this thread. Go back to app and the click bait article is gone and new one about contract talks. With I woulda looked who wrote it

Was it because he voted he was leaving on an SI IG poll?

They simply do not have the cap space and if as someone suggested extending both Haden and DeCastro would probably make it happen but, I’d rather go a step further and restructure Nelson, cut Ebron and try to sign Bud, Sutton and Hilton.
They could really replace JuJu in the draft. As for TE bring back the outlaw and use one of the 4th round picks for a TE who can block.

I'd cut Ebron and Haden if it meant keeping Dupree, Sutton, and Hilton.

We really don’t need both Sutton and Hilton. Just one, preferably one who is cheaper. Sutton is the best choice. Don’t think we would cut Ebron unless we had another receiving TE on the roster.

I take both over a CB who is at the age where most CBs begin to see a steep decline in play.

Shuester is as good as gone. Hilton will be gone as well. I just hope Sutton can be re-signed. Joe is going nowhere.

Hayden is still playing at a very high level who knows maybe he winds up being like Darrell Green as far as production and longevity.

#Steelers WR JuJu Smith-Schuster has told teammates that he's likely to sign elsewhere in free agency, per

no surprise there, hope the Steelers invest the money wisely. Why haven't they extended Nelson lowering his cap hit this season? Same goes for Vince, either take a paycut or hit the road. Tuitt should be restructured
If we can keep Feiler, Banner, Sutton, Williamson and bring and edge FA we might be ok going to the draft without obvious holes beside RB/LT/C, which all seem deep enough in this class to get a quality guy in each position in the first 3 rounds

i'd move on from Feiler. I believe Williamson is a FA. He can be replaced at this point rather easily since Spillane is back. Banner is a FA, also, but can be had back here for cheap. I definitely bring him and Sutton back.

I'd extend Nelson and Haden, too.

I also believe the coaching staff likes Sutton, Layne and that Pierre guy.
