Report: Former first-round QB Lynch visiting Steelers

I’m fairly certain most here were pissed at the Vick sign

Two ways to approach this issue - What's best for the Steelers vs. who's the best washed-up scrub available.

Two ways to view these two guys - Who did the worse thing to animals vs. who is the opportunistic leftie.

These four factors fall differently to different people.

It won't change. That's why this nation is so divided - can't find common priorities. Animals vs. our nation as given to us. Hmmm

Vick was a worse move than Kap would be.

Dude, I have been to one Stteler game in my life & watched Vick in San Diego and he was the worst for 3 1/2 quarters...Then he lit it up and Bell won the gamer as time expired from the Wildcat.

Glad for the signing because we won the game as time expired and all the SD fans who were on me the whole game disappeared in an instant.....

Great signing in my mind because I will have that memory forever....

That was a GREAT game!! I was there, too. Great memories!

Yep, there as well. Entire Steelers side filled with Steelers fans, both levels. Did not see a Chargers jersey on the Steelers side of the field.

Paxton Lynch. Guy has not panned out, at all, in any fashion so far. No doubt. But I find in interesting that football fans look to stats for a QB, working on a bad team with very dubious skill position players, while looking to potential and athletic ability for other positions. RB is 228 lbs., good hands, runs a 4.41 40, does 26 reps? Not nearly as many give a **** if he sucked with a terrible team and behind an awful OL.

I bring this up because I knew very little to nothing about Lynch, so looked him up. Dude is huge and very athletic for a QB. 6'7", 245 lbs. Ran a 4.86 40. 36" vertical, 118" long jump. So the guy is big and athletic.

Arm? "Has a quick release to overcome his slight wind-up. Has enough arm to drive the ball into restricted windows. Has enough arm to attack downfield while on the move."

"With no apparent top-10 prospect among the class of quarterbacks eligible for the 2016 NFL Draft, Memphis quarterback Paxton Lynch could see his stock elevate quickly this spring, thanks to a powerful arm and ideal measurables."

Strengths:

  • Strong arm
  • Can make all the throws
  • Great size; well-built height/weight
  • Capable of brilliant throws into tight windows
  • Good mobility
  • Athletic
  • Can throw a beautiful deep ball
  • Throws well on the run
  • Flashes pocket presence
  • When comfortable, sees the field well
  • Can be tough to bring down
  • Toughness
  • Has played hurt
  • Hand size (10.25 inches)
  • Capable of picking up yards with his feet

He has not played a meaningful game since 2017. Neither had Bell, but I digress. His stats are skewed by one really bad game against Oakland in 2017. Even then, he has a career completion percentage of 62%. Taking out the Oakland game (@#$% you guys, it's my post), his career stats are:

70-114 (61%) 751 yards 6.6 YPA 4 TD 3 Int. 81.4 NFL passer rating

Great? Of course not. He's a free @#$%ing agent. As bad as some suggest? No. Not at all.

I watched Lynch at Memphis. He's a huge guy. Has a huge arm. His issues are reading defenses and making quick decisions. He's not a bad pickup at all. He's just limited. I was surprised that Denver gave up on him and that nobody else picked him up. I haven't seen him play since college so he may have more issues than I know. But he sure looked the part at Memphis.

Interesting. I think a guy who has significant physical tools is worth a look as basically the #4 QB. Cannot teach a guy to be 6'7", 245 lbs.

Paxton Lynch is the ultimate reclamation project. Fichner has shown the ability to work with QB's, maybe this kid will be our #2 in a few short weeks. My guess is he'll end up better than Landry Jones, though that's not a bar set too high. The Duck kid seems far more like a project, someone to stash on the PS.

I don’t care for him, but c’mon, he’s not Michael Vick.

I would consider being done with the team while he is here. I was while Fuckstain was on the team.

However, if he actually came in and played football, leaving his politics off of the field, i would, probably, watch.

Ahh ****, time to cue up the Memphis highlights. This kid was grade A beef heading into the draft...

We'll make sure to let the Rooneys know, so they can sleep easy at night, that you feel that way. :)

I think Ben's arm issues was early and often. Which didn't help matters starting out of the gates. I love me some Big Ben, but I love me some healthy Big Ben.In Rudolph you have a healthy QB motivated and excited. That can be infectious. I think Fich is better than his 0 and 2 showing as a OC. I thought the D showed some potential despite the outcome.

I think there is some potential to win some games. This team will have to buy into the team concept. Rudolph just needs to move the ball down the field. Be a move the chains guy and then possibly good things will happen..........

It will be interesting to see if Fich can do something with Duck and Lynch too.

But for now Rudolph needs to guide that sleigh threw the rough weather. And deliver some wins.

Maybe he could play TE in a pinch? I'm partly kidding, and he'd be attempting the transition a lot later than say, Heath Miller or even Zach Gentry, but why the hell not at least try it? I guess we need that 3rd emergency backup QB, but after all I'm reading of his strengths, I don't think it's crazy.

Maybe a little.

You think i don't know that they don't give a **** what i think? I don't do things based upon what other people think. I do things for what i think. They sullied the Steelers by allowed that one sack of **** to wear the uniform. Fortunately, for me, they did that before i had to pay for Sunday Ticket.

I wouldn't be surprised at all if they sullied it again by hiring this reprobate.

The D showed something against Seattle. They showed nothing in game 1.

Wow...still butt hurt about the dog thing???

If you're a die-hard dog lover (which many people are), how could anyone not be upset by that? I don't care about the time he did or his attitude and actions after the fact, he tortured and executed our beloved, unconditional loving friends for sport. I don't care how he was raised etc., if you show that little regard for those lives, there's something seriously wrong with you.

Keep in mind he did zero time for "the dog thing". His time was for other infractions.

Also note, it is against nfl rules for players to be involved in gambling even if legal and even if not football related. He was deeply involved in illegal gambling.

That's why you're on the left of things . I'm on the right. He is worse than Vick, imo.

Without being political this is my thoughts. Vick did wrong and served his time and made amends and came back to football. Kaepernick whined and cried and called foul until the league gave him money to go away.

This is what I like about the Paxton Lynch practice squad signing. A) Lynch isn’t too proud to catch on and try to earn his way on the roster. B) Lynch didn’t look horrible in Denver. Honestly, he out played Elway statistically speaking in his early career so it’s funny that John cut him so quick. C) Nothing to lose everything to gain. Gives us an emergency QB and likely camp arm in 2020 at the very least. At the most he sticks on the roster at some point. Who knows maybe he develops and we trade him like the Eagles did with Foles.

I agree, but it is a progressive step. Just keep getting better as a unit as a team.

I think there is little patience with QBs now in today's NFL, it takes time for some QBs to be on the come. Some are simply late bloomers. Who knows maybe Lynch will be one of those types................

Lynch is just the guy on the ps for now. Either way, if he's ever in a position where he's taking a significant number of significant snaps in Pittsburgh, I'd say our problems at that moment are much bigger than Paxton Lynch being QB. I mean, we could've said that about Duck, too in all honesty a few weeks ago, but here we are now and he's our #2. So I guess my point is, let's be glad the guy they grabbed is a somewhat experienced, unpolarizing guy that will be wearing sweats on game day.

I remember there was a lot of Buzz here when Lynch was in the draft. A ton of people wanted him (Coach).

I personally liked his size, and thought he was accurate enough in college to take a serious look at him. The Steelers liked him and that wasn't a surprise, so to get him for nothing, and let him hang on the PS is a coup IMHO.
