we seem to have a logjam at CB, with a few draft picks invested in Golson and Burns.
he's coming off an ACL tear, so he likely wont be ready to start the season.

YES!!!

to every CB cut by EVERY team

but we need starters NOW

Vet minimum baby...you know you want to play for a SB contender with Ben and a healthy O-line!

sign up now!

You're absolutely correct about there being a logjam, but its also true that it's obviously a very young secondary. Obviously, it depends on his asking price, but I'd be fine with them bringing him in. I was hoping the FO was gonna make a move for him when he was a free agent last year.

There were reports back in February that he was progressing faster then expected with his injury. Could be worth a look and a possible upgrade over an aging William Gay should there be any drop-off in Gay's performance during camp. Bring him in for a physical.

I want to see our young guys take their lumps.

I'd rather our young players dove in, took their lumps early, and were ready to play ball come playoff time when we'll really need them. Rookie DBs CAN play in the NFL.

Let em play and let em learn.

hey you just can't guarantee the young guys a spot on the roster, they better earn it. If he comes cheap bring him in

Was never used properly, look great in black and gold, kick the tires for a minimum deal.

When was the last time you heard of a first or second round pick NOT making a roster?

Come on, man. You don't cut first and second day picks in camp.

I agree with you. My biggest concern is the play of Will Gay. I'm a little worried that his performance last year was the benefit of having Antwon Blake on the other side. It seemed as though teams only threw on Blake, and Unfortunately it wasn't because Gay was such a shutdown corner. Yeah, he's definitely improved over the course of his second stint here but he's also another year older and slower. If he comes out and sucks, we have a TON of young and inexperienced backs behind him. Culliver would be an insurance option.

I'm talking about Grant, also Cockrell came from the streets, literally. I worry he might regress a la Cortez and we have no else there.
Thre must be serious competition on TC or this guys are not gonna push each other

You ain't even lying. Teams threw at Blake like he had "SUCKER" written across his helmet. Sometimes it felt like they came in with the game plan "If Blake is lined up over you, run a 9 route and expect the ball". But Gay seemed to hold his own when thrown at. Perhaps that's just my perception because he got beat less. I'm not as down as others on Senquez as a starter, so I'm really hoping he competes hard in camp. Nothing would make me happier than to see a Senquez, Burns, Davis secondary with whomever wins the FS job. And I've said elsewhere, that if Grant was moved there he'd be special. Currently, he's still listed as a corner.

also what happens if ny CB suffers an injury like Golson last preseason? well there's no freaking depth and if that injured player happens to be Gay then there's not even one vet player in that group

We will sort through the scrap pile when this occurs.....until then it is "what you see is what we got".

On a side note I did hear Colbert say on the SN radio station a week or so ago that they would wait for cuts later on and wouldn't rule out bringing in a vet if they were a good fit.

what about leoN HALL

Wasn't he the host on "Lets make a Deal"........LOL

Bring em both in, as said, can't hurt and Gay isn't as good as once believed. He is better but a product to some degree, of BLAKE across from him. Can't hurt to look and yaz never know.

Salute the nation

so according to you it is better to look in the trash can late in pre-season than having insurance and bringing a vet to compete?
I disagree, worst case scenario is that Culliver or another vet is already in a steep decline and you release him in the final cut. Best case? you got another vet to help that has at least a pre-seaon with the team to start right away if needed

Im with ya on Golson. If the kid shows he can stick with his man and make plays, who the **** care about how tall he is. And I've always been a fan of big play will gay, but i really think we're gonna see some major regression from him this season. But going into the season with Burns, Golson, Davis and Grant makes me just a tad uneasy being thag Grant is the only one with any serious playing time. And even then it was very nominal. I mean I have faith and confidence in them to perform and get better as the season progresses but a solid veteran in the defensive backfield can only be beneficial.

The biggest thing that will help our secondary, is pressure. I hope JJ, Dupree, and Shazier improves and hope Hargrave is a good addition as well.

Grant has zero playing time. One defensive snap I believe.

Sheesh, that's even less than what I thought. I thought it was in the neighborhood of 5 or something. I guess Atleast he has stepped on the field lol
