In a statement announcing the suspension of the on-field crew, the replay official and the communicator, Commissioner John Swofford said that final play “was not handled appropriately.”

The league says the replay official was wrong in not declaring Miami’s Mark Walton down before he flipped the ball, and the on-field crew should have flagged the Hurricanes for an illegal block in the back.

“The quality of our officiating program is of the highest importance to the league and its schools, and the last play of the game was not handled appropriately,” Swofford said. “Officiating is an extraordinarily difficult job but our players, coaches, programs and fans deserve the best that can be offered. We will continue to strive to meet that standard.”

I thought they got the call right, though They did use replay to overturn a penalty which was totally against the rules... meh.. officials suck

They couldn't have gotten it more wrong. They didn't do anything right regarding that play

I can't believe they missed a blatant block in the back at the 15 or the guy's knee touching the ground ON REPLAY. I was so pumped when that play was going down, but the refs were a disaster. In fact, the ACC refs in general have been the worst group of officials that I've seen.

NFL officials have no consequences on calls and that's why they continually suck *** each and every week. "Sorry"s are handed out on a weekly basis.. that's all you'll get from Rog and company.

In the NFL if a ref blatantly ***** up he gets suspended for a week with pay. So in other words, **** up your job and get a week's paid vacation.

Yeah I was rooting for the call to be a TD because of the drama and I didn't personally see the infractions happen, but the replays showed multiple blocks in the back, the guy's knee down, etc. No way that play should have stood, especially given how long they looked at it

bout time these individuals are reasonable for not one thing but four things during the play and replay. NFL should do the same. Not only our game but ones I watched had some really bad inconsistent calls.
